What the place lacks in size it makes up for in taste and personality. I loved the food, enjoyed sitting here and was happy with how nice the people were who work here. I had the schnitzel and it was great! Get a hummus plate with pita. Great Israeli food in a comfortable setting. Glad I stayed at the Marriott… It was a 6 minute walk away and delicious!

Great to have some authentic Israeli food here in San Diego! I have ordered almost all the items in the menu and have never been let down. Their pita is amazing and fresh! I’d recommend the shawama simply because it’s my personal favorite. They have a sabbath take out menu which is really great. Love supporting s local kosher restaurant will definitely be coming back soon.

Yes, I love their food. Their food is very simple but its really good. I like to go here once in a while. There is private parking, not too much place to sit, but if you go at a no-rush time you can enjoy a good meal with the hassle of finding a table. Their israeli food is always delicious. And they are very friendly. I recommend this place to my friends and people looking to have israeli food.

Basic kosher food at reasonable prices. A café that does not pretend to be a restaurant: you order at the counter from the one-page menu, and your food is ready in a few minutes.

Good portions, friendly, home made style cooking. Not Gormet, but that is not what they are going for. They are filling a much needed role for an actual kosher certified restaurant in San Diego/la jolla. The shawarma is awesome and food arrived super quick.

I called ahead to ask if they could accommodate a group of 15 on a Sunday and was told«no problem.» Within minutes of arriving, the tables were set. Everyone received their orders correctly and without a long wait. The food was good, portions were good and reasonably priced(for kosher, that is) :-). Even though it’s just a fast-food type set up(walk up to the counter, place your order), it’s definitely the best kosher restaurant in San Diego with a nice meat menu! Of course, currently it’s the ONLY restaurant in San DIego, but still, I would definitely recommend it.

I feel a void of traditional Jewish deli’s in San Diego. So, I went to The Place with my husband hoping that I would find one. While the food we ordered was good and freshly cooked, it was plain tasting and expensive. The menu items did not reflect what I was searching for in terms of traditional Jewish deli food — schwarma is not traditionally on the menu for example. All that said, the atmosphere was pleasant and clean, and the service was fine.

Hey ladies I’m visit the place at the jcc at least 6 times a week. Boas & osher great guys and serve excellently The food is delicious and the place very clean and small good. As the only kosher place in San Diego the price fair enough. If you cheap and don’t like Jewish Israeli atmosphere go to eat jack in the box. If you happy person, small good and love the life, this is the place to come and eat. It’s kosher, tasty and healthy. Thank you boaz for being here for us

So I’ve discovered this place recently because we have a couple doctors that are very into kosher food. They’re always very friendly and helpful. Whenever I need to order kosher food for my doctors I enjoy getting the chicken sandwich with salad. Their chicken salad is so good and very satisfying. Can’t wait to go back here again!

This is a very small, «intimate» café setting inside the JCC. Excellent Israeli food and a few other things. The shwarma and felafel sandwiches are great.

We just got back from sea world and these guys were so nice because they stayed open late and they were not rushing us at all

It’s alright. For me, the prices are too high and the portion sizes are not really generous. The food tasted great but it’s not memorable. Don’t worry folks, 3 stars doesn’t mean this restaurant is bad, it means«A-OK» which is what I generally think of this restaurant. It’s a nice and clean looking restaurant situated inside the Jewish Community Center of San Diego. I give props to this restaurant for serving kosher food, something that’s not too common. Other than that, it’s alright

Really awesome experience and amazing kosher food, had a double burger with grilled onions and a spicy shakshuka, I am so full and happy! Generous portions, reasonable prices and very kind service with a smile. Very family friendly and warm hearted staff. Osher was so accommodating and pleasant and the food was awesome. One of the best if not the best in San Diego!!!

great place, great food, not fancy but for kosher and good quality this is one of the best places in town. they are open to accommodate. the guy at counter is Israeli and a real pleasure to be served by. they also cater shabbat meals and other ocassions. as an out of town person I rank this the best.

Clean, friendly, quiet. Good place to have lunch. My friend only eats Kosher. I eat everything. We had been meeting at another kosher food place for the last few months, but the quality was not good. I decided to check Unilocal for something better. This place did not disappoint. I had the shawarma pita and a drink. It was good. True kosher is very scarce in San Diego, so this place should survive long term. The location is partly to thank for that, but it seems smart business. Give it a try and skip their competitor bit further South in Clairemont.

Great place! Israeli food never tasted that great for me – I always preferred typical American dining. However The Place has truly renewed my appetite for Israeli food. The dishes are well seasoned and served with a smile – (if you’re lucky Boaz, the owner, himself will serve you). I can’t get enough of this restaurant and will keep going back!
