This is the most memorable place to stay on our first time in Maui. Who: Its owned by a friendly laid back Mother and Daughter. What: its a huge room/house/wing devoted to a comfortable king bed with wall to wall windows on 2 sides of the wall. There is also a large shower for two and lastly, a sweet little solar powered stove with 2 burners and small refrigerator. Where: Its 10 miles past Hana town. Remote and peaceful and wander the grounds swing on the swing, take a dip in the outdoor tub. You can stay in bed and watch the sunrise and or set. When: We went in August and it rained every day(we just happened to be there in a big storm) but you can sit outside and eat your meal and not get a drop on you. How: To make the most of your time at the Hana Bed & breakfast bring dinner(s). Once you get to there its a long 10 mile drive back to the town — seriously it will take you 30 – 45 min. Why Go: Literally if you get up early you will be the first on the trail at ‘Ohe’o Gulch aka«Seven Sacred Pools» or to the Bamboo Forest which is on the way to the 400-foot Waimoku Falls! Plus, again the room is a honeymoon-like retreat! We went on from here to the west side of the island and stayed at a fancy resort. But this place to stay is our best memory of Maui!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights during our Honeymoon. It was the first time either of us had ever been to Hawaii and we planned a lot of places to stay. This was, by far, our favorite. Located away from it all on the South Shore of Maui this Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay after driving the Road to Hana. It is just a few miles from the Seven Sacred Pools and Haleakala National Park. The room is very clean and features a gorgeous bathroom with a giant shower. There are plenty of extra blankets, towels, books, guides, beach equipment, and bottles of water. There is a deck off of the room with chairs and a small kitchen. It was lovely being able to cook and eat under so many bright stars. Sam and her daughter Mercury are both very kind, hospitable, and offer excellent advice on things to do and routes to take driving. Mercury sells jewelry, so be sure to bring some cash with you. I purchased a gorgeous necklace for my mother in law from her. All in all this was definitely our favorite place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Hawaii. We look forward to returning one day.

Stayed here in 08 with my wife for 2 nights. Total relaxation! Peaceful! Quiet! We ended our 7 nights on Maui with here, and after all the hectic-ness and stress of the«tourist» side of the island, it was exactly what we were looking for. Only a mile from the horsebackriding place, about a mile or two from the Oheo Gulch, and close to Lindbergh’s grave. The accomodations were nice, the grounds were immaculate, and our host was very accomodating. Peace and relaxation. But it is about a half mile to the closest beach. A very pleasant memory.

My partner and I just returned from two wonderful nights spent at the Ala’aina and couldn’t be happier. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and unique place to stay, with ocean and sunset views, this is the place for you. Sam and Mercury could not have been more welcoming or gracious — we were delighted to find starfruit, papaya, avocado and lilikoi in baskets from the yard. While somewhat of a drive from Hana town(especially at night), it is the perfect location to explore the bamboo forest, seven sacred pools, and all the adventure the surrounding areas had to offer. Sam was wonderful to provide a list of recommended sights in the area to check out, they were all wonderful. We drove the Hana highway in, happy to have left Pa’ai in the afternoon as to avoid most of the traffic. We took the other way home, which was so different but beautiful and an opportunity to explore different geography of the island. As with nearly anywhere you stay in Hana, you need to come prepared with food if you are not planning on going to one of the very few restaurants in town. The one grocery store has VERYFEW options so I’d suggest picking up some fresh fish or something to grill, a bbq and outdoor kitchenette are provided. If you are the type of traveler who enjoys hanging out at a resort with people serving you drinks, this might not be the place for you. If you are looking for a magical taste of real Hawaii, with waterfalls, fresh fruit, lush landscape and caring hosts, this is the place for you. We also loved the king size BED(not futon, mr crankypants) surrounded by the views, my only suggestion would be investing in some top quality bed linens… although maybe then no one would ever leave.
