I was excited to hear about a new Halal restaurant in San Diego that offered a wide variety of food, especially since it offered halal mexican food. I was very disappointed. First off… The Food: I ordered a California burrito. I don’t know if it was just this item on the menu or maybe it would have been the same no matter what mexican dish I ordered but I don’t think these people know how to make mexican food. I ordered a California burrito and honestly I’ve had better bean burritos from taco bell. The chicken in the burrito was chewy and hard, the fries in the burrito were not crispy and the sauce that was used tasted bland. I also ordered a vanilla milkshake and while there isn’t much to complain about, it was a very simple shake that tasted like a cheap shake from a fast food. Also it was very small for the price. I don’t even know what my parents ordered. Some sort of African dish with a huge round piece of bread that you dipped in a mix of lentils and beef. Whatever it was the bread was sour and cold. The Service: This was the only thing worse than the food. I walked in and the guy working the register doesn’t greet me or seat me. After a few seconds I ask if I should seat myself. He says yes, so I do. After sitting for about 5 minutes waiting for him to bring me a menu I get up and ask him and he tells me I order at the front. I don’t understand how this guy can let someone just walk in and sit at a table and not tell them they order up front. Anyways he finally takes our order and forgets to bring us the waters we ask for. About 15 minutes in we get our first item, my milkshake. We also ordered appetizers(onion rings) to tide us over until the food was ready. After all that is what appetizers are for. The appetizers took about 20 minutes. The whole point of appetizers is so that you have something quick while you wait. This was crazy, especially when there was only one other table of people there(4 people) and they had already finished ordering before I even walked in.

I went there today after finding it on Unilocal but found it empty and for lease. I was very disappointed since I was happy to discover an East African Café so near to me. The pictures in the listing looked so good I was anxious to try it out! We ended up at Garden Fresh further down El Cajon Blvd. instead and had a delicious meal.

It’s very hard to find a place that sells halal American and Mexican food in San Diego, so I eat at Grubbz quite often. I absolutely love their mushroom swiss burger and eat it atleast once a week. The food does take a little while to get ready, but I always call in my order and make sure it’s ready when I get there.

Horrible food, it wasn’t appetizing at all. Definitely the worst restaurant I’ve ever eaten at

Good food… bad service So I called them around noon to ask about the hours and whoever answered told me that they woukd be open from 4 – 9 and I arrived at 8 and they were«closed for construction» I only come to san diego once in while and I know that this place has good halal food but I was angry at this type of service and on top of that they are closed on monday and Tuesday and this was on Wednesday and it was the last day of my trip

I like this place. It serves halal food, but it’s not so cheap. I usually only come here for the shakes. Oreo to be exact. The employees are nice, the environment has a good family feel, but the food is the problem. They have a great sounding menu, but they sort’ve miss it with the execution, The portions they give out are too large. I’d say this place is perfect for a Muslim bachelor looking for a halal meal in a jumbo size.

I was in town this weekend and a friend recommended this place to me so I decided to try it out, and I must say it was pretty darn good, I had the carne asada burrito and we also ordered wings. The burrito was really good and was really big which was nice. They ran out of wings but offered us chicken strips instead… which we weren’t too sure about but they were good too nothing like other chicken strips I have had. It’s also cool how they offer Mexican, American, and Eritrean foods all halal.

I had the Jalapeño burger and I have to say it was huge and flavorful. The portions of fries is huge too. The burger Patti was was so juicy that I had the left over burger the next day and it was still so tasty. The only downside to the place is that its too far and kind of hidden(hidden gem). I’m disappointed to find out that they have to limit their operations for Fri-Sun only. I would prefer this joint over any of the famous chain burger places you see that serve quantity vs quality.

I’m always apprehensive toward restaurants with few reviewers that have very few reviews. This place is pretty good! The cashier was nice, but it took quite a while to get my food once I ordered it. I ordered the 3 piece chicken strip combo. I’m not sure where they buy their chicken strips, but they were monstrous! The fries were normal, skinny McDs style fries. The combo came with a can of soda and a tub of ketchup and dressing – not the normal condiment tub, the next size up. More sauce than I could even make a dent in! I felt safe there during the day, but not the best neighborhood once the sun sets.

Phili cheese steak and burgers are really good. portion are big, especially when it comes to fries. These guys like to give out a whole lotta fries with their combos. greasy, unhealthy food, but it tastes real good. And probably the only zabihah option in San Diego where you can get halal Phili cheese steaks and carne asada. the Eriterian food is good too. I tried the spicy chicken kulwa… very flavorful and not too spicy.

Some amazing 100% Zabiha Mexican food. Highly recommend the carne asada fries!
