I went here on the recommendation of a coworker. I was looking for a place to take my dog on walks and he said this had a lot of really nice hiking trails. Withing fifteen minutes of hiking my dog walked into the grass next to the path and stepped into a trap someone had set. We couldn’t get the damn thing open, the dog was screaming, it was horrible. We finally managed to pry it open with a stick. Luckily, my dog wasn’t seriously hurt, but it was a horrible experience.

We go to Middle Creek every winter to see the snow geese. Towards the end of Feb into March — there are 10’s of thousands of snow geese, tundra swan and Canadian geese to see. Truly one of the most awe inspiring examples of nature I have ever seen. Check out the visitor center if you have never been… good info. Bring a picnic lunch(if the weather is warmer)…don’t forget your binoculars and long lens on your camera… there’s lots to see. You’ll stay longer than you planned… count on it.

I enjoy going here. Its a man made lake and wildlife refuge and has over 70 acres of space for hiking, driving, riding or just sitting around. You can usually find people taking pictures from amatures to pros. There is also a museum that you can browse that gives a history of the area and they hold wildlife art shows from time to time. This is also where you get your maps of the area. you should beware tho that during the winter some roads have no winter maintenance. So travel them at your own risk as no one will be along to push you out of the snow until spring.
