Clear wire is is so bad at service because they manipulate you to be the next Gen of Internet provider yet they can’t even handle 1080p streaming. Horrible company

This Internet service is so bad, and I would give it zero stars if I could. They have too many customers with not enough power, and they will not refund any money. I am paying almost $ 60 for terrible service.

I’ve been with Clearwire since 2008 and am finally done with all their cheating, lying, bait and switch, etc. I’m embarrassed it took me so long to switch, but I want to be certain others don’t make the same mistake. Their service is mediocre at best and they freely deduct whatever amount they chose from your account. «your previous rate was a promotion.» is my favorite. They are a double 00 star company and should be investigated by the FCC.

I had Clearwire for years, and I was pretty happy with it, however I made a change this past June for faster Internet bundled with my cable. I called June 2^nd & told them I wanted to cancel, at that time I thought everything was taken care of, fast forward to today when I looked at my bank statement & realized they had still been charging me for the last 4 months! I placed a call, was put on hold for a VERY long time & being shuffled to 3 different people when I finally got to speak to a manager, who informed me that they could not refund all 4 months because they had a 30 day policy of some sort. .he did refund me two months, but basically I am stuck paying for two months of service I DID NOT USE. Yes, I should have noticed the charges sooner, but I was foolish enough to believe that when I said cancel my service 4 months ago, they would actually do it… I will not be recommending this service to anyone in the future, which I would have before!

I’d give a zero star if possible. How does this company stay in business? It seriously feels as if they are stealing money from me. I pay around $ 60 a month. Yea it’s my bad for putting of with their crap but I keep think its something wrong with the modem, the router my computer etc. I’m the stupid one I guess. Their call center is in the Philippines and as the reps are nice they just read and repeat what is on their screen. If I was a rich man I’d sue them for years of non service. Help me god. I’ve officially shamed myself for admitting the above.

I’ve tried Clearwire and I’ve tried Clear. Notice I said tried, I’ve never subscribed to their service – but from what I’ve experienced, it’s improved a lot over the years. Customer support is AWESOME to a point that I’ve never had such great customer service except at Media Temple (totally different industries, I know, but I can’t find any good customer service with other ISP’s to compare Clear with). Setup is extremely easy, you go to the store, buy the device, go home, hook it up, and you’re pretty much online. Their Internet speed is good enough for those who watches Youtube, use FB, surf the web, check email, play web games, and etc. The reason why I didn’t go on and use it because I do web design and I upload things, and their upload speed is very slow. I requested them to email me when they have higher upload speed, I’m looking forward to switch from my Comcast service (poor customer service, next to no support, long wait time to have anyone fix anything, incorrect billings, tedious dispute process, poor everything except for upload speed).

The internet service that I got from Clearwire was so useless that I had to subscribe to a different internet provider. Due to a contract (which an unethical salesman allowed me to sign at the age of 17, and considered legally binding, which, it should not have been) I continued paying for the service for a full year before they allowed me to cancel.
Just this morning I got an email about a class action lawsuit against Clearwire. If you’ve also been ripped off by them with lying sales associates and awful internet, check your email for the claim form.
A note, the fact that the salesman lied is accurate. I asked a lot of questions to make sure that I understood the terms. They made it sounds like it would be easy and straightforward to cancel the service, which, it *was* if I wanted to pay several hundred dollars.

I’ve had this service for the past two years and I was always having to reset my modem. I had the fastest service they offered and it was still S L O W… I cancelled today! Yaay no more $ 50.00 a month for NOTHING. Their customer service stinks, they «tried» to keep me as a customer by «trouble shooting» the problem, but since I already have a service, I told them NO, that I just wanted to cancel, they kept fighting me, so finally I yelled at the lady, and said NO I WANT TO CANCEL!
Note to Clearwire: Hire folks that understand English… We all know they are reading from a script and have an answer for every scenario that comes up, it’s infuriating! This is the one time I am looking forward to Comcast Service…

Clearwire has poor customer service/​tech support and the 3G/​4G hub Internet equipment can fail at times, requiring you to power cycle the equipment. Unfortunately, some models do not power cycle easily.
The 4G speed is great when it works. But the level of customer service and equipment problems may not be worth the headaches or monthly fee.
When I originally sign-​up for Clearwire, I was being double billed. Despite repeated calls to customer service, the problem was not resolved. Customer service for Clearwire is through a contractor. And the contractor has numerous complaints as I was told by Clearwire Corporate. I question is why do they continue their service? I had to file a BBB complaint to get corporate to eventually correct the billing and address the customer service issues. During conversations with corporate, I was made aware the 3G/​4G device I had was obsoleted. It was not clear why. But I have had heating problems and resetting problems with the device. I keep it fan cooled to avoid the heating. However, the resetting has continued. The device will lockup.
I have spoke with tech support a few times since the BBB complaint but experienced the same rude telephone conversations, dropped calls, and folks failing to identify themselves sufficiently so future escalations can follow-​up with them. So if quality of customer service and tech support is important to you, STAY CLEAR OF CLEARWIRE. No wonder Sprint no longer wanted to be associated with them.
Today, I encountered the worst experience to date. The 3G/​4G hub was not routing. And the device was not resetting. Since I paid an additional fee per month for replacement equipment, I again called tech support. The tech support person did not document my issue and said a supervisor would call me back. A supervisor never called. I called Clearwire corporate and got even worse service. The receptionist acted as though she did not want to be there. She was making noises into the phone so loud it was disrupting the call. She would not direct me to any department and instead said she only has a person directory. When I started to read the name of the person listed on their website, the head of customer service, she said I cannot direct you to any person in management. I asked for her name but she put me on hold. She came back and asked for my number and account information but would not tell me who I was being directed to, just «the person that handles Better Business Bureau complaints». I waited to be transferred but no one ever picked up. And no one has called me.
Basically, no on Clearwire. There is a reason Sprint went in another direction.

I signed up for Clear after hearing some good things from a neighbor (who I found out heard the good things from a friend of his). I called the account setup line with some questions (I have a background in computers and wanted to know some technical details before signing up)… what I got was a high-​pressure sale from someone with little to no technical knowledge, so I hung up. I called back hoping to get someone else, which I did, who turned out to be a nice young man who lied to me about the speed, non-​sale price and contract (the last two by omission). Why I signed up, I’m still not sure, but I did.
I was promised 12+Mbps down and 1+ up. The ‘+’ is important here… I was guaranteed ’12+’, not ‘up to 12 under ideal circumstances’. What I get is anywhere from 0 to 11Mbps, depending on the time of day.
I regularly call Clear’s customer service and request a reset and a refund for the lack of service (¹⁄₃₀^th of my bill) They did this no problem (after a 30 minute call) the first couple times, then they started arguing about terms of service before refunding the $ 1.67 (that’s all I ask for each time I have to stop what I’m doing and spend a ½ hour asking to actually receive what I’m paying for). Now they’ve moved on to denying the refund unless service has been out for 24 or more consecutive hours. I don’t know about you, but I generally only use my connection for a few hours a day (if that) and if dinner and a movie turns into dinner and a… loading… bar, my internet enjoyment for the night is pretty much ruined.

Management: don’t care, under contract, read the terms
Conclusion: Your service is bad and you should feel bad.

Last year I signed up with clear using my student account. No contract.
I couldnt get service in my apartment so they send me the wirless modem adapter. It stopped working and they wanted to charge me $ 80 to replace it. I politely told them to kiss my backside, and told them to cancel the service. My online account was closed so I figured they canceled it.
Five months later I had $ 171.61 missing from my daughters bank account. The had been charging her account every month after I cancelled, because I paid my last bill using her card.
I contacted Clear and they insisted that the account was never canceled, even though there had clearly been no usage for 5 months and they still have not refunded my money, so I’ve filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
****WHAT THIS COMPANY IS DOING IS ILLEGAL. IT IS NO DIFFERENT FROM CREDIT CARD FRAUD AND IS A FEDERAL CRIME.
YOU CAN REPORT IT TO THE BBB AND ALSO THE FBI.

Clearwire works awesome for my needs.
I will agree that it’s often a crapshoot — and that can be very frustrating. Here’s how I use it and why I like it so much:
I service people at their homes and businesses all over Western WA. These days, my «computers» are all iOS devices. For $ 25/​mo (permanently) I have an iSpot with unlimited data that works in 95% of the places I’m at with speeds between 3−10Mbps down.
Previously I’ve had the Verizon, Sprint, and Tmobile versions. The Verizon and Sprint were only as fast (and ofter slower) but $ 70+/mo and the Tmobile one was faster, but I always went up to their data ceiling and then it got s l o w for $ 50/​mo.
My savings are huge (because I don’t need a data plan on my iPhone either!) and I can stream music or TV all day while I’m working with no worries at all.

Clear Wire internet (ISP) total scam, fraud. I am very disappointed.
Everything started me going to a mall (Westfield Covina, CA) and approach Clear small kiosk by mid October 2011. They offered me:
30 days money back guarantee (in case I didn’t like the service)
Free lease for each of the devices (home and the mobile — Apollo)
No contracts.
The sales rep named Louie told me on October (he was pushing and pushing me and even told me to please buy because he needs to proof he’s doing a good job blah blah blah) to buy now and come back on November 1^st, 2011 because Clear is going to change sales programs/​offers on November that he couldn’t waive the lease of the modems at that specific moment. Also, he offered me that on November 1^st I would be able to get a refund of the lease of the modems and a refund of shipping that I paid at front. That day I paid $ 86.02 including the 2 services, shipping, and lease of each modem. November 1^st, 2011 came. Now check this out. I went to the same place:
Louie was no longer working there.
30 days full refund — Bullshit! They will prorate.
Free lease of the modems — Bullshit! They can’t do it unless I buy them. How much? Over $ 100.00 ea again, bullshit!
Called Clear customer service and they couldn’t keep me as a new customer they didn’t offer something. Just apologies. I said CANCEL. They will be mailing the UPS label thru USPS but they emailed me 2 days after talking to customer service. Since they are pro-​rating I think those two days that I was waiting for the labels will not be discounted. Why waiting 2 days to email a label? THIEVES!
YOU — STAY AWAY!

My first review was on 5÷26÷2010, and today is is 9÷10÷2011. At one point about a year and a half back, Clear (wire) offered me a $ 22.00/month FOR LIFE option, which was if I stayed with CLEAR, they would keep my monthly fee at $ 22.00 FOR LIFE, plus the $ 5.00/month modem rental fee. Sweet! Of coarse I accepted immediately. Well about two/​three months ago, say March/​April of 2011 CLEAR sends me a snail mail letter telling me that my monthly fee was going UP to appx. $ 42.00/month, plus the $ 5.00 modem rental fee. So call AND email in an attempt to find out what this $ 22.00 FOR LIFE promise they gave me in writing went to, but nobody knows anything.
CLEAR «says» they’ve improved my service, that it’s faster than ever now, but I’m here to tell the world that is not true. Plus the times I’ve had this thing freeze up has greatly increased, and usually I have to unplug the modem for five mins or so, plug it back into the wall ele. supply, and let it boot up. But as usual, when that happens it’s when I am attempting to stream a movie from NetFlix you know.
I still like CLEAR, but not so nearly as much as in the past. Oh well. If this is the worst thing to happen to me then I guess I am a very lucky person.

For those of you who have not followed recent news about Clear Wireless, but Craig McCaw (founder) recently left the company.
Additionally the company is running out of cash (estimate between March & May 2011) unless they are able to secure additional funding.
Apparently to meet this need the company has or will be issuing some corporate bonds or other forms of debt … but this appears to be the only way that their investors (Sprint, Comcast, Intel & others) will consider providing any further funding.
Since they are reducing staff further, the company will likely rely on additional low cost (quality) subcontractors much as they have to date such as their field technicians.
Clearly the end is in sight for Clear … especially since Sprint (majority owner of Clear) is planning to switch to LTE which was recently brought out by Verizon and soon to be followed by AT&T.
Even if the cost is higher with similar bandwidth that is offered by Clear, LTE has a distinct advantage of not only being upgradable in the future but since it uses a lower frequency (700 MHz) than Clear’s WiMax (2.4 GHz), it offers better coverage and penetration into buildings and around obstructions.

If you are thinking of order a wireless ISP service or have no choice because of the lack of DSL or Cable (Comcast sucks just as bad as Clearwire), give Verizon Wireless some strong consideration with their LTE Fusion service. Yes it is more expensive and is a metered usage service, but you get what you pay for. I use LTE with Big Red and love it, very reliable and FAST.

I spoke to the lame Clearwire customer service again today because those crooks still didn’t refund my money AND WERE CONTINUING TO BILL ME! I cancelled at the end of October and they received the equipment at the beginning of November. I even called to «remind» them to give my back my goddam money on Nov 15. Now they said they’d refund within 24 hours. What jackasses!
PLEASE buy your internet elsewhere!!!

The idea of mobile internet was very tempting so I went for it and signed up for Clearwire 4G internet. The service was poor from the start, but is was fast enough at the time and I really enjoy new technology. In addition, I really love to support local business and I don’t discriminate against Seattle moguls such as Craig McCaw. It’s frustrating to hear people bash those who’ve worked hard to bring their business from local to regional, to national, and for several Seattle based companies international. As a small business owner I hope to be so fortunate, but I digress.
Clear (formerly Clearwire) internet is unreliable and slow. Their speeds haven’t increased significantly to keep up with the competition, and their prices are just as high. The customer service is always trying to sell you something and is unhelpful at best. One memorable call to voice my concern about the poor service ended with such a hard sell that the service rep completely forgot why I called in the first place!
As I type the Comcast guy is outside hooking up my new service, oh happy day. Bottom line — the service is slow and doesn’t work in the rain. Yes, you read correctly, I live in Seattle and my internet doesn’t work in the rain.

More like Foggywire. Just thinking about this sorry excuse for a service makes me want to go do something angry and tough like kick over a garbage can and scream in a child’s face.
Thinking about going with Clearwire? Here’s what you can expect:
— Maddeningly slow Internet service. That is, if you’re able to connect at all. It’s a crap shoot.
— Zero technical assistance. Why isn’t your Internet working when you’re plugged into the modem and have three green bars indicating a signal? They don’t know. They’ll recommend some highly effective technical strategies, like: unplug from the modem, then plug back in, then turn your modem so it’s facing southeast — no, make that northwest — then sprinkle your modem with unicorn droppings and chant really loudly for three minutes, then unplug, then replug. Still not working? Oh. Maybe there was an outage somewhere.
— Automatic withdrawals from your account after you’ve canceled your service. When you call to complain and get a refund, they’ll tell you that they’re working on it, but can’t guarantee a refund. Why? Uh, they’re not sure, but they thank you for choosing Clearwire and hope you have a great day.

I wish I could give it 0 stars. Clearwire is a TOTAL scam.
First of all, clearwire is VERY slow, I live in a high rise in downtown Seattle and put the modem in my window 100 ft off the ground (should be one of the best places for reception). I did a speed test and my uplink was slower than dialup and downloads were in the 100 kpbs range, again very slow as compared to 1 mbits from comcast. The modem didn’t even connect half the time either, so it’s super slow and unreliable.
Here is the kicker: Clear states that you can return the hardware if you aren’t happy within 7 days (not a very long period as compared to 30 days of normal services), but the 7 days starts WHEN YOU BUY ONLINE, not when the modem arrives. I ordered on a Friday and the hardware arrived the next tue. I called to cancel the useless service the following Monday (6 days after I got the hardware) and they said that I have to pay an early termination fee of $ 120, b/​c my 7 day trial is up. FUCKING RIDICULOUS. I actually had a 3 day trial period from the day I got the hardware and they never told me that.
Apparently there is a class action suit about this:

I extremely hate clearwire, my brother only got it because he wanted instant service. I don’t understand why their service keeps on losing it’s connection, we don’t pay about $ 400 for a year just to receive shitty ass service. Not to mention, I would’ve gotten better service with QWEST, probably even dial-​up, okay not really, but you get the point. I seriously can’t wait until my contract is over.
