It’s a shame this is not the original Dicks Hickory Dock. The new owner did a lot of renovation, put in an awesome little bar(then promptly fired his bar staff) and decided that plastic was the way to go. Gone are the awesome ribs, giant baked potatoes smothered in sour cream, chives, etc. Now it’s only open 2 ½ months in the summer with very limited hours. Don’t waste your time. This place has been sold again and it’s not certain what name they will open up under. They seem to be doing a complete remodel, so once they open again let’s hope for the best.

My friend and I decided to drive to Evergreen to eat dinner. On our drive up we passed this place and made a mental note to check it out if there wasn’t anything exciting in Evergreen. There wasn’t so we turned around and went to this BBQ spot in Kittredge. The patio is spectacular and overlooks a creek. There is a fire pit and outdoor heaters as well as music piped out. Under the patio shelter there are booths(awesome being on a patio AND sitting in a booth). We had the brisket and the St. Louis ribs with potato salad, baked beans, and a giant baked potato. They don’t serve greens(or any green vegetables). They have 4 self serve BBQ’s sauces from sweet, to vinegar based, to house hot. I mixed the sweet and the hot sauces and it was wonderful. The ribs were great and the brisket was tender and delicious. Unfortunately, the giant baked potato($ 3.95) wasn’t fully cooked. Had it been thoroughly cooked it would have been great– the skin was coated in Olive oil and fresh coarse black pepper and salt. We were both in agreement that the baked beans were excellent(not your run of the mill canned sweet beans– these had FLAVOR). I really enjoyed the potato salad– it was full of dill and tasted really fresh and good. My friend prefers a traditional, sweet relish laden mayonnaise potato salad(the kind you buy in a grocery store deli or prepack) and he wasn’t crazy about it. I chalk that up to lack of imagination. The music was campy and… moslty pretty bad! I recall disco and Bob Seger. Or was it Neil Diamond? At any rate, it wasn’t overbearing, just an odd playlist. The prices were good. It looked like they offer some good drink specials as well. Next time I’m craving mountains and BBQ I’ll definitely head here again.
