I stopped here to try a sandwich. I ordered the 8inch Italian with the works. What the problem was they oven grill all the sandwiches unless you say other wise. The sandwich was to go and when I got home it was wet due to lettuce and tomato being toasted. I recommend ordering a sandwich without the oven being involved. I will however give this place another try when in the mood for deli sandwich. For now my sandwich was MEH!

Being a lover of Unilocal I naturally used it to find a good place to eat on the way back to Memphis from Gatlinburg. After reading the reviews and having a boyfriend that is a deli man we decided to try out Nixon’s. The reviews were right!(Thank you Unilocal) this place is amazing, and I’m not much of a sandwich person so that’s saying alot! I had the steak sandwich on wheat and my «deli man» had the sub, both were very delicious. As were both of the potato salads(we tried one of each). I wish we had more great delis like this in Memphis! We will definitely be going back for more if we find ourselves back in the area!

Great New York style sandwiches! I asked if I could do a turkey Reuben instead of the traditional and she said, «we can do whatever you want»! My kind of place. It was delicious. Looks sketchy from the outside, but the inside is perfectly fine(clean bathrooms too).

I Am a huge Nixon’s fan. I know lots of people would disagree, but I’m a fan. I love the pumpernickel bread. The potato salad is also the best. This Merchants location is particularly quick and easy to get in and out of. Check it out!

The worst sandwich shop ever. If you like bland, soggy subs then this is your place. I wouldn’t eat at Nixon’s again if I was being paid to. If you’re eating through a tube or suffering from starvation, I’d still recommend somewhere else. Stay far, far away.

This was good. We had been on the road for ten hours and had two more to go. We didn’t want to sit and be waited on anywhere but we really didn’t want the typical road food of MCD, Taco Bell, etc. We pulled off the highway and saw the sign. Why not try a local place? Our wait was obviously longer than the fast food joints but not too long. We got the sandwiches to go and they were thankfully well wrapped making them easier to eat on the road. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches and we were thankful for something tastier and more filling than another burger and fry. For those on the highway wanting a quick get it and go stop of something other than the norm, this is a great solution. They do steam the sandwiches which makes them more comforting because they are heated, however it does make the bread a little soft and maybe even slightly soggy depending on your toppings so if you don’t like it that way ask for them not to heat it. The ladies were very friendly and helpful with our children’s orders.

I don’t really understand this place. They have some decently priced specials and a no-frills menu basically consisting of standard subs with your average toppings. There’s not much on the menu that jumps out as unique or you couldn’t quickly whip up for yourself at home — so this is essentially a place to go for the sake of convenience. Then comes the surprise when you unwrap your sub to find it’s a soggy, wet mess of a sandwich. The bread isn’t even wet because of juices from the sandwich. It’s soaked with water because they STEAM all of their subs. Why anyone, such as some previous posters, would prefer a sub this way is beyond me. It’s like opening a styrofoam container of once hot, crispy fries to find limp, soggy potato«noodles». Was a convection or toaster oven too much for the deli to spring for? Do people really prefer subs this way? I can imagine this place would be better suited for somewhere like Florida with an elderly population that is used to gumming their food and would welcome soggy bread with open arms.

Horrible service. Old nasty ingredients. sticky tables and flies are the big new at this local. They have prepackaged potato salad… but it is soggy and horrible.

Found this place on Unilocal driving from Gatlinburg TN to Lexington KY. Very pleased with the amount of food I got for what I paid. It was my first time having a steamed sub and it was delightful and unique. The fresh baked chocolate chip cookies melted in my mouth. Nice little local spot here.

Delicious sandwiches. Like the previous review they are steamed. The bread was moist but not soggy and the meats were juicy and flavorful. I would request more sauce(horseradish mayo!) next time but I prefer these guys over firehouse. Simple is sometimes the best.

Great sandwiches. This is only one of few places that still steam your sandwiches in a sandwich steamer. Toasted and Grilled sandwiches are great, but there is just something good about a steamed sandwich that make my mouth water. My favorite sandwich here is the pepperoni sub, MMMMMMM Good. I also know the co-owner and he says visit the new location on Middlebrook pike.
