Newman Optometry

I found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it out since it is minutes from my house. Angela is the person that greets you as you walk in, and she’s all business at first. She takes your insurance and collects new patient paperwork, then takes you into the exam room to do the initial testing.
I started off with a test where you push a button when you see lines squiggle on the screen. I aced the right eye, but not so good on the left. Not that that is important, but Angela told me to relax, there isn’t a pass or fail with this test. As a teacher, that was music to my ears. Angela’s clear, step-​by-​step instruction, was awesome. She’s very articulate and reassuring.
Now, Dr. Newman is a cool dude. Quick and easy exam. No funny business. I like that. Love good bedside manner, but really love efficiency.
I’ve been to many optometrists, and they always try to put me into new contract lenses. I have been using Accuvue 2 for 15 years, and they are perfect for me. Why change what works? He ordered Accuvue for me and didn’t pressure me into anything else. LOVE THAT!!!
I highly recommend meeting this team as they are really top notch and professional.

Dr. Newman’s office is by far the best optometrist I’ve been to. Either though I’m not a patient here, I still felt like I was treated as one of their own. My boyfriend has been going here for the past 5 years and they are great! the receptionist is always very nice and welcoming.

Dr. Newman has been my family’s optometrist for over ten years now. I truly cannot praise his office highly enough. After seeing a friend’s costly and time-​consuming experience with the error-​prone optical department at Costco (La Mesa), I was reminded just how much I appreciate Dr. Newman and Angela. They are professional, caring and provide top-​notch customer service. I can’t imagine going elsewhere for eye exams and to get my prescriptions filled. I do tend to buy my frames elsewhere, though I did find great sunglasses at Dr. Newman’s. He uses an excellent lab and I have had no problem bringing the new frames to Dr. Newman for lenses. Another plus is that he is very patient with kids and teens. Angela, the front office person and optical tech, is very professional and pays wonderful attention to detail. One of my favorite La Mesa businesses.

I searched Unilocal for the places that would accept VSP and Dr. Newman came up. I came in just for glasses, and everyone was very helpful. I got my glasses within a week. The Saturday hours were a deciding factor, as well.

I have always been about supporting small businesses and staying away from chains. Dr. Newman’s office reinforces all of the reasons I do this.
I’ve been going to Dr. Newman’s office for about eight years now. Year after year, and an occasional visit in between have all been wonderful and most importantly consistent.
Dr. Newman and Angela have always been very thorough with the exam and testing, and very professional.
I’ve ordered several different frames over the years and have always been happy with my selection as well as Angela’s attention when selecting among so many frames.
I recommend this office to anyone looking for personal and great service!

I had a major vision problem due to my glasses breaking. I figured I could live with out them for a while but on one lovely day I had to drive to Lake Murray for a work picnic, and for a drive that should have taken me 22 minutes took me about an hour and some change. I realized then that something needed to be done.
I was armed with my glasses prescription so nothing was going to stop me from completing my mission to see. I went about a half mile down the road and saw the Optometry sign, I whipped in to the parking lot and to my surprise they were open… on the first try, really what are the odds of that happening on a Saturday? well obviously pretty good for me.
Okay back to the task at hand. I walk in and the women working at the counter was very beautiful eyes you could totally get lost in.them. Yup anyways she was glad to help me. She started off by asking me what my price range was to which I responded to one hundred and eighty dollars and boom she started handing me glasses to try on. There was so much to choose from and I have to be honest other offices are trying to sell all the extras trying to get all the money they can out of you, but that was not the case here and the total spent was one hundred seventy dollars.
I could see here that they really want to save their clients money and just give them the gift of sight. I know that sounds corny but for those who have experienced walking around with out their glasses or contacts seeing everything in a blur know that that crap sucks big time.
Well I got my glasses and I got them seven days later in the mail, so if I would have picked them up at the office I would have had them in five days, so they are quick about it, unlike my vision provider Kaiser who told me it would take up to three weeks (BOOOOO!!!)
I love my new glasses. I have been walking around seeing the world in SD and now I see everything in HD

I came here a few weeks ago to get new glasses and contacts. I originally choose this office because it was across the street for my house. At first glance, this office is clean and inviting. When I got there the receptionist (On Monday it is Dr. Newman’s wife) handed me all the paper work and I got started on that while she called my insurance to verify everything. I had told her that I wanted contacts and new glasses and she was able to work the insurance to get me a good price. This is something I ALWAYS appreciate because I never have any clue how to get the prices right for me.
After that was settled, Dr. Newman took me back for my exam. Very professional and courteous.
I came back a week later to pick up my contacts and glasses and have «contact training.» Again the office was inviting and the staff was extremely friendly.
The office I went to before this was a totally different experience. I felt the staff was rude and has no intention of saving me any money.
I will always come back to Dr. Newman and will refer him to everyone!
