Haven’t tried cooked food yet, only sushi. What we had was very good. Not a huge selection, but you have to remember they only serve substanable fish. Nonetheless very good, good atmosphere.

This place has the ambience I’ll give it that. And the service was good for how busy it was. And the entrees where great as well as the wine being reasonably priced. Now, that being said, sushi prices are outrageous for small rolls, that to be honest, aren’t really that tasty. Sushi from Harris Teeter is larger and tastes better than this. Entrees by all means please go here, but as far as sushi steer clear.

A great place for sushi in downtown Kinston. I recommend the surf and turf roll. There is a very cool sitting area in the sushi bar. I also had the BBQ shrimp and grits, it was a lot of runny grits with very few shrimp. However, now that I know to stick with the sushi, I will be back.

Atmosphere 5 stars, Food 5 stars, Service 4 stars. I would give it an overall 4.5 rating. We had the peach bacon crostini, the vegetable/squash flatbread and the seared chicken breasts with black eyed pea risotto. All were expertly conceived, perfectly executed and absolutely delicious. Minor criticism was that our inexperienced server although very nice did not check back with us in a timely manner which caused some lag time in our meal. We were there during a rather quiet time of evening.

Let me just start off by saying when we first arrived we were very excited to try this place because of the reviews on Unilocal.Sadly we cannot recommend people here just for the simple fact of poor customer service. I do not want to blame any particular persons because as a whole clearly there is an I in team. We were sat and everything went smooth we received out drinks and went ahead and ordered our sushi after the waitress politely explained our best options. I had a very messy date who is new to chop sticks and dropped his sushi and soy splattered everywhere. We then realized we had no napkins a waitress I assume she was walked past saw and they got us napkins while bringing out the main dish. She wiped it half way up and said I’ll be right back, we then realized we had NO Silverware so she waited on her«coming back» well we sat back in our big green chair drank our beer and waited. Not touching our food u would think all 4 people busy around us would take notice but NOPE nothing. 20 minutes goes by and we lay eyes on our waitress for the FIRST time. She said how is everything with a confused look I said we don’t know we have no thing to eat with. She then gets very apologetic says she will talk to the manager Tyler comes back and she let’s us know that since nothing was wrong with our food there would be no compensation for anything and we can box it up for u to take. DOWHAT! no compensation so I am spending 100 bucks for 2 ppl and you can’t compensate me 1.00 for my 20 minute inconvenience. Now that’s poor just rude and ignorant plus u couldn’t come over to kill me with kindness and explain that yourself. Very poor management and I hope the owner knows exactly how his business is being ran.

Expected to like Ginger 108 based on the menu, reviews, and relationship with Mother Earth — but it exceeded our expectations. My husband and I shared everything. Loved the beet salad(big enough for 2 to share), had 2 specialty sushi rolls(including one with yummy pepper jelly topping), and the highlight was a riff on spaghetti carbonara. It was perfectly cooked salmon over a bed of veggies and spiralized zucchini, plus a fried egg and crispy salmon skin. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

Went there last weekend and probably some of the best food I’ve eaten in a long time. I got the seared scallops over garlic squash while my wife go seared ahi tuna. The portions were generous. The highlight of our meal was our sushi. We shared a Surf and Turf that was probably the best roll I’ve ever eaten. We ate our meals and while my wife decided to get desert, I opted for another roll. This time I got the Ginger roll which had sea bass and collards with a sauce drizzled on top with pecans. I made a point to go back to the sushi chef(Joey) to complement him on some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, We will definitely be going back and I’ve recommended them to a few of my friends. BTW I never write reviews for places, which should say a lot about how much I loved this place.

Very trendy place to grab some Asian food. I decided to try the rice bowl with shrimp and I wasn’t let down. With it being the«small plate» side of the menu I wasn’t sure what to expect but the portion was perfect. The grilled shrimp was fresh and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp had what I would assume was Yum Yum sauce and it lived up to the name. I chose the brown rice with the shrimp and again… delicious. The rice had plenty of vegetables in it which added more flavor. While eating I also noticed how well the sushi looked and wished I would have tried it. I will be back again to try the sushi the next time. My only regret is… I didn’t take a picture to share. If you are looking for some upscale Asian food try it out. The price was what you would expect but if you want quality you should pay for it. For the food selection I thought it was a good experience.

Terrific. The sauce on the gwoyza was phenomenal, the pork belly and the sweet potato waffle with bacon ice cream was unlike any other dessert I’ve ever tried. Also strongly recommend the pork belly, it was comfort food done right. However, what really made the experience special was our bartender, Joesph. Joesph is actually Ginger’s new sushi chef who is moonlighting as the bartender in the interim. His knowledge of the menu and warm demanor truly made the meal for my wife and I. We can’t wait for the grand opening of the sushi bar. Kinston has quickly become a hotbed for fine dinning and drink, but if you haven’t already tried Ginger 108 then you’re missing out on the full expereince. The chef has outdone herself here. Must try for any Kinston visitor.

Duck: They serve this underdone which is typical but the problem was that the waitress never ask me how I would like it(for poultry I prefer well done for safe consumption). The flavor is not very Asian, lacks some sweetness to it. Also, the skin is not crisp, a mortal sin for duck. Furthermore the sides compete with the star(or lack of it) of the show. The presentation was excellent, however. Coconut curry crab cakes: A lot of lump crab meat. If not for the sauce, it tastes mighty ordinary. Quinoa was bland but the asparagus was very good. Again, presentation was excellent. Triple chocolate cheesecake: Everything’s too sweet from the cheesecake to the white chocolate ganash. This dessert is meant to be shared. Baked apples: The best dessert in the menu. Ice cream is served over a whole baked(or poached?) apples on a bed of ginger snaps(?) crumble and pieces of candied pecans. I haven’t quite explored the rest of the menu to really say if I like this place. The warm ambience and the excellent presentation of their food deserves a second chance though.

In town for work and we decided to give this place a try. We were in an eight person group and ordered five different dishes from here. Everything was fantastic! I personally had the scallops, and I am pretty sure these are my favorite scallops of all time(and I live at the beach). I just wish I had more opportunities to come back!

Cute little restaurant. Great atmosphere… loved that they had complimentary edamame when you sit down. The noodle bowl was excellent and the baked apples for dessert were to-die-for!!!

Caveat: only been here once. The appetizer we got was good(chicken lettuce cups). Spicy duck sauce on the side was good, while the filling was decent/bland. For entrees, I had the rice bowl and my girlfriend had the noodle bowl. Both were reminiscent of airport take-out. Very edible, but not worth the price or the fanfare. I think they’re trying to do interesting things(the rice bowl had a smokey chipolte mayo topping, which was the best thing about it). Maybe if I ordered the scallops they would have been great, but I was disappointed that the basic entrees were so blah. I might go back.

One of the best Asian fusion restaurants!!! The service and food were superb. I was visiting the area from Washington, DC and found this gem of a restaurant. If you are in Kinston, you MUST visit this place.

We have been there a few time, but this past Friday night we went and was very disappointed. Food: Tasty as ever… When we got in(6 of us), there were several open tables– not that busy. We ordered, noting some changes in the menu. We waited over 30 minutes for our starters, and well over an hour total for hour for our entrée– and that was only after getting who we guess was a manager involved(she never introduced herself.) When our food arrived several dishes were not correct– and those at the table had to wait another 15 minutes for corrected items. Staff: Our waitress was less than concerned until we asked for a manager. She was all apologies at the end, but did not check on us often. A very nice young man who we guess was assistant waiter– filled our drinks and checked on our food. They cut our bill in ½ but it was more about disappointing an evening which otherwise should have been a great night and what in the past had been a great place to eat and enjoy the nice environment. The«excuses» was a new chef, and that each noodle dish had to be made 1 at a time? but is there only one stove? It is a noodle bowl… it should not take too long at all. I get that good food takes time, but this was crazy. A new chef does not account for wait staff that did not check in on us, the manager who was all apologies but still took forever to get the missing/wrong items made… or follow up with us on their way out. A younger gentleman asked how our meal was on our way out, and I guess was another manager/owner or such– I shared my concerns and give him my card and never heard back. It might be a while before we visit again.

From the atmosphere, to the servers, to everything on the menu, it’s all very good. We go to Ginger 108 every week and it’s always just as good as every other time we go. The quality of their tuna is very good. Our favorite shared plate is the Tuna Tare-Tare as well as the shrimp sliders. Their large plates are also very good such as the bone in ribeye, blackened fish tacos, pork belly, the noodle bowls, and their grilled tuna.
