This B & B opened last year in Kittery, located off of Rt. 1. The outlet malls and the ocean are a few minutes away in either direction. It’s well situated for a quick getaway from the Boston area, or for the first leg of a longer trip. It’s also a quick trip South into Portsmouth or North along the coast to the Yorks and Ogunquit. It’s a Mom and Pop(or grandmom and grandpop) operation. They have four rooms — two share a bath, two have a private bathroom with shower. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, but have no TV, radio, or telephone. They do, however, have wifi. Downstairs has a dining room and a living room for the use of guests. The living room has a large TV and a refrigerator stocked with beer, wine and soda. Snacks and a full breakfast are provided. They also have a heated pool. We just had our second stay there. What makes the place special is the owners. They strike a very nice balance between being attentive and letting you have your space. They really do want to help you have a good time. They’ve helped us with lots of advice on reservations for restaurants in Portsmouth, produced a coupon they clipped for another restaurant we decided to go to and provided very good information about all kinds of things in the area. Rates are quite reasonable 75⁄95(shared bath/private) for the rooms until Memorial Day — twenty dollars more in high season. The only criticism I’ve had in two visits is that they keep their red wine in the fridge. Edit 12⁄07: Rates are up to 105/night out of season, but still a nice place and pretty easy to get a room in the off season.
