This is my second time here. On my first visit, I happened to find this place driving down Foothill. I needed a haircut, on an emergency basis just before the holidays. Ray was super busy, but he accommodated me and squeezed me in. BEST haircut ever! I told him what I wanted, he made it happen. I’m coming here from now on.

Ray is my go to barber for a reliable no nonsense haircut. Everything you need a barber to be, friendly, consistent and cheap. like the other guys said, better to make an appointment as he likes taking his boat out.

Great barber shop. Been going here for a long long time. Usually went to Monte before he retired — now go to Ray. Like other reviews… Ray lives large and goes on vacation(to snow ski/to water ski/to softball tournaments/etc). No problem-just call well in advance. Will continue to go here regularly.

Ray’s Barber Shop is a classic joint — an old school barbershop in the best way. A haircut at Ray’s is a trip back in time to an era when neighborhood pharmacies had soda fountains, and, barbershops were places where patrons speak their minds like neighbors. There’s a friendly vibe all around. Ray is a very down to Earth haircutter, with a stellar personality. You’ll find none of the bright lights, sterility, and blasting music you might expect in an ordinary«hip» salon. This place is as far away from Vidal Sassoon and Paul Mitchell as Earth is from Pluto. Naturally, if you’re not particularly vocal, you can watch widescreen satellite TV — the channel fixed on some sporting event. Or just let your eyes wander to the various accroutments and antiques Ray’s collected over the years. I never miss an opportunity to have my mane groomed at Ray’s.

I dunno, man. It really feels like a club you’re not a part of. And no matter what size you ask the clippers set to you’re pretty much gonna get a number 3… maybe a 2.5 I went here twice and then moseyed on down to the next barbershop.

I just made another appointment with Ray after having been to him five times. So, I now consider myself a ‘regular’. Ray loves speed boats and fast pitch softball, and does an excellent job creating your preferred cut. At this quality for $ 12, a $ 3 tip is an easy pleasure to give. No need to go anywhere else, and I am now thinking«what will I do when Ray retires?»

In travelling around the country, I have found only two other barbers who can cut a man’s head of hair as good as Ray, and that was in San Francisco near Pacific Beach & the other was across the street from the Marine Depot in S.E. Washington D.C. I can’t remember when I started to going to Ray’s, but my guess is that it is going onto 20 years. I really appreciate his artisan skills in cutting a mean«flat top». Yes, it’s the one that got really popular in the late 1950’s & had a mini revival in the early 90’s. Getting an extremely competent flat top is like a lost art form so Ray, in my estimation, is a national treasure. One warning: Ray likes to go on vacation a lot so call before you go, or you may waste quite a bit of your time & gas. He takes optional appointments Tuesday-Friday, and opening hours vary, but he closes close to 6pm especially if his baseball team plays that evening. To guarantee that your hair will be cut in due time, definitely make an appointment, or you might be disappointed. On Saturdays, he is open around 9am, but it is first come, first served, and he closes early around 3pm. Ray is a hell of a good haircutter. I will miss him if he ever retires. Oh, and it’s cash only.

Really Ghodsi value. Nice man. Loved watching the TV. The best part is that he took my reservation so to that I didn’t have to wait. I have a new barber!

Without a doubt the best barber in La Cresenta and Montrose area, and $ 12 compared to $ 15– $ 20 at others in the area. You can ring and make an appointment or ask if he is busy. Always have an interesting chat and he knows how to cut.

Ray, provides great service at an excellent price. He is friendly and personable and will talk about any subject you want to discuss. La Crescenta is extremely lucky to have a young man providing a business that supports the community and has been there for years. I have been a customer of his for over 10 years and have never had a bad hair cut. Not only can you call 818248‑9845 and set up an appointment Tuesdays through Friday but you can drop by anytime and he will work at getting you in on Saturdays. You cannot go wrong with getting your hair cut at Ray’s.

I spent my entire adult life looking either like Frodo Baggins or an orbiter satellite. You see, I have gigantic ears, and I’d either cover them up with a «do» fit for the Shire or walk around looking like I could give cable TV a run for its money. Ray found the perfect balance, and all I had to say was«lighten ‘er up». I’d been to some of the Armenian barbers/“stylists”(heavy on the scare quotes) in the area with comparable prices, but they left me looking like I’d just stepped off the boat and somehow bathed in Aqua Velva. After you pay the whole 12 dollars, leave a little somethin somethin in the tip jar. It goes towards filling his speedboat’s hulk of a tank.

BESTBARBER, EVER. Each barber’s chair has a T.V. in front of it. Each T.V. will have sports and/or news on. Ray is awesome, funny says what’s on his mind — but is polite. Most of the customers are«regulars» so if they keep coming back, something must be good, right? There are pictures of Ray’s award-winning speed boat, and a bunch of golf balls on the walls. One of the funniest things about the place is that Ray has a picture of him, from the ‘80s — with a mullet… but now he simply shaves his own head. Go see Ray for a good haircut. Cash only — it’s about $ 12 for a good time and a good haircut. Don’t forget to tip! Appointments are needed Monday through Friday. Saturdays walk-ins are welcome.
