Not that impressed clean wholesome, didn’t find it to be as awesome as my friends raved Acai bowl to me was bland nothing extra ordinary, but… the owner is aiming to please I’ll be back, to try something else. New star for quality control and customer care.

Excellent coffee and healthy options. My wife and I came here for breakfast and loved the Acai bowls and organic coffee. Prices are amazingly affordable for such great food.

The Shores sandwich(turkey with brie and cranberry) is delicious. It’s well-balanced and fresh. The bread is soft. You can also buy bags of nuts and other snacks. Most of the baked goods are from Bread and Cie. The muffins are soft and sweet. The chocolate croissants are good. I knocked off a star because it always smells like farts inside the café. It’s very distracting. Maybe it’s a strategy to speed up the customer turnover?

They forgot my order… again. Sandwiches have been upgrades. Staff is kind. FYI: this is the same staff that forgot my order., AGAIN! I could spend every lunch day here if the kind staff cared. Owners have continued to focus on improving the beach casual interior. However it doesn’t matter how much focus is given to interior space and menu selection if the kind-hearted restaurant staff is three levels detached from«whatever».

This is the successor of the old Squires Café which I had the misfortune to step foot in a few times in the past. I am a croissant snob which is usually the reason why I go to such cafes. It was not very hard to be better than Squires but this place is really better. Instead of the old morose guys and the inedible croissants there are pleasant and courteous persons behind the counter and the croissant is among the better ones in town. Too bad I only had the chance to try the chocolate one. The place is clean and neat. The wifi is fast and reliable. Not sure why you have to give your name for a simple cup of tea though. Anyway, in the category of simple roadside cafes it deserves 5 stars IMO.

I ordered an açai bowl from here. It took about 10 minutes to come out, but it was okay because I was looking around at some of the stuff in the store. The description for the bowl on the menu says that it is topped with mixed berries and nuts. When it came out, all that was on top was strawberries and cashews, nothing«mixed». I’m used to my açai & berry bowls being topped with bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. I appreciated the cashews though, they went super well with the sweetness of the açai. And if you like them, they sell theirs homemade in the store, as with their homemade trail mix also. They topped the whole bowl with really sticky honey. I wasn’t a fan of that.

This is my second visit here and all I can say is Amazing! Super awesome friendly staff, excellent fresh sandwiches, totally reasonable pricing. Today I ordered the Pumpkin Spice latte dirty(espresso added) with coconut milk along with their incredibly delicious Blacks Beach Sandwich which comes perfectly toasted on a pretzel bun Mmm. This is my favorite café in La Jolla hands down! A sure place to keep me in a happy mood.

Got the breakfast wrap and the bagel sandy for breakfast. The wrap was delicious but the bagel was very average– a bit salty. Also got the iced latte and the hot mocha. Latte was a but bland so added their honey and it tasted better. The mocha was good. The place itself is nice– nothing too special but definitely a place to chill and study on a weekday. They serve acai bowls and different types of granola, which seemed to be really popular. The girls are super nice too.

I stopped back in to give this place a second try. Of course, they were out of sourdough bread again. But that wasn’t going to stop me! I opted for The Shores on multigrain wholewheat bread. I was a little apprehensive at first, but this isn’t your cheap thrills wholewheat. This is your $ 8/loaf from Trader Joe’s; you know, the good shit! Nina absolutely killed it with love! This beautiful sandwich was piled high with fresh greens, sprouts, fresh sliced turkey, and smothered in a sweet-tangy cranberry sauce. The slice of Brie cheese almost goes unnoticed, almost. The Brie’s creamy finish definitely hits the high notes and really brings this sandwich together. Customer service was on point and my meal didn’t disappoint! Good job, Shore Thing Café, I’ll definitely be back with all my friends!

I like to pick my daily coffee shop based on the following(in order):(1) location,(2) interior design,(3) breakfast food and finally(4) coffee taste. I have my go to places in North Park, Little Italy, La Jolla and Encinitas which all have 3 of the 4. All have a cool location or interior, but I have never been able to find one that has great food and great coffee at the same time. The last three mornings I have been to The Shore Thing Café, and I can honestly say they have a the winning coffee/food combination. The service has been really good. The breakfast sandwich, Acai bowl, and Yogurt/Granola were delicious. The Capuccinos are really well prepared with great tasting espresso that is not bitter. The location(La Jolla Shores) can’t be better. The interior is just OK, but this coffee shop will definetely be part of my daily rotation.

Very good location and easy to park for crowded beach area. The sandwich was huge for the money and very fresh. It was a bit bland and thus 4 stars but everything else was five stars including the super helpful staff

Another café that doesn’t look like much on the outside, but has a very nice atmosphere on the inside. The staff was very friendly and greeted us at the door. I ordered the Acai bowl. I wish they used agave nectar rather than honey because the honey seemed too much. The only flaw about this place is the overwhelming, lingering smell of bleach from the tables that were previously cleaned. They should have diluted it a bit. Overall, this is a cute hangout joint with reasonably priced food.

Cute, small La Jolla café. The service was friendly, but both the acai bowl and the coffee were just ok. It is conveniently located if you are staying at Hotel La Jolla but next time I will plan on walking a bit further to find something different.

Sometimes, some restaurants should have more than five stars. This is one of those rare restaurants. Food — — Unique. Service — — Superb. Atmosphere — — Whatever you make it… as it should be. My only fear is everyone else is going to find out about this magnificent place and I won’t be able to get in:) But so be it, we should all share the wealth :-)

Ugh. Was looking for a nice breakfast place to start my day in La Jolla before trekking back across country in my Chrysler Town & Country Hertz but«Shore Thing» was not. I had the Oatmeal Berry Bonanza. It was ok but I coulda had the same thing at Starbucks and not spent $ 5.55(and I’m not a Starbucks fan). It had hot oatmeal covered with cold yogurt, blueberries, cashews, bananas and dried cranberries. I ate half and tossed the rest. It’s a cute little corner place that is in need of a makeover as this could be a gold mine with the right menu and vibe which it had none of… next time, I’ll look a little further.

Well I’ve gotta hand it to them… they make great food and Nina and Tre’ sure know their way around a salad… And all through it! Great customer service from everyone working there! It’s an all around great experience every time I go in and it’s nice when people know you and make you feel welcome and remember what you like even when you can’t frequent a place as often as you would like. It’s definitely a Shore Thing! Well since this review I found out they have eliminated my favorite and only salad that I eat there sadly. Everyone is still super great but I do miss my salad.

Came in three times and ordered the same exact things: a chai latte and an amazon acai bowl. The amazon acai bowl is pretty good, but at $ 8 is pretty expensive. I love the honey and granola and it all works well together. The chai was made differently each of the three times. It tasted different every time. Once was way too creamy and sweet. Once was perfect. And once was a little too sweet and creamy. This tells me that they don’t have a fixed recipe and I don’t like«hoping» it will be made right when I go. It should be easy enough to figure out, since they use a powder mix. I was also charged a different amount each time, even though I ordered the same thing every time.

We came in the morning for a quick bite, and ordered 3 Beach Club sandwiches, and a Rainbow Quinoa salad. All the food was amazing, tasted really good surprisingly for a small café. The Beach Club sandwich had turkey, avocado, bacon, tomato and lettuce on sourdough bread, with chipotle sauce! The Rainbow Quinoa had quinoa, dried cranberries, dried peaches, orange bell peppers, pepitas, sprouts, and mixed greens. It also came with balsamic vinaigrette. The food was definitely delicious, but the only downside to the café was that it was so hot inside, the outside weather was at least 10 degrees cooler.
