awhile ago i ordered takeout from india express. the food they had looked good enough to eat and i ordered some samosas but they everything tasted terrible. whoever was the cook kept staring at me for some reason and was responsible for making the samosas and they were really greasy. i’ve ate here before and the food was great for cheap stuff but this was the last time i went here. hopefully they’ve cleaned this place up since i was here.

I can’t place my finger on it exactly, but while Grossmont mall is pretty nice, the food court seems to be somewhat of a failed experiment. Incidentally a Phodelicious just opened up and has some great boba. Other than that and a wetzels pretzels, there is literally nothing worth mentioning. Never heard of any of these other places.

Can we say FACELIFT. I was weirded out by this vintage food court. However, it seems like there are some legitimate restaurants in here, but it was pretty much ghost and I’m sure it is b/c of the look of this place. I guess Grossmont is suffering to keep up with the«mall» trend, oddly its mostly why I like it — its chill. Hopefully they can update a few things and rebuild this place for a more pleasurable experience.

It’s an A-OK food court, no better than three stars. Finally, there is some ethnic diversity in the food offered at the GC food court. And yes, there is outdoor seating, good most of the year in La Mesa. But I would much rather dine else where at, say, Rubio’s, BJ’s, or Casa de Pico Maybe it’s the lighting, the color scheme, the furniture, maybe the location, but something about this food court is mildly depressing to me. I have tried to figure it out, and if and when that little light bulb lights up above my head, I’ll update this review. Incidentally, I generally like the food courts in other malls.

We are so lucky to have such a diverse food court nearby. This one is great. Instead of being filled with your typical fast food establishments like JB’s, McD’s, Pizza Hut, Subway, etc. we have India Express, Greek Gyros II, Dante’s Italian, Maui Express Hawaiian, Villa’s Mexican, Chang’s Asian, the Candy Shop, and BFF Hamburgers and Fish. I’ve tried most of them and while I have my favorites, all are good. My personal favs are the Pulled Pork and rice at Maui, Greek style chicken at Greek Gyros, pasta dishes at Dantes, hamburger patties at BFF, though their fish is surprisingly good too, the coffee at the candy shop($ 1.50 for a 24 Oz cup!?), and EVERYTHING at the India Express. This has become sort of a default eating out place for my H and me. If we can’t decide where to go for a light lunch or dinner, we come here, knowing we will both find something we like with all this variety to choose from. I don’t think we have ever been disappointed. I’ve also noticed it is a popular place for not only for shoppers and individuals to eat at, but a lot of groups have gatherings here, including a knitting group I enjoy attending that meets here twice month. That’s how I found out how good the coffee at the candy shop is. Also, kudos to them for hiring the developmentally disabled. They are as friendly and helpful as can be.
