I had a couple bad experiences in ‘8’ hotels back in the 1980s, so I’ve avoided them until now. But we were very pleased with the Kountze Super 8. First of all, it was located in a quiet area, so we felt safe. The staff was very friendly and everything was very clean.
I was quite happy with the overall value — for an economical hotel, the room was spacious and the cable channels generous. Free WiFi and our room had a microwave & fridge, too. It was too cold to try the pool and outdoor jacuzzi, but the free continental breakfast was nice. My wife especially liked their waffle-​making machine.
BTW, the Big Thicket Visitor’s Center and Kirby Nature Trail are just a few miles to the north, and definitely worth checking out.
