What an awesome place. Pesticide free produce, cage free eggs, native plants, friendly people, reasonable prices and roaming roosters and chickens!!! All under a huge shade tree!

This is a quirky little place that’s easy to miss. We got strawberries, apricots, fresh eggs, and the most delicious blueberries I’ve ever tasted(all for $ 15)! The owner was very friendly! My son loved seeing the free range chickens wandering around. She picked one of them up and let him pet her. It was awesome meeting some of the chickens that laid the eggs we bought. There were also a variety of vegetables, watermelons, local honey, and some pretty succulent plants for sale. We’ll be back when we’re in the area again!

We planned on having sukiyaki for our New Year’s Eve meal. Since I don’t trust supermarket eggs to eat raw, I called ahead to see if The Stand had eggs available. Lucky me, they did and I drove on over to grab a dozen for our dinner. Fresh as fresh could be! I also grabbed a bag of Cara Cara oranges because they’re delicious. As always, the lady at The Stand was as friendly as ever. This is my go to stand! I love that they’re open all year round. It’s truly a gem!

I haven’t written a Unilocal review in a long time, but this place is cool enough for me to break my drought. It is totally hard to find. I accidentally found it, after just seeing the signs that they have. They have a variety of produce and fruit and they also sell potted plants, like lavender and succulents. But, just within the past few months, their flock of hens has matured and they now have about 200 free ranging chickens(running all over the place) laying eggs. They have green eggs and blue eggs, white eggs and brown eggs. All different sizes! not like you would find at the grocery store! We used to get eggs at the farmers market, but this is way cooler. The lady that runs the stand is so nice and friendly and loves to talk. And you can see all the cool chickens. As of yesterday, they have cara cara oranges, lemons, and onions too. and the lady said that they are also selling their eggs at Pompeii Nursery in «downtown» Knightsen. this place is definitely worth the drive. check it out!

This place is referred to as #24 — «The Stand» at Knightsen in Brentwood’s «Harvest Time» Farm Trail Map: . It’s definitely easy to miss, so keep an eye out for it on the left as you drive north on Knightsen Ave. just a ¼ or so past the few businesses in «downtown» Knightsen near Delta Road. We stopped by because they advertised«fresh cut» basil in the trail map and were surprised when the woman manning the stand walked over to some nearby basil plants to cut us some right off of the plants. Got a huge bunch of basil for only $ 1.50(which would have been equivalent to at least $ 10 of basil in those small cellophane or plastic tubs at Safeway). A real bargain! The basil is so fresh you can put it in a glass of water and it will keep like flowers. This is what was suggested to me and the basil are still fresh after over 2 weeks. I’ve just changed the water and snipped the ends a couple of times to make sure the stems were drawing water. FYI, even though we brought the basil home only 15 minutes after they were cut, the ends were already browning and I had to snip the ends immediately so that they would draw water. The rest of the produce — tomatoes and zuchinni — at The Stand didn’t look that good to us when we were there, but it was late summer when we visited and we’ll stop by again from time to time. BTW. even though we only bought 2 bunches of basil, the lady at the stand gave us a basket of cherry tomatoes for FREE. So, we got a really good deal going there.

If you drive too fast, you won’t find it. Their driveway is makred by two orange road cones. Only advertised(AFAIK) with painted signs that are set out on nearby roads, Hartey Ranch is a little sliver of a farmer’s stand in Knightsen that holds it’s own, with Smith and Dwelly farms nearby. Hartey does both organic produce and non. If you want a bunch of fresh basil($ 2), it grows in planters right next to the tables that present the produce for sale. Can’t get any fresher than that! Other offerings: sweet Brentwood corn(What is it, like a mile away?) very fresh and tender green beans(Blue Lake variety) several different varieties of ripe, juicy peaches and nectarines, about 15 different kinds of tomatoes(heirloom and non heirloom), peppers, cantaloupe,(organic and non), local honey, organic eggs for $ 3.50 a dozen, and I can’t remember what else! The folks that own and run the place are sweet and charming as you can imagine. They sat outside and chatted with us while I picked produce and my mom admired their cute grey kitty named Boo Boo. If they had a few more offerings I wouldn’t go to Dwelley OR Smith farms, these folks are just so nice.
