What a fabulous book store! If you want to shop for the best in books, CDs, videos, and more, while also helping promote worthwhile local and national authors, and artists, this is your place. In this era of mega-retailers closing down local stores, here is one independent bookstore staffed by gracious, well-educated, literate ladies and guys who know their stuff and can advise you on best selections for yourself, your family and friends. These dedicated, hardworking staffers will order used and hard to find titles for you and will help you get a Book Club off the ground. Plus, it’s really a fun place to browse. On special occasions, these booksellers host parties and book events for authors and talented people from the Seattle community. They’ve brought in many local musicians and bands whom you might not otherwise hear, everything from a little jazz duo to a young solo pianist. Really more of an ‘institution’ and meeting place than a store– Support Parkplace Books.(I no longer shop Amazon and only support stores like this. I’d rather put my dollars in the pockets of real people than corporate CEOs). And Parkplace Books is one of the best! Wish they had an outlet at the Juanita Village district too.

Great local bookshop. Their annual kirkland reads program is fantastic. This year they brought in Tim Eagan who gave a tremendous talk. It is the perfect spot to buy a book before your movie starts. Their book club section always has a great selection.

This is an amazing interdependent book store and its owners, Rebecca and Mary, are really top notch people, both of whom have spent decades dedicated to the community in Kirkland and environs. No, it is not a mega-retailer and they do not have every title ever printed, but they do have a great selection, including used and out-of-print books, and will happily order whatever you want if it is not something they stock. They also offer an unbeatable selection of Kirkland-area and other local authors and host many fun events featuring them. I find it difficult to walk out of their store without my arm full of new purchases!

I wish this bookstore was located near me. In earlier days maybe this would get 4 stars but it is refreshing to find a good independent bookstore. The literature/fiction selection section was large and I over heard some excellent help being given to another customer concerning children’s poetry. I also was offered help. Unfortunately even with relative’s in Kirkland I come this way rarely.

Small selection of books and service has never been friendly. Every time I walk in I’m never greeted with a smile and when I’ve asked a question for help I’ve always received a cold shoulder as if I’m bothering the staff.

I like bookstores and I always try to support local independent bookstores. I really like they have the bookclub section and the staff recommended section. I was able to find a couple of really cool books that I may have not considered if not for those sections. I think if this bookstore is located at a more prominate spot in Kirkland(such as Juanita Village or even Central Way, Kirkland Ave), they might have more customers and then be able to have more staff(which will probably provide more prompt service that people want). I think that is somewhat a supply v.s. demend thing… I think if more people support it and buy their books from the store, it will get better in both the supply of books & the service. In any case, I was happy to find a local bookstore in Kirkland and I’ll definitely go back.

I really really want to love Parkplace Books. It’s my local independent bookstore, and I’d like to give them my money. Unfortunately, I’ve never walked in with something particular in mind and been able to find it. If I’m just on a wander, I may be able to find something. It’s a very roomy space, but it doesn’t seem like they have that many books there for a bookstore. Another gripe. I asked them to order a book for me, and they told me that it would be in in a day or two, and that was more than two weeks ago and I’ve never heard from them. I finally had to buy it elsewhere.

This is a nice book store; I always like to browse around before catching a movie or what not. They always have a good supply of interesting books and their children section is small but good. Though, I find that I am mostly ignored when I go in there. I have waited up to 5 minutes for one of the people from behind the counter to actually get behind the counter. This seems like a constant occurrence when I go into this book store.

Their support for bookclubs is amazing! They will show you how to start one, order in your books, and put them on display. If you are even near there, check out the bookclub section. I find the best books are often picked by these groups. The kids section is sparse, but I like the fact it isn’t full of comic books and ‘cotton candy’ type reading for youngsters. It’s organized very well and the gift section has some interesting stuff. I shop here because I need them to stick around for my convienience, even though I am often tempted to order online.

Supporting independent booksellers is what my dollars are all about. Tucked into a corner near the cinema at Kirkland Parkplace, this bookstore lets you wile away the time before your movie starts. The bright lights lets me see the titles(very important as these days the bulbs seem dimmer and the print smaller) and is a sharp contrast to the often overcast sky outside. Grab a cup of java and sit near the fountain on the patio outside and read the newly bought best seller.
