Embody Health

Found this gem on Groupon, for a pretty sweet price. Had my first session yesterday, and holy cow did it kick my butt! Having done the INSANITY workouts and previous circuit training, I thought this would be cake. But I quickly realized how out of shape I was! Josh, was very nice and knowledgable! Actually, all the staff there is. I was struggling with feeling light headed, and Lisa was very understanding and helpful.
This workout is set for your own pace. As there is a wide range of people and their fitness levels. Form over reps. The people in the class are super helpful too! It is a great team atmosphere. Once my Groupon runs out, I will continue with a membership. 30 minutes is nothing time wise, but when you leave you definitely feel the burn!
If you’re hesitant, try just one class. It’s going to be hard, and you’re going to have to push yourself. But it’s WORTH IT!

What you get when you join: high energy workouts, post-​workout socialization, «How was your day?», health and nutrition tips via email, goal-​setting and the equally important goal-​achieving celebrations. I have been nothing short of impressed and thankful for Josh and his carefully selected trainers at Embody Health! I have been attending their boot camp style classes (don’t be intimidated by the words boot camp, I promise it isn’t the military. I’ve been in the military) for almost a year now and truly couldn’t ask for anything more in terms of a high energy but low impact workouts (it’s easy on the joints), professional, extremely supportive trainers and an owner that knows what he’s doing and cares most that you are happy and get what you need out of his programs. The service I’ve received there is exemplary and I can’t say enough how much I appreciate the short 30 min sessions that get me in and out, but also give me a strong, satisfying workout. I love the Trainers there and their support, encouragement, and interest in ensuring an injury free experience for all customers. It truly doesn’t matter what sort of shapes you are currently in or whether you’re an athlete or you’ve ever exercised a day in your life, all are welcome and not judged in the least bit. Rates are very reasonable considering the attention and expertise you get there. Thank you, Josh and Team!

I’ve been going to Embody Health for years now and give Josh and the team the highest recommendation. The best part about Embody is the diversity of the folks attending Boot Camps. It doesn’t matter if you’re a marathon runner or haven’t exercised in years, the workouts, although structured, are fully customizable and each trainer will help you make adjustments for what works best for YOU — not someone else. The morning classes fill up quickly, so my recommendation is to get on the schedule the week before, and ideally set up a recurring appointment (it helps to hold yourself accountable as well!).
If you can get into classes with Lisa, do it. She is the best. She is an incredible motivator and always makes classes fun.
Also, take advantage of the meal planning. Josh (the owner) is more than willing to sit down with anyone and talk through things to get you on track. This is something I wish I would have taken more advantage of!

Excellent facility to train. The staff is very knowledgable and professional. Workouts are challenging but well thought out. Wish there were more gyms like this.

Just wow.
I went to the third class of the day today and I was pleasantly surprised to find that even though it was raining outside, and many people had come before me, the mats were much cleaner than normal! Given that everyone would obviously be scampering (or trudging) in mud and dirt from outside because of the weather, I would say the mats were darned near sparkling. It appears that the type of mat that is used (which has great traction for jumping, etc), would naturally retain more dirt than other mats, so I decided I would update my review anyway before seeing this change… BUT, then I went to class and found that the owner took action! After seeing the cleaner mats, I was actually excited to update my review as soon as I got home!
Then I realized that Josh took action beyond the mats:
As class was coming to a close, I went to wipe down my mat and saw that the spray-​cleaner bottle and «sump towel» had disappeared! In its place were individual anti-​bacterial wipes! Much cleaner.
I also have to give a shout-​out to the instructor, Lisa. She always leads a high-​energy class with a smile and the utmost enthusiasm. Today, she had a full class and the added challenge of someone’s shoulder being uncooperative in the middle of our workout. She tended to the person with great care, whilst still running the class! She didn’t miss a beat!
Again. Impressive. Five stars now. Absolutely.

I went to my first Boot-​camp class and was pleasantly surprised. It was intense and interesting. I do look forward to going weekly. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are refreshing. The subtlety of the space is deceiving at first glance. The TRX is a versatile and thorough workout.

I’ve been working out at embody for over two months now and have seen a genuine transformation — not only in appearance but overall health. Josh’s small group/​semi-​private workouts are intense, 30 minutes of kicking butt work outs. Even modifications (for injuries) are tough. It really is a great, sweaty work out. I’ve gotten more out of those 30 minutes than I did in an hour with my gym trainer. Lots of variety, circuit training — and it’s for guys and girls — it’s great not feeling like i’m constantly in a girls-​only workout environment with pink weights.
Like I said, he goes beyond the idea of all you need is a workout — he takes care of nutrition too. I was very skeptical, since I’ve known a LOT of trainers who think they know nutrition (but only know how to cut carbs and eat protein). Josh sets up meetings with you to talk about any nutritional downfalls you might be dealing with and then gives great advice and practical solutions.
The only, seriously only, con of embody is the limited times that he holds workouts. But I’m positive this will change as more people join and request more time slots. Now, go work out! He offers a great two week intro discount!

When my first-​born turned one, I had already resigned myself to my post-​pregnancy body (really, what I’m talkin’ about was my flabby belly, the «mother’s apron»). However, after only two weeks of routine fitness/​bootcamp classes with Josh (I was going three times a week) and eating right (under Josh’s guidance), I started noticing a change around my waist. (not monumental, but significant enough for me and my hubby to notice!). Things were definitely lifting! With this incentive, I stuck to working out consistently with Josh and eating right — and I finally felt like I had my old body back after about three months. In addition to that, I was sick less often, and had TONS of energy (which every mom of a toddler needs).
As for Josh’s training style — he definitely pushes you, but respects that you know your body best (ie. if you need rest, do so, but get back up again after that sip of water!). His nutrition plan is plain and simple, and he works with you to suggest better alternatives, super foods and easy ways to add them to your diet. No crazy diets, just a sensible one :)
All in all, a great experience — in my second pregancy now, so takin’ it easy, but I can’t wait to go back once I can exercise again to get rid of my next «mother’s apron» :)
