It honestly depends on which department you go into, what I would give the whole hospital’s star rating. As far as the OB department goes, they are great, for the most part. I LOVE my OB/GYN, Jennifer McElroy. She is very down to earth and also, considers my feelings in regards to my pregnancy. She appreciates my decisions and does not force any on me. During my last pregnancy, I had Dayna Schwarz and she was an absolute sweetheart who I feel saved me and my son’s life when I was pre-eclamptic and a midwife there refused to listen to me. Dr. Schwarz was a saving grace and did. All that being said, during labor with my son, the labor and delivery department really could have used some improvement with bedside manner. The overnight postpartum nurses are great, though, especially Tracy. The ultrasound/radiology department is really nice. All the ultrasound techs have always been nothing but kind to me. The pediatric department is great. They are all also very sweet and we have yet to have an experience that has disappointed us. Urgent care, however, is horrible. For the most part. They don’t seem to have a whole lot of education. We took my son in and they misdiagnosed his eczema as ringworm. We wanted a second opinion and sure enough, a second opinion confirmed that it was eczema. As a patient myself, I personally hated having to go into urgent care when there was no other option. It feels like they are more of guessers in there, than they are doctors. Also, they were great in the NICU with our full term son. They adored him, took good care of him, and we had one of the greatest, sweetest doctors ever in there: Jose S. Yuvienco. I was terrified the whole time my son was in there, but he was great at reassuring me and my fiancé that he would be okay. Overall, I say it depends on the department you’re going to, but I prefer Mayo Health Clinic over Gundersen, anyday.
