Dumplin Valley is a pleasant campground to use as a stopover when traveling along I-40 across Tennessee(Exit 407), for inexpensive camping when visiting Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, The Great Smokey National Park, or Knoxville. While not providing the amenities of more tourist oriented destination camgrounds, the owners(Joe & Mitzi Soward) are delightful people who run a clean, comfortable park. There are a number of full hookup, grassy sites offering 30 and 50 amp electricity. The park has neither wi-fi nor cable, but over the air television from nearby Knoxville is excellent, the sites are open and the satellites easy to find, and there’s a three bar 4G cell connection for those using private cellular modems. The rest rooms are clean and comfortable. During the third weekend in September, Dumplin Valley hosts a fine, small bluegrass festival featuring major national and regional acts. It’s always a good time. Visit their web site for further information. We stay here each year for the bluegrass festival as well as when we drive through this part of the country. A good choice for people who don’t wish to pay for amenities they don’t use or for a national brand.
