The sweetest and most helpful staff. The place was hopping and the girls were efficiently managing everything with a smile. They know what they are doing. We enjoyed our experience.

Despite some of the poor reviews I decided to try it out since the location was convenient. I had a great experience! The beds are clean and the staff is friendly. They allow for call ahead reservations if your short on time. Also, if you’re a student be sure to ask about the student discount.

Didn’t honor a coupon from mint magazine for a free sunless spray tan. Girl at desk told me it was only eligible to people who had never had a spray tan before but I had checked the coupon beforehand never saw anything about this restriction. She was very curt and acted like she’d rather get me out of the store than to get my business. Will warn people against going here, there are better options around Knoxville.

The only reason they are getting a 3 star is because the staff was nice. I’m cool with up selling and all that jazz. It’s your job! I’m annoyed with the fact that I told her I am from florida. Owned a tanning bed in my home. I get super tan. I just wanted to tan 1x. She put me in a reg 20min bed… for only 10min? I got out of the bed and have 0 zero color. I’m not a leather back and I’m not pale… so I should be able to see a difference immediately after I lay in a bed.
2 hours after tan. not even a line. I won’t be going back. Smh Someone pays for a 20min bed, give them the 20min.

This is the absolute worse business I have experienced in a long time. Not ethical at all. I would stay away and not waste my money.

This place is horrible! Wait time is ridiculous. Staff is slow and incompetent. Worst run business.

The employees sit there and talk your head off and try to get you to buy overpriced lotions etc, regardless of whether there’s a line going out the door or not. I waited with one person in front of me and about 10 behind me for 20 minutes. And then when I got up to the counter she tried selling me lotion I was just like I just want to tan please. And told me I’d have to wait because none of the beds were clean. Talk about understaffed. If you have a line going out the door, efficiency and speed is more important than your stupid lotion commission.

If you have an hour to stand in line while the employees try to sell all the customers everything under the sun then by all means go… the beds are nice but customer service is beyond ridiculous.

This place is extremely overpriced. That’s one thing, but they are quite rude about it. I was visiting from out of town and they refused to offer any deal that was not a membership option for less than $ 50. That’s more than a month of unlimited spray tanning costs where I live. Ashley, the manager of some sorts, was unnecessarily condescending about not having any prices that would work for out of towners or first time customers.

I was a little nervous about trying Sun Tan City out after reading the 1-​star review, but to be honest I found it to be great. I went in with the Groupon, and they actually made me a deal that made a lot more sense because I had been planning to upgrade to a monthly unlimited plan anyway once the Groupon was done. Yes, they will try to upsell you, but that’s the business model of any of these chain tanning bed places. Just be smart about it and don’t be afraid to say, «No thanks.» The salesperson I worked with (Amanda H.) was very understanding of me not wanting to buy a bunch of extra products, and she did not pressure me one single bit when I said no. In fact, she told me, «Hey, that’s no problem at all. This is about making the best experience for you.» I was very impressed by that. Not to mention they throw in all kinds of free upgrades when you sign up, which is a nice way to use the more expensive beds to boost your base tan. Once you have a good base there’s really no reason to use the more expensive beds. And DO NOT buy tanning lotion from them. That’s the only reason I docked them one star. All the lotions they sell in the store are available online for ¹⁄₃ to ¼ of the price. Yes, they sell $ 25 lotions for like $ 80. It’s crazy. But otherwise, I have been very impressed with Sun Tan City. (And yes, of course there is going to be a wait at peak hours. If you weren’t expecting that, you must not have a job and know EVERYTHING has a wait from like 4 – 6 p.m.)
