Mi Pueblo

Asked for a Miller lite. Didn’t have it. Asked for a Coors. Didn’t have it. Asked for a chili relleno. Didn’t have it. Asked for a cheese enchilada. Didn’t have it. ALL of these items were on the menu and they had none of them. And the food was not all that good for what we finally got. The market was nice though.

I finally tried Mi Pueblo and really enjoyed it! Once in the Mi Pueblo store, walk back and to the left. There are plenty of booths. You can grab a drink from the case or order it from the server. All the drinks are in glass or plastic bottles. We went ahead and picked ours which prevented the server from having to do excess running around. I got a coke, as always when I am eating tacos (it’s just bubblier that way). The chips were fresh and the salsa was pretty tasty (has lots of cilantro). There is a ton to choose from on the menu! I got 2 asada tacos and 1 carnitas all with cilantro, onions, and lime. I thought the asada had great flavor and wasn’t tough at all –which is true of a lot of steak around here. I wasn’t a huge fan of the carnitas due to lack of flavor. I tried a bite of a pastor torta and the pastor was the bomb! Tortas are fluffy bunned sandwiches with a thinnn layer of beans, meat, tomato, avo, lettuce, and MAYO, which I would have never paired with beans and pork but it makes it! I will totally get that again.
There is absolutely no reason to be intimidated here. You do not have to know Spanish to have a magical sandwich and an all around fantastic meal!

I have been going here for years and they are always great. Fantastic Street tacos, burritos, and enchiladas.

SURPRISINGLY good, authentic Mexican food. The carnitas were delicious! Also had the Asada fajitas. Exactly what you would expect. For fajitas (enough for two) and two huge carnitas tacos (think small corn tortilla shell bursting with meat, cilantro, and lime) it was $ 14. We ended up taking the tacos home because we were so stuffed. Really good salsa and chips to boot.

Without a doubt, the best chicken tacos in town. The shrimp fajitas are wonderful and the portions are large. We love the bottled cokes with the savory salsa. Do yourself a favor and go.

This was a much-​anticipated lunch for me. I’ve been wanting to try it for a while. This review is for the restaurant, though I will note the offerings in the store part are ample and the meat and produce seem fresher and cleaner than El Girasol, which is set up Ina similar fashion.
Seat yourself and be greeted with chips (good and crunchy and thick) and salsa (average). The menu is in Spanish without descriptions so if you aren’t familiar with a lot of traditional Mexican street foods, I encourage you to research huaraches, sopes, and various meats so that you feel comfortable making your order. I recognized many dishes from my time spent in Mexico City. The Sopes are generous at 4 $ a pop; you get a thick pan griddled tortilla topped with beans, cheese, meat, lettuce, crema and queso fresco. I chose carnitas for my sope and they were tender and delicious.
Tacos are &1.75 and served on delicious handmade corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. Tons of meat options — I had al pastor (the best al pastor I’ve had locally) and fish. The fish is not breaded, but the way it’s pan fried gives a great crispness. You get a bottle of green and a bottle of red salsas as condiments. DELICIOUS! the red is spicy and both are flavorful. They have beer, aguas frescas, Mexican cokes. Try this delicious spot ASAP!

It’s authentic and delicious. Reminds me of El Mercadito restaurants in East Los Angeles. Red salsa is great.

Best Mexican restaurant I have been to in a while. As authentic as you can get. English is roughly spoken, making it even better. It is nestled in the back of the grocery store. I am coming back!

Aguas Frescas. Molcajete. Sopes. Tortas. Caldos. Desayunos. Carne Asada.
If you don’t recognize the above items, you haven’t had real Mexican food, and you need to stop in here.
Had to come by when I saw a Metro Pulse article saying that they had Molcajete.
Molcajete is several different meats, veggies and cheese cooked in a delicious sauce in a bowl made of volcanic rock that keeps it sizzling all through the meal. It was delicious, about $ 13, and way too much for two hungry people to finish.
Location is inside a Mexican market, and the menu looked great, featuring several caldos, tortas, and some desayuno specialties.
Friend got a Sope de Carne Asada that was loaded with Carne Asada. For about $ 3.
Delicious Aguas Frescas. Very low prices. Generous portions. Spanish is helpful but probably not necessary. Not the best Mexican I’ve ever had, or the best Mexican in Tennessee, but it is the best Mexican in East TN that I’ve found.

What a pleasant find! A friend who shops at the store told me they have a small restaurant operating inside. Went there today with my sister (pregnant and very hungry). The server didn’t seem to speak much English but enough to take our orders and accommodate our dining needs. Menu consists of traditional Mexican food like tacos, sopas, quesadilla, fajitas, entrée combos, and various other appetizers… as some of the menu items were not translated and neither of us read much Spanish, wasn’t really sure what some of the stuff were. Free tortilla chips with salsa were provided. We ordered fish taco, seafood soup, shrimp fajita, and shrimp cocktail. The soup and shrimp cocktail portions were huge! Needless to say, we left the place with 3 to-​go boxes full of food. Try the fajita, it’s really nicely flavored and the fish on my taco were juicy and tender and cooked just right. My sister said their chicken and steak are just as good. As someone who had just returned to Knoxville from the Mexico border, I give the authenticity and flavor of this place two thumbs up. It’s not a fancy place like the numerous chain restaurants around town but definitely a great place to go for lunch.
