Scotts LawnService

On my second year with Scott’s, my review is mixed. They are responsible, come when they say they will come, apply product appropriate for the season. I do the upkeep, they do the feeding. Their auto-​pay system has been trouble free. I know the lawn will always look decent, which matches their pricing: decent. Their web-​based approach to customer service kind of works, but you will no doubt feel like a number, disconnected from easy communication access.
This makes Scott’s a good option for a lot of folks like me. However, I work for a high-​end residential landscaping company, and the service provided by Scott’s wouldn’t last a week with our clients. Scott’s is a cookie-​cutter provider, applying to your lawn what the majority of lawns need. They will acknowledge problems (like crabgrass) on their visit summary sheets, but do nothing to treat them. Every lawn is a unique entity, and the service provided by Scotts provides the basic food to keep that entity generally healthy.
Since I could never afford the elite service provided by the landscaping company I work for, Scott’s cookie cutter basics are fine. If I want an elite lawn, I’ll have to come up with some elite money (or sweat equity) to get there. «You get what you pay for» rings true here.
Give them a «C+». They are a solid okay.

In the spring we had a lush, thick, dark green velvety lawn. We thought it would be nice to keep it that way. Went through Scotts lawnservice for this. By the end of the summer, the lawn was splotchy, multicolored, and sprouting lime green crabgrass all over. The lawn that we spent thousands of dollars landscaping is now an ugly mess. We called Scotts and they sent someone out to speak to us. He blamed it on us, saying we didn’t use their aeration treatment. In four years, we never had a problem, until we started the Scotts «treatment». Of course he offered to fix it, for a price.
Scotts ruined our lawn and we are going to have to spend countless hours and dollars trying to fix it. I DO NOT recommend their service. I’m not saying they deliberately ruined the lawn to try and get more money out of us. I am saying the lawn was beautiful and lush. Now it’s a patchy mess being overrun by crabgrass they offered to «fix» for a price.

What prompted this review was looking out the window and thinking — I have so much grass!
I started using Scotts about 3 years ago. I have a small Seattle front yard that consisted of dandelions, moss and bare spots. It was a disgrace and I tried to fix it. I couldn’t and got an estimate for a new sod lawn and crazy expensive!
The Scotts guy doesn’t come every month (too bad — he’s a sweetie) and it took maybe a year to go from what I had to what is there now. Even part of my neighbor’s yard is prettier!
If you have patience to repair grass to turn whatever expanse you may have into lushness, let Scotts do it. I know grass is out of favor … I don’t water it in the summer and it doesn’t need it unless you want green.
