Yonemura Sushi Catering

I hired Yonemura Sushi Catering for my Dad’s surprise birthday dinner for 10 people in Hanalei and I cannot say enough great things about the service they provide. Steve was extremely responsive and very flexible with finding a price that worked for us. He set up a menu for us and gave us multiple options to choose from. On the night of the event they showed up on time and brought all of their own dishes and equipment. They were very friendly and chatted with my family and me throughout their dinner prep.
The food was incredible. We started with edamame, which to be honest when I first saw it on the menu I thought «eh, alright. Edamame. Pretty typical sushi starter.» But boy was I wrong! The edamame was insanely good. The best I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was delicious. We also had calamari and our third appetizer (yes we had 3 full appetizers) was Ahi Poke. The calamari was delicious and the poke was definitely the best we had on the island. When setting up the dinner I told Steve that my sister was pregnant so they went out of their way to cook the Ahi in hers so she could still eat with us. It was great we all stole a few bites of hers! We then had a huge round of sushi and every single roll was delicious. Sushi is my dad’s favorite food, which is part of the reason I decided to go with Yonemura for his dinner and we were not disappointed.
My dad said it was some of the best sushi he has had in his life and my entire family felt the same way. Steve even made us extra sushi and left it in the fridge for us, which we ate immediately the next day. Our main course was Kalua pork sliders with lilikoi bbq sauce and, just like everything else we ate, they were incredible. And Steve saved the best for last, our desert was homemade chocolate macadamia nut gelato. It was heaven. We definitely could have eaten bowls of it. They even brought a small cake with a candle for my Dad. When we were finished they cleaned everything up and even hung around for a little bit to talk to us about the island and give us some recommendations.
Bottom line, if you are on the island and are looking to do something special for a dinner, you have to hire Steve. You will not be disappointed. Yonemura Sushi Catering goes above and beyond and truly made my Dad’s dinner a night we will all be talking about for years to come.

You cannot do better than to have Yoshi and David prepare dinner for you. They came to our condo in Princeville and prepared a wonderful, delicious welcome dinner for 18. The dinner started with a wonderful assortment of sushi, presented on a sushi boat and replenished all evening. This was followed by salad (wonderfully fresh greens and delicious Kochujang dressing), chicken, steak, baked walu fish, macaroni salad, and lilikoi chiffon pie for dessert. Food was locally sourced and incredibly fresh. Dishes were prepared in our kitchen, giving us the chance to chat, watch, and admire. This made the dinner a leisurely feast, giving everyone a chance to visit and enjoy being pampered.
Yoshi and David were so easy to work with, responding to emails or phone calls promptly, and accommodating changes with good grace — even a last minute change of date! When they learned of any dietary needs, they adapted special servings of food for that person. They left some uncooked fish fillets and steak for us, plus leftovers, so we had two more dinners (with some supplementation).
The five star Unilocal rating has the heading «As good as it gets!» This could not be more true. They are simply the Best! I only wish we lived in Kauai so we could do this more often.

This review is a bit overdue but I have to say that Yonemura Sushi Catering was wonderful to work with!
My sister got married in October 2014 and we were hosting a small bridal lunch before the wedding. At the last minute we decided that we needed to add something a little special and went looking on Unilocal to see if there was anything we could do. We came across the Unilocal review for Yonemura Sushi Catering and decided to call. This was literally last minute as we called the day before the bridal lunch!
Steve was able to put together two great sushi platters that were the highlight of the food! Steve was very knowledgeable about what could be gotten freshest and for the most value and was able to work within our budget. He delivered the food on time and with all the extras. Most importantly the sushi was delicious. I think we all devoured it in about 15 minutes flat!
I was not expecting anything half as nice as we got especially as we called at the last minute. I would highly recommend Yonemura Sushi Catering to anyone/

Yoshi and his staff did a great 4^th of July party for us for about 40 people. He made wonderful traditional rolls and more creative rolls — such as my favorite — basil, macadamia nuts, garlic, cream cheese and avocado. Amazing! He is a wonderful guy. His prices are very fair. He puts his heart and soul into what he’s doing. We will hire him again! Mahalo Yoshi!

We are so, so very happy that we chose Yonemura Sushi to cater our mom’s surprise 70^th birthday party in Kauai. We would HIGHLY recommend them for anyone planning a catered event in Kauai.
From the first call, Yoshi was fantastic to work with via phone/​email and the food ended up being one of the top highlights of the event. Everything was super fresh, locally sourced, creative, and most importantly, delicious (!). The presentation also elicited many compliments from our 19 guests. The dishes we selected included a spread of poke, fish, beef, yakitori chicken, sashimi, sushi, all prepared with local Hawaiian flavors. The Lilikoi chiffon pie was also a huge hit with the older generation of guests who prefer light, fruity desserts.
Some extra highlights where Yoshi and Dan went above and beyond our expectations —
— They were very accommodating about our timing requests/​needs, which changed a few times in the days leading up to the event.
— They brought a gorgeous, fragrant homemade lei to honor our mom for her birthday; this was a really sweet touch!
— They offered to conduct a site visit to the event location prior to the event, which helped us ensure that everything went off without a hitch.
— They specifically prepared separate dishes for 4 of our guests who had special dietary requirements.
— They were very friendly with our guests, taking time to answer questions and explain the sources of their ingredients. They were also incredibly calm and composed through the whole night, which was a strong reflection of their professionalism and experience.

Best Sushi ever! If you’re ever looking for sushi catering, call Yoshi. He’s very easy to deal with and has some awesome sushi creations.

Let me preface this review by saying that we choose Kauai as the place my best friend and I would get married. There were so many decision that had to be made from the mainland but my fiancé did a fantastic job. We were blending two families; me with my son and daughter and her with her two girls (all adults). We also had my daughters boyfriend and her daughter’s husband and their infant daughter so we had a group of 8 ½.
We all love to eat and the goal was to have a «family» dinner after we got married that all would enjoy. I searched many sights and discussed with many friends about having a chef come to the house and cook for us. I read some great reviews on Unilocal about Yonemura Sushi Catering so I gave Steve a call. I found talking to Steve was easy and he was so thoughtful and accommodating about food selections and he also offered some great suggestions. I had a great feeling about Steve’s skills and culinary expertise so we booked him for our all important first «family» meal.
Steve and his lovely wife arrived promptly and quickly set up and prepared for our pending culinary adventure… and what an adventure it was! We have a bunch of «foodies» in our group so listening to Steve’s knowledge of local fish and ingredients was amazing. How was the meal? All I can say is it was so much better than I ever expected. Steve and his wife were so intent on making everyone happy that they even noticed that my son wasn’t too keen on the poke (even though it was the absolute best and everyone else loved it) so Steve made him a tempura shrimp roll that my son gobbled down. All the dishes Steve presented were not only great tasting but the presentation was fantastic. It was very apparent that Steve and his wife really took pride in every detail from the quality of food, food presentation and most of all customer satisfaction.
Yonemura Sushi Catering topped off our fabulous wedding with an exceptional culinary event, my family can’t stop talking about how much they enjoyed everything about the meal. I highly recommend Yonemura Sushi Catering.

Super Awesome!!! The sushi was fresh, beautifully decorated, perfect fish to rice ratio! Came with all the fixings. I will definitely call you for future parties thank you so much Yoshi for doing such a wonderful job catering my daughter’s graduation party! And my daughter’s boyfriends grad party too lol!

Wow, what an amazing dinner Yoshi prepared for us. We rented a house on the north shore of Kauai for a week and wanted to do something special one night of our trip. By recommendation, we hired Yoshi to prepare a custom menu for us. He brought a ridiculous amount of the freshest fish and made a great variety of sushi and appetizers. We ate until we were stuffed and he left an awesome plate of sashimi for us for the next day as well. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a memorable meal!
