Drove by the other day and noticed that this place wasn’t open anymore. Totally not surprised and it gave Shakey’s pizza a bad reputation be cause it lacked the true feeling and expectations of Shakey’s by far. Not happy it closed but unhappy it’s management didn’t change it to what true Shakeys are supposed to be.

Stopped by here a couple days ago for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The lunch buffet goes until 230 so we did that. For my wife, me and one soda it was less than $ 20. Can’t beat it. Next question was the food. They had about 5 different pizzas, spaghetti, garlic bread, and a salad bar. everything was really good. Great place to stop by for lunch if you find yourself at grossmont, and obviously kid friendly. Be prepared to bust out the quarters for all the arcades.

When I look and see that I have never reviewed a place that I enjoy it as much as this Shakeys I feel like such an irresponsible, lazy reviewer and I’m embarrassed. I don’t go to pizza places much and I don’t like chains much but this place has turned out to be a favorite. The thing that sold me on it the most was their fried chicken. I grew up eating fried chicken fixed the Midwest way and for many years I rarely ordered fried chicken in restaurants because it would be too dry or overdone to suit me. Shakeys fried chicken was so reasonably priced I decided to try it out one day and it was just perfect! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, not too greasy, no funny flavors of old grease or anything, I loved it. It was so nice to find a place that was close and reasonable and has such a good product. The price hasn’t gone up since I first ordered it, so far. It runs $ 7.95 for a 4 piece meal that includes a pile of those NoJo potatoes and while not on the menu, they will make you a half order of just two pieces for $ 4.95. The NoJo potatoes are also delicious, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with good flavor and the ranch dressing you can get to dip them in is some of the best I’ve had. It tastes homemade, not like some bottled mix. Because I like to be honest, even about places I love, I went in once for the lunch buffet, which is very reasonably priced at about eight dollars and while there was nothing wrong with the salad I found the pizza to be just adequate and ended up wanting to eat fried chicken with salad instead. With the buffet you can’t take home any leftovers so I actually do better if I want leftovers, to get the four piece meal and take half of it home . The last time my husband and I went there was because I had seen a sign on the window for a garlic shrimp pizza for $ 12.99 that sounded potentially good. I suggested to him that we get a four piece meal and a pizza and split both with probable leftovers. The pizza was absolutely delicious. We both loved it so much we had a hard time holding back and didn’t end up taking home as much leftovers as we expected! My husband told me that was a great idea and that we should go back and have it again sometime but we haven’t made it back yet. I have always found the place to be clean and the service to be excellent. The couple that own the place run it as friendly as any Mom and Pop restaurant might be. The chicken can sometimes take awhile to fix but that’s what makes it so fresh and good tasting so it’s worth the wait. The owners are always very nice and seem to remember me from visit to visit even if it’s been awhile. I always pay them compliments on how good everything is. As long as the chicken is good and the owners are friendly, I’ll keep coming back!

Went during lunch hour when it was slow on Sunday. Food was good and fresh… the games were cool! Great place to take some kids to let loose for a while and not too expensive.

Overall our experience was ok. The place it’s self looks like it has a lot of potential. I had so many great memories of Shakey’s as a kid and I wanted my daughter to have the same. I took my daughter on her birthday on a Friday night for a fun small dinner of just my boyfriend, her and I. The place is big but I think there was only five families there, including ours. The food was good but expensive for the small amount we ordered. The staff was nice but I think the owner doesn’t really know what he is doing. Some games were fun but the majority of them were old and worn out, a few were torn/broken and out of service. I think in the future I will just take her to the one I grew up going to, the one in Anaheim.

Salad was not fresh!!! Smelt like old ass crusty socks. Soggy and brown. Just gross … On a brighter note this is why not 1star only the Mojo’s were okay and the chicken was greasy and small… I’ve been to several locations this one just sucks !!

Shakey’s is a total throwback to my childhood, in Simi Valley we used to have one and when I played well in a sports game or did well in school my family would take us to Shakey’s to eat the buffet and play games. I forgot how great the fresh fried chicken was! Definitely still a fan of Shakey’s as an adult and enjoy the lunch buffet when I can make the time slot.

Good food, better than chucky cheesy. Normally alota elbow room. They always give your money back when their game takes your money. Honcho is a stiffler but moma son brings him back to reality. Safe and great for kids to run around while adults drink their pitchers of beer. I wish the managers here the best of luck and will be back for some more sports team parties.

Ughhh I dislike this location/franchise!!They don’t accept shakey’s gift cards! The owner is so cheap, he literally counts the mojo potatoes as they come out the oven. The salad bar is a joke, the buffet is basically wait for your order type of service. Not because the cooks are slow but by owners control. The owners even took out happy hour of the menu! They have out dates credit card machines, they dont accept American express!(According to the little white haired asian man) the machine doesn’t accept it? But the staff are nice. lol I love shakeys pizza, but just going to the chula vista location from now on…

Come on you remember Shakeys, the place with the pizza buffet! yeah it is hardly the best pizza you’ve ever had, but they do have plenty of varieties. Throw in the juicy fried chicken, and the spaghetti, now it’s a party. Bring the kids, let them wear themselves out on the games by using your pocket change, while you enjoy the space placed between the seating and the arcade… yeah buddy. When you’re done, get your shopping fix at the mall. Golden! I just wish they still had the styrofoam straw hats… remember those?!

Went here for lunch since I was hungry. My daughter loves coming here. We had the buffet which consists of different kinds of food like pizza, chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, a salad bar & a soda fountain. Food is average, and good enough to eat. There’s also games & rides for the kids. We normally go to the Shakey’s in Chula Vista. They didn’t even hand out extra plates or clear our table. Service is not that great since they don’t pay attention.

Probably the worst buffet I have ever seen. Cold pizza. Some kind of sad salad bar with cheap lettuce and a couple toppings. Extra cheap croutons, beets and some sour cucumbers. No condiments to be found, no salt, pepper or ketchup. And overall rather gross all around

I went there thinking the food would taste how shakey’s tastes but no, this food is garbage. Bad customer service. They’re idiots.

WHEN I WENT: Sunday at 5:30PM. Left around 7:00PM. Parking lot was somewhat crowded, but I was able to find a spot within a couple of minutes. The restaurant itself was empty. A large party had just finished up, and only about 3 families, including mine, were left. WHAT I ATE: Medium Pizza(half Pepperoni, half plain cheese) and large order of Mojo potatoes(total ~$ 18). Probably would have been more cost-effective to get the Family Meal Deal which I believe is around $ 23, comes with med pizza, Mojo potatoes, and fried chicken. Food came out hot and quick. Tokens cost $ 0.25 per token and the games range from 1 to 3 tokens. I purchased $ 15 worth of tokens and was able to keep two kids busy for about an hour. OVERALLIMPRESSIONS : PROS– For older kids, it is better than Chuck E. Cheese’s because the games are geared for older kids. Probably not as fun for the younger ones. Pizza is decent. My kids thought the pizza there is WAY better than ChuckE’s. Maybe. Mojo Potatoes are always a hit. Always pipin’ hot and thick slices. Less crowded that ChuckE’s. I hate crowds. Thus I hate ChuckE’s. Here you can sit and keep and eye on the kids, without all the craziness and noise you usually experience at ChuckE’s on the weekend. Kids thought the prizes they could get with their tickets were way better than at ChuckE’s. Nice people working there. CONS — The salad bar is lacking. I wanted a salad, but after looking at the salad bar, I passed on it. Not a great selection of items. When I was there, the restroom was not the cleanest. With papertowels on the counter and floor. And the stall door not locking. I thought some of the games were overpriced and required too many tokens. I will definitely go back. My kids had a lot of fun and I got to sit and relax while they did their thing. They will probably outgrow it in a couple of years., so I’ll take advantage while they’re still interested.

I took my ten year old niece here for the lunch buffet. It was pretty pricey and the salad bar costs an additional $ 2 on top of the buffet price! I had a couple of slices of pizza and some chicken. The pizza was pretty bland and tasteless and looked dried out by the heat lamps. The chicken was just okay but I’ve had much better. My niece had some spaghetti and she said it wasn’t good at all and we both ended up not really finishing our lunch. I had an equal experience here a couple of years ago by myself and was hoping it was just an off lunch day. At least the sodas tasted good. Won’t be back.

I give shakeys four stars because my kids love it here so much. We order the buffet and the buffet has an impressive amount of food. There’s a salad bar, they put out like 5 different q pizzas, there’s fried chicken(all dark meat), they have their famous mojoes fries, mash potatoes with gravy, plus spaghetti and garlic bread. The prices are very reasonable and the service was great. The kids and I will be returning for sure !

Love this location, my favorite shakey’s besides my childhood one in Riverside. The buffet is great, big selection and they always have a fresh pizza or two coming out. The buffet is only from 11 – 2 unfortunately, but I still love it. It’s pretty cheap!

My roommate suggested coming here since she was craving Shakey’s and couldn’t believe I had never had it before. I didn’t expect much when I came in. Their pizza is okay, nothing over the top but better than Pizza Hut or something like that. We also ordered some mojo potatoes. The first batch that came out were still raw in the middle so we asked for them to cook them a little longer. The lady who brought out our second batched seemed to lack common sense. Instead of going towards the side of the room who were sitting, waiting for their foods, she decided to go to the other side of the restaurant with the potatoes asking the huge family party if they ordered it(really?). Service seemed a little slow for the lack of customers they had. If it wasn’t for their super slow service I would have maybe given this place 3 stars, or 2.5.

Wanting to steer away from Chuck E. Cheese and Peter Piper, I chose to have my son’s birthday party here. Pretty bold on my part because I had never been to a Shakey’s. Right away I could tell it was a wise decision. The staff was very attentive from the moment I called to reserve a table. Everything was perfect, I got the package for 30; it came with drinks, tokens, pizzas and their well known chicken and Mojo potatoes, they were a big hit. The play area is very small, which I prefer, so I could keep my eyes on the little ones. Aside from buying the cake, some additional tokens and some beer, the package included everything I needed, and didn’t have to clean up afterwards. It’s a great spot for a birthday or team party. Another birthday party down, twelve to go. :( *apparently they have a great AYCE lunch special.
