I came here for Mothers Day and had to say I was surprised at how dirty the plates, glasses and cups were, that is simply unacceptable!

Service is hit or miss at this place. The last time I went, the waitress seemed like she was covering too many tables and as a result, service was really slow. I personally think the menu could be more extensive on the non-breakfast side(no appetizers, for example) and only certain items are worth ordering. The turkey dinner was good, the chicken sandwich with avocado and mushrooms(forgot the name they call it) was a little bland tasting and the portion of fries was small. The pie is great though. Wouldn’t say it’s a bad place but definitely won’t be my first choice in the future.

Well it’s like a Village Inn or Perkins type place. Lots of breakfast fare and diner type food. It had okay food but the Pie… get the pie. Actually order more than one slice. I would say you have to get the strawberry-rhubarb, it’s the stuff of dreams.

I have to give this place a 5 star because my mother used to love coming here on the weekends for breakfast. The waitress and all the staff used to make her feel like home. They have great customer service and they are always making sure you have what you want or need. Very inexpensive the quality of food and they have a big variety of choices. If they don’t have something you want on their menu, they’ll try making you happy. They do have some amazing fresh pies here! I’ll definitely come here again and recommend to friends.

I come here with my girlfriend almost every week, and we’ve always had great service! Nicole and Tomas always take great care of us and are the reason we keep on coming back. :) Thanks to both for being the best. The staff is seriously great. They are very good at keeping up with their tables and always seem to handle some of the worst customers I’ve ever had the displeasure of overhearing idiotic complaints from with the utmost grace. The food here is of course traditional American comfort food and it’s all about the pies. Nothing too fancy but it’s still yummy and there’s a ton of options to choose from. If dine-in isn’t your thing there’s the option to buy pies in the front. It’s a very nice, calm, casual kind of place that is definitely worth a try for those who haven’t experienced Baker’s Square before.

Ya, I know four stars for Bakers Square… what the hell are you thinking?! Well, let me tell you some facts little Unilocalers. First, this place has been here since I was in high school and that is a long time ago. They still have the«atrium» area that was cutting edge in the 70’s, now not so much but I dig it because now it’s considered retro. Second, they cater to pretty much anyone. Pie people, hipsters who think it’s cool to go to these old school places and seniors who can pretty much find something on the menu to please them, families with kids in tow, and moms getting together for coffee and gossip(sadly they do NOT serve alcohol). Third, they handle large groups quite well and the restie is big enough to accommodate folks in wheel chairs or other disadvantage folks. Fourth, their food is pretty much OK. Don’t expect gourmet anything here and if you know that walking in you’ll be fine. Fifth, they have old school servers. Woo hoo! I’ve been here twice and will say both times it warmed my heart to hear the waitstaff saying«do you want the usual?» The waitress we had was wonderful. Friendly, busy but checked on us enough. So I just gave five reasons why this place is cool. Read on little Unilocalers. I’ve brought my elderly Dad here and he enjoys looking out the window onto LaGrange Road and is in awe at the number of cars and people walking outside! He can get a small chicken pot pie, a small salad and take home a piece of pie. We have good conversation, enjoy good service and life is good. I’m not a food snob but have been to some pretty nice restaurants. This is not up there with the crème de le crème but hear this… you could do a lot worse. If you do go here, understand portions are quite large. I’m not a huge eater and not knowing what I wanted last time I was here I ordered fish and chips. Why? I have no idea. The waitress said«you want the smaller portion, right?» I said«yep.» I received four pieces of fish, a mound of french fries and a bowl(yes a bowl) of cole slaw and piece of foccacia along with whipped butter. OMG. I hate ¼ of it. Let me tell you though, their coleslaw was damn fresh and not swimming in dressing. Well done. So there is my four star review for this chain resaurant(don’t hate) on busy La Grange road that caters to seniors and moms with 5+ kids in tow.

Worst service ever. The server jesus was very rude and didnt understand a single word we were saying. my mother wanted a caesar salad with ranch on the side and he forelced us to get the mix greens with ranch because he said the caesar comes with only caesar dressing… not to mention the hour long wait for our food. He waited 25 minutes before letting us know they didnt have the entrée that my mom ordered so we had to wait longer because she had to order something else. I serve downtown and i have never experienced such terrible service. Wont be coming here again for a while…

So the first host was horrible as soon as we walked in. She waddled us to our table, and then seemed bothered when we asked for a table that wasn’t near the freezing entrance door. But we got the table we wanted, cus I’m a boss. As soon as our waiter«Eric» came by we knew he’d be awesome. He was very polite and excused himself whenever leaving the table. He knew his shit too. I suggest you ask for him if you visit this location. Anyway he was prompt to take the order and brought me the French Silk pie right away, before my turkey pot pie. Pie was incredible, very fresh. Then came the real food. The Ceasar salad I was served was mind blowing. The dressing was perfect, it was served in a separate bowl but on the same plate, it had parmasean cheese, and the most amazing part… the croutons, yeah it had croutons, were still warm like they had just been made… freaking sweeet! The pot pie was also incredible with the perfect amount of turkey and delicious veggies. My beautiful girlfriend had the BLT and some fries. She loved it. I was able to dig into a few pieces of bacon due to the overabundance of slices that were on there… I was really winning today. Once we got back to the register though the parade was over. Terrible host was there, she didn’t seem happy, still. She avoided us by looking the other way even though her register was open. So the new cash register girl finished her customer then got to us. She asked us how everything was, I replied that our waiter was amazing and the food was incredible. No response. At this point I noticed her mustache, but said nothing. It was lined up nice though. Anyway we left with full bellies and glad Eric was super cool and made the location worth revisiting. 4 stars for the bad hosts, otherwise it’s a 5.

I’ve only been here for pies and they’re delicious! The restaurant interior could use some updating though.

Sometimes you just need a slice of pie at 10pm on a Saturday night! I guess that’s what happens when you hit your 30s. I haven’t been to a Bakers Square since… high school, I think. My friends and I were craving something sweet and this is the only place open so late at night. I never though I’d give a chain restaurant four stars, but service was excellent, we enjoyed our pies and the coffee kept flowing. We stuffed our pie holes, then headed back to the city to dance off the calories.

Three strikes and your out! Gave it 3 tries and it happened again. No waiter-waitress after a more than 10 minute wait. Nothing no drink orders nothing, nothing, nothing!!! Nothing stars. Never see me again!

The prices are not bad and the food is good. I enjoy the«Free Pie Wednesday» special, the pies are delicious and gives me an opportunity to try out something different every time. The only thing that bothers me is that the last few times I dined in one of the staff members was vacuuming while everyone else was still eating. It was weird, loud, and distracting. When I do have time to dine in it’s not until later in the night, maybe 2 – 3 hours before closing time. I guess the employees want to get their cleaning done early??? I’m not really sure what the case is, but since it has happened more than once I definitely think twice if I REALLY want to dine in or go to another restaurant where I know I won’t have a vacuum next to me while I try to enjoy dinner with my husband.

Food was average as we enjoyed soup and burgers, while the pie was delicious. The service was friendly and extremely fast. My issue is the restaurant itself, which looks dirty and unkempt if you happen to look up, your appetite will be doused after looking at the filthy air vents and surrounding tiles. Just thinking of these makes me cough and choke. The paint seems to be peeling and the spots make it look moldy.(Cough, cough). So take a loading dose of amoxicillin before you leave and hopefully you will ward off lung infection. Come for the pie, just take shallow breaths.

I’m just happy there are a few Baker Squares left. We normally come to this location on Wednesday for their«Free Pie Wednesday» or whatever. My husband is a big fan of the sugar seizure inducing Peanut Butter cup or whatever. I like boring apple. I always get the«Grown Up Grilled Cheese». You’d have to be a real idiot to mess up a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. So far, they have not. The wait staff is hit or miss. Sometimes really attentive sometimes. not so much. We’ve often requested our pie slices to go because we were just so damn tired of waiting for a drink refill or a glass of water. Our servers have never brought out our food, its always been a manager. Eh’ its okay when you don’t really know what you want for dinner. but nothing that exciting.

Stopped on a way to a party to get a dessert. We picked up a cherry pie and it was really okay. It tasted like canned filling, I mean, I could have gotten one this good at Jewel and it would have cost somewhat less. So why bother going there, right? We didn’t dine in, the girl behind the counter seemed to be hinting we should tip her for handing us a pie…

We were hungry and were no where near home yet. We wanted personal service, so we decided to hop on in here. First, it was quite COLD in here, second, the coffee was terrible. We asked for a new pot. The nice waiter came out with a nice steaming hot carafe. Thanks! Then, came the Battle of the Flies. I mean, we’re not sure if we were just seated in the wrong spot, but it seemed to be an endless amount of flies and gnats around our table. We ate quickly, paid our tab and left hurriedly. I’ll be back, just to see if anything’s changed?

What to do when the sidewalks of downtown LaGrange have rolled up for the evening and your sweet tooth demands satisfaction? Head down La Grange Road to Bakers Square. They are open til midnight and serve pie and coffee til the bitter end. And they got free parking. The servers here are pretty good. Good attitude, helpful, on the ball. Prices reasonable.

Not too sure why this place is getting slammed by several Unilocalers. To me, if I had to eat at Bakers Square, this one would be it. Wait staff is always freindly, I know the Manager and he tries to do a good job. If the food isn’t to my liking, they will cheerfully fix whatever is bothering you. On the negative side, the place does have a certain bit of funkiness too it. Kinda smells like dirty bathroom or damp mildewy rug. To me, food is pretty ordinary, consistent but not exactly great. For food, I generally stick with one of the stir fried pita’s or a breakfast deal. The stir fried chicken pita is great. Breakfast is generally a safe bet but avoid the Hickory Skillet, much to greasy and salty. Fried sandwiches like the patty melt are likewise greasy. I come here fairly regularly because some female friends of mine love this place. Generally I am OK with it because the food isn’t bad and the wait staff is pretty decent.
