The new owner contacted me and explained that it must have been the previous owner. I will give the shop another try. I appreciated the polite and prompt response to my review from the new owner.

I had a very positive experience in this store when selling some coins. There was no pressure to sell, and the gentleman was honest about the current market.
Always look into the retail value of your coins before selling, but also recognize that a retail store will offer less than that. I found their margin to be reasonable.
The staff is friendly. Don’t be afraid to visit.

This review is a little more than a year over due but better late than never. First let me say that the negative reviews on here are actually about the PRIOR owners. This place is under new ownership and the gentleman there now that helped us is AMAZING!!! My boyfriend and I were visiting from Tucson Arizona and we were lucky enough to stumble into this fine and exceptional establishment. Jeff, I believe his name was, is not only a wealth of knowledge but also incredibly kind and was a pleasure to talk too. He even let my rather large dog in to nap on his carpet while we chatted away. We purchased a coin that held very special meaning to me due to my Jewish heritage and while we love the coin, it was really more about the customer service we received there that made it such a memorable experience. To be frank, we went in as browsers but left as buyers because of the service and friendliness we encountered there. I highly recommend this coin business over any other to anyone who is in the La Cholla area!!!

I decided to visit La Jolla Coin Shop because I have been collecting coins for quite some time and wanted to turn them into some cash. I met with Jeff and he was great! Very professional, but not pushy at all. He gave me a price and invited me to shop it around. I left and did some further homework and quickly realized that he had offered me a very fair and competitive price. He bought my coins and I left happy. You can definitely feel comfortable dealing with La Jolla Coin Shop for buying or selling.

I went here to sell my father’s coin collection. Jeff was friendly and very helpful, giving separate prices for each item and explaining what was valuable (for collectors or just for its metal content) and what wasn’t. He went through the fairly large collection quickly and efficiently, and before too long I had a nice check in my hand. When I decided to sell one set on eBay because some recent sales had been better than what he could offer — even though he made some effort on the phone with their companion store to see if he could match it – he was perfectly matter of fact about it and didn’t try to pressure me at all. You definitely should disregard the reviews for the previous insane owner; you thankfully won’t encounter that anymore at this shop.

We have been customers of La Jolla Coin Shop for over 2 years now. Customer service has transitioned like NIGHT and DAY. New owner Jeff has bent over backward to satisfy us in our purchases and negotiations. It truly is a pleasure doing business with La Jolla Coin Shop and I would highly recommend you purchase your coins there.

This place is under new ownership and completely redone! I had visited this place before and it was so cluttered and just not inviting. Not to mention that the previous owner was not mr personality. However, when I walked into the newly renovated place I was just shocked at how it looks now! It’s completely remodeled from the bottom up. Plus the new owner, Michael was so friendly and helpful!

I think I’m going to go in this place with a camera and see if I can get a good youtube video.

It looks like everybody else went to the same shop I did. The first time I went in he was pretty belligerant when I asked a couple questions I didn’t think were all that stupid. Long story short, I was interested in acquiring some silver asap, so I made a couple fairly substantial buys from the guy about 6 weeks apart. On these occasions he was not overtly rude, but just being civil really chaffs with this guy, you can tell. The reviewer that labeled him «misanthropic» hit the nail on the head.
I went in there about a week ago, intending to buy more silver, but asked him to take a look at a couple of coins that I thought might be of some collector value. You would think I walked in with photos of my fraternity gang-​banging the guys grandmother. As I stepped out the door he screamed «Go fuck yourself!!» so loud that everybody on Girard turned around and looked at me. Which was perversly sublime, I must admit.
I say go in and ask as many stupid questions as possible, just to fuck with the guy.

Don’t go here. The owner is the rudest person I have ever met and I have met some real jerks. This guy takes the cake. I cant see how they stay in business. I went in to buy a gold coin. Politely asked a few relevant questions and I was shouted out of there and called an idiot because I didn’t know the technical definition of «spot price». His reaction was so aggressive and over the top I thought it was a joke at first.
