The line between Virginia and Carolina(before there was a North Carolina and a South Carolina or a Virginia and a West Virginia) was drawn by King Charles I in 1665. The Royal Colonial Border was supposed to go from the Atlantic coast all the way across to the other side. Not so much. Anyway, here’s the marker for the first stake. The sign reads: Commissioners drove the first stake for the Virginia-Carolina boundary, Mar. 18, 1728, three miles N.E., across Currituck Sound. There really isn’t much else to see here.
