This place is AWESOME the Beer Cheese is a wonderful start as an Appetizer. The Barnstormer Red is a great beer and the Pizza or Cajun Pasta rocks… Plenty of other choices too, so everyone always finds something they like

The beer is very very good. They have a wide expanse of seasonal brews. The food is very good as well. The atmosphere is dark, warm and cozy. Th e staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of their food, and beers. A very casual, quaint place to take a buddy, or someone special.

This place has not disappointed me for brunch, lunch, or dinner. They have the best sirloin in town and it is very reasonably priced. Their brunch is excellent and you can see a TV from anywhere in the restaurant. I am not a huge fan of all of their beers, but the Black IPA is very good, and you obviously have many other choice spirits to choose from. Definitely give it a shot if you are in the area.

Wow. Good service. Very good, local beers and my food was excellent! I had the Philly Flatbread. Smelled amazing and the taste did not disappoint! I lean toward darker beers and tried their stout and their smoky porter. Both were good. Stout, I’d drink happily in comparison to a Guiness. Porter was very good. Deep flavor with slight smokiness but very easy to drink. Staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend trying this place!

Sorry to say my Patty Melt must have been made by a 3rd grader. Have to wonder if the burgers are made fresh. They are the exact shape and size of a hockey puck. Onion rings were good, but also seemed to be from a bag. Back to the burger. The cheese was clearly Kraft American. On a patty melt? And it was not even melted. You get a Patty Melt for the onions, right? Grilled onions! I did not count but Common Core math would say there were zero on this burger. Lastly, medium rare is pink and warm on the inside, not gray and room temp. No wonder the cheese did not melt. The Stout was not really that good either. Nice and dark, but tasted like nothing, maybe water. I’ll go back, but no burger for me.

Bartender was awesome telling us about each of the beers and not stingy on letting us try them before ordering. They have a very creative beer menu begging to be explored, so I got a flight. All were very good. These folks are for real craft beer enthusiasts. All burgers can be swapped out for a bean burger, yeah! Then I saw one of their burgers comes with fried green tomato, pimento cheese, and tomato jam. What the!!! I got that with sweet potato fries that were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Wonderful night, thank you!

Cletus. This is my favorite burger in Knoxville. Pimento Cheese, fried green tomato and tomato jam with good bun. Really good flavors and textures. Have it as is a few times, and when you are ready to take the relationship to the next level, ask to add bacon. Right out of the gate you can go full on with Fried Green Tomato appetizer. About five nice fried slices with house pimento cheese and some tomato jam. You wont tire of the flavor. Thank you for this one Blackhorse. Good place with good food. I’ve eaten at this place several times now, both take out and dinning in. Outside seating is really nice on fair weather days. Staff has always been awesome. Better fries get the fifth star.

Always a pleasurable experience. Today after a big football win last night, I experience Brunch here for the first time. The brunch menu is not overly complex a few good staple items. I opted for a salad over brunch items. The Bloody Mary was a delight again not overly complex and contained a celery stick and olives. Well mixed. I always enjoy garnish and the more the better but this was satisfactory. The service is always a delight, helpful, not overly present at the table. A great place to share a meal, with friends or family. Music is a little loud, but not overly such we ere able to lean in and have a great conversation. Plenty of televisions for watching the game. They have a great outdoor seating not space. No reservations but that wasn’t a problem at 1145am. We’ve gone here a couple times and we will definitely return!

Had brunch here this morning. Had the Nutella french toast and home fries. Just ok, nothing to brag about but not horrible either. Home fries are just deep fried potatoes, disappointing. Wait staff friendly. French toast can use some whipped cream a little more Nutella and cinnamon.

We stopped by on a whim and had a really nice night. We sat outside on the patio which never got too crowded. We ordered the apple cider and the red ale. I thought the cider was quite bitter and it reminded me of an IPA. I really enjoyed their red ale and ordered a second one. We got the soft baked pretzels which paired really well with the beers and enjoyed a pizza during the trivia night. Our waitress didn’t come by too often which is fine for me. But, she did seem rushed when we first sat down. Overall I would definitely try it again.

I visited this place on the Knox Brew Tour(which is incredible). I don’t think I’d actually ever been to this place yet, which is odd. I love that bearden area, but for whatever reason I just haven’t made it in. Secretly, that piece of real estate is very odd to me, which is really neither here nor there. However, it is funny what seeps into your subconscious when you’re picking out an eatery to patronize. Go figure. Back to, I was able to taste 3 of their delicious beers and they were quite great. My favorite was definitely the pale ale, with a close second being the red ale. For the life of me, I can’t remember any of the names. I hate that. I also tried the vanilla porter, which is their best seller. It was definitely not my style, but I can see how people would love it. It was like a fruity, frothy, dreamsicle. Anyhoo, the people were super nice and very beer savvy, and the place was comforting. I can’t wait to return and try some the awesome looking bar food!

Stopped in here during the Know Brew tour, so can’t comment about the food or service, but I did like their beer, especially the White IPA! One of the Brewers here is a graduate of the new brewing program at South College which I thought was neat. They do have their beer in kegs, bottles and cans all over town. Enjoyed learning about their history and the origins of their bottle art work.

Blackhorse is a fun little bar/restaurant tucked into Western Plaza. Unfortunately, it is located in one of the infamous locations where nothing stays in business for too long, as it has been several different restaurants before. Give it a try though. They have great beers(try the vanilla). I love their burgers and their beer cheese dip. The outdoor patio is really fun and quaint on a nice day. There are also a few pool tables and darts in one corner of the restaurant, as well as several tables and a large bar. The only thing I don’t like is the service. I feel like the hostesses and waiters aren’t the friendliest or most attentive.

Was in Knoxville for a curling bonspiel last weekend and drove by this place several times. Decided to stop in and give it a try. Nice interior with lots of tables, both high top and low. Plenty of booths. Could use a bigger bar to sit at as it was rather small. Lots of big screens if you are into them. Colton was our server and he was fantastic. Very friendly, polite and knew his beer and ciders. Loved having conversations with him. We ordered a flatbread pizza, mini burgers and a bacon, mushroom burger for lunch. All better than average. Mini burgers were black angus and came with American cheese and grilled onions. Very good. I had onion rings and they were just okay. Bacon, mushroom burger was pretty large, had a nice char on it and was very tasty. Flatbread pizza was consumed with no complaints. We tried apple cider, a old barrel cider and a Barnstormer Red Ale. The Barnstormer Red is a malty red which is my kind of beer. Bought four 22 ounce bottles to bring home. My daughter liked the apple cider enough to buy a growler. The Old Barrel cider, not positive that is the name, had a unique flavor because it was aged for a time in used whiskey barrels. I bought a growler of that. This is a go to place in my book and we will be back the next time we go to Knoxville.

It seems the new trendy thing recently is combing breweries and restaurants; I’ve had great experiences and bad ones… this one falls right at mediocre. The beer was great; I personally love a high gravity beer and at 11% it was perfect. And it’s not that the food was bad, just limited. I felt it was more of a pizzeria than a restaurant. 2 pages of pizza, except they label the first page as «flatbreads. You’re not fooling anyone with your fancy terminology. The environment was not much to be desired either; it was difficult to tell whether they were remodeling or just ran out of money to finish decorating. It’s one of those places you stop because your hungry and happen to be in the neighborhood, but not worth planning your Saturday night around.

Passing through Knoxville and determined that I was going here to eat and drink. That plan was almost thwarted by the atrocious traffic on Kingston Pike coming from my hotel. I imagine locals know ways to avoid that automotive hell. Looked like a good bar, but unfortunately I couldn’t get a seat(I had intended to arrive early but … see above). So I hung out for ten minutes or so in their waiting area — and it’s nice that they have one with a comfortable long bench seat — before scoring a bar area window table, which was fine. Good people watching. The first thing I noticed was that it was not loud in the restaurant at all. Sure, they have music playing but it wasn’t ear-splitting, conversation-killing painful like many places seem to think is appropriate. I wasn’t given a beer list — the only service oversight of the evening — but it isn’t too hard to pull up the list on their website. Given that I was passing through town and unlikely to come back to Blackhorse any time soon, I figured I’d go with their ‘flagship’ offerings. First up was the Barnstormer light. Ummm, maybe it’s good that they have a broad selection because this flagship beer wasn’t very good. In fact, it tasted off. Maybe just a bad batch. The Coalminer stout, however, was definitely not off. Five stars for that brew. Just the right balance between body and refreshment. Blackhorse has a solid menu. While not huge, I think anyone can find something they might like. I needed some greens so started with a basic garden salad — standard stuff but good. The people next to me had ordered a pizza and that looked appetizing. However, I saw the restaurant offered flatbreads with pizza toppings and that sounded good, too. And a little lighter. Although you can customize, I went with their Italian style. Crisp bread, good toppings. Along with the salad, one of these is a solid meal. As I implied, my server did well. Just the right amount of attention and timing. I could see coming here often if I lived nearby.

The sign was bright but the building was dark. I was not sure it was open. Lucky. I was not hungry but thirsty. I wish they had hefeweizen… I ordered only their beer flight. 6 kinds for $ 4.5. It’s not bad. They are all good for me. No IPA. Stout, pale ale, red ale, etc… Vanilla one is really VANILLA and a little bit sweet. Cream stout is so smooth. My waitress recommend that I should mix these two. Interesting in a good way. Their pizza and humbugger and original cocktails sound great. They have good deal lunch menus around $ 6 – 8. Their waitresses are friendly and nice. I wanna have a beer flight and a humbugger next time;)

I have only dined here once, and I must say, I won’t be going back any time soon. My sister, my boyfriend, and I brought my father here when he was visiting Knoxville, and I was just so disappointed! I ordered the bourbon salmon, and it was the MOST mediocre meal I have had in a long time. The fish was lukewarm and covered in a cold goopy sauce, which was clearly supposed to serve as the«bourbon» aspect. Yuck! The rest of the group seems to feel the same way about their meals. None of us saw fit to complain to management, but my father so rarely visits town, and I am upset that our dinner wasn’t more enjoyable.

Blackhorse has excellent beer. Quite possibly my favorite brewer in Knoxville. They also just recently started bottling it. You also can get it to go in Growlers. They are my favorite because they don’t over Hop their beer. You can tell this from how low the IBUs are on all their beer. This won’t go over well for lots of folks who like hoppy beer; but for me it is great. Their food is better than average pub food. Their giant cookie for dessert is delicious.

The more I go the more I really like Blackhorse. I’ve only received excellent service, the beer selection is good and frequently changes, and the food is tasty. My happy hour crew began meeting at this place on Sunday nights about 2 – 3 months ago. We like the $ 2.00 draft specials and the more quiet atmosphere. We can actually hear each other speak. Most of us choose to get apps or dinner while drinking, and I haven’t had a bad meal yet. Not to mention, the sweet potato fries are TODIEFOR, and I’m basically a fry addict. The pizza and beer cheese is good as well. If you are a beer enthusiast the selection is good, and if you’re new to beer there are tasting and flight options as well. I really can’t complain, and my Sunday nights at Blackhorse are becoming one of my favorite nights of the week.
