This place is out of business. It was replaced by Cream and Sugar, which is a sandwich/coffee shop(and a pretty good one at that).

I’ve been looking for brunch places in my area & ran across this place. I’ve been here several times now. I got the Azucar Torta all 3 times(I think). I got the Bionicos once. The torta was decent sized, healthy, clean, & tasty. I like torta’s period. Mexican sandwiches are the bomb! Bionicos is the item that stands out the most though. It’s a fruit bowl with a light homemade cream sauce & crunchy granola’s. It’s definitely worth trying. Azucar means«sugar» in Spanish. This place is positively a natural sweetener to La Mirada. Way to go Azucar!

Definitely closed. Now a new owner called Cream and Sugar. Did order blended iced coffee. Very good. They said they will be selling sandwiches and pastries. Very friendly.

I came here for the large green juice. It sounded healthy with parsley spinach, etc. I was surprised to see the server only include 12 oz of green veg juice and 20oz of pineapple/grapefruit juice. I wasn’t looking for an overly sweet drink. Dislike. Don’t come here for healthy drinks. It’s pointless.

Nice place to study. Lots of plugs, fast wifi, and lots of room. too bad they close early. i’ll try to come back on a weekend. The torta is nice. It’s really just a sandwich with a toasted bun. The owners are great. They gave me a free juice. I think it’s cantaloupe. Will be getting the bionico to go.

So I was really really excited to eat here with my friend because I love mom & pop type shops. We met up for brunch on a Saturday ready to grub out. I ordered the chorizo torta because I love me some ‘rizo and he got the bacon torta. We both ordered juices. They were nice enough to sub out the carrot for orange for me since I’m allergic to carrots. All was going well, we paid and sat down. Our tortas came with a side of fruit, which I couldn’t eat since I’m ALSO allergic(le sigh) so I handed that off to my friend. I wasn’t paying attention as I started eating because my friend and I were chattering away but a few bites in I realized there was no real substance to the torta. The torta bread was good, however, the chorizo/egg piece was ridiculously flat. The size of the actual torta itself is large in width but the filling inside was not at all. It tasted good but I was still hungry after eating my torta and drinking my juice. In fact, we both were starving because my friend’s torta also had very little filling. I know I eat a lot but at the prices we paid, I expected to at least feel my hunger pangs go away. Sadly, my stomach was still unsatisfied. Luckily, I went to a catered event an hour or two after so I was able to pig out to my stomach’s content :) 3 stars — Good food but I left still hungry! The people are nice but I would only come back if I just wanted a snack to tide me over to the next meal.

The food was good, I ordered the breakfast Torta which tasted pretty clean(not greasy). The place is small, intimate, not good for families though.

There are a lot of five-star reviews for this joint, so I had to check it out. Breakfast tortas? Why haven’t I been here before? It’s right around the corner from my house, so I was even more ticked that I hadn’t heard about it!!! Now, when they say breakfast tortas(plural), they actually only have two– ham or bacon. Is that bad thing? Not really, it just makes your decision making a little bit easier. I would have however wanted wanted a couple more options, but I went with what I was offered. The boy and I decided to each choose a different one to see if there was a significant difference. Not really, just a preference. I’m typically not a ham type of guy, so I immediately went the bacon route. As stated in other reviews, the bread is fresh and fluffy. The eggs are cooked beautifully and the bacon was crispy, but not burnt. Great job Azucar. Your meal comes with a side of fresh fruit, which was delicious. If you’re in a hurry, I would maybe try and avoid this place. Because it’s a small operation, the food is a little slow to come to your table. That’s okay– you know it’s being made fresh and not coming down an assembly line within a two-minute time-frame. With that being said, it was worth the wait and I will be back to try to some the lunch options that they have available. Unilocalers commended the service from behind the counter as it should be brought into the spotlight. The workers were more than accommodating and happy to answer any questions that patrons might have had. They have a fairly large juice selection, something that would be awesome for hot days or after an intense workout. I think I might go that route next time. If you want a cheap, tasty and fresh meal, I would definitely make a stop to this small café!

Stopped in today for a late lunch and had a turkey bacon torta(with tomato and avocado), with fresh homemade potato salad and fresh fruit. I also had the Triple Berry(fresh raspberries, blueberries and strawberries) smoothie. The smoothie was huge. It had a vanilla base that somewhat overwhelmed the berry flavor, but it was certainly unique and delicious! Real nice people behind the counter. It’s a bakery, too, so the bread is good and fresh. Yum!

This place is amazing for breakfast! Breakfast torta comes with eggs, avocado and chorizo, fruits on the side; the relax fruit juice was 100% fruit juice that comes with blueberries and watermelon sweetened with apple juice. No sugar at all! Service is great. Friendly, helpful workers!

Hehe, the four stars are for their service, the quaint atmosphere, and the tuna torta. ****BIOLASTUDENTS — you get 10% off! We walked in to this nice little café in a plaza located on the cross street of Imperial and La Mirada, not particularly looking for anything specific. We were slightly confused on what to order but quickly decided. I ordered the Tuna Torta and the tuna was well seasoned and mixed with not too much mayo and whatever else they put in it. The bread was really delicious though, homemade? Maybe. Inside there was onion, avocado, lettuce, the meat of your choice, tomatoes and provolone cheese. YUM. Those are the ingredients that make a sandwich delicious. Heh. On the side, they also gave us a bowl of cut fruit. Because we were there for the first time, the two waitresses/workers gave us some samples of their smoothie and dessert dish. Pretty good! If I went to Biola, maybe I would go every once in a while! Definitely worth it with the sandwiches though. The ladies there were very sweet, that I MUST inform you of(: So very kind people. So next time, you’re in the area… craving a sandwich/torta or a smoothie of some sort, check it out!

Azucar Café, wow 5 stars! I went in with high expectations. Was not sure what to order because I read on Unilocal that there were tortas. Kind of disappointed, that there are only five types of tortas: Bacon?, Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, and Tuna. Ordered Roast beef and Turkey. I’ve had several awesome sandwiches before. Cook’s Tortas blows this place out of the water. They have over 25 types of tortas to order from at any given time. Having such a small menu available for tortas was a huge let down. No carne asada? NOCARNEASADA? Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh! I guess they really don’t have a regular kitchen for hot foods, but that means that the five sandwiches better be the best sandwiches. The tortas/sandwiches were okay. For the money I was expecting more. There may have been 3 – 4 slices of lunch meat in each sandwich. Bread had a nice fluffy texture, but there was hardly any fillings outside of a lot of lettuce. The tomato was so skinny, I thought it was anorexic and the avocado was almost non existent! Why put in the torta if it is less than a tablespoon. If $ 4.99 is too cheap for a torta, then increase the price and don’t skimp on fillings so that patrons will feel they are getting value for their money. I should have went to Subway for a foot long for $ 5. I love sandwiches, but these tortas seem to be a very Americanized torta, that has all the Mexican roots sucked out of it. At the end of the day, sandwiches can make or break your place, especially if it is the only real food you are serving. Look at Cook’s, Phillipe’s, or even the Hat’s pastrami as prime sandwiches that can make a place. To be fair, I did not have a liquado, a raspada, or bionico and these items may be awesome, but for lunch I will go somewhere else. Azucar, has a lot of potential, but did not bring home the sweetness.

This place is a must-go for anyone in the area! Service is amazing! The owner will literally stop everything just to talk to you and describe the different items on the menu to you. Food is definitely worth the price and more. Things to order: Bionicos Tuna Salad Torta Any Aguas Frescas

A gem in La Mirada. This quaint little café isn’t that common in a world of corporate, high priced, cookie cutter chains. At Azucar café you get treated like family. This café has a nice feel to it. It’s comfortable, clean, and a great place to relax or study. It’s located on La Mirada blvd, it’s major cross street being Imperial blvd. The owner, Letty, is such a nice person! She makes it a point to make sure you are happy with your order and she has no problem customizing items for you. Everything is made fresh to order here. They really emphasize freshness here. As for what’s on the menu, they have quite an array of delicious and delectable smoothies and juices. They also have breakfast and lunch menus which contain an assortment of tortas, sweet bread, tostadas, and spectacular salads. As for treats they have bionicos, fruit cups, corn on the cob and cups of corn(both are served with mayo, cheese, and chili). I definitely recommend this place. This is my first review on Unilocal.I never felt the need to go online and review a place, that’s how good this place is. I ordered a watermelon agua fresca, piña colada smoothie, bacon torta, and a spicy fruit cup. It was so delicious. I tried to save my watermelon drink till I got home, but I finished it before I did(I live 10 minutes away, that should tell you something!). Great place, great owner/service, and the freshest fruits around. A great place to visit for refreshing treats and fresh meals. I wi definitely be coming back to try other items off the menu. Five stars.

Quick Tip: It’s on the far end of the small Stater Bros parking lot. It was a bit hard to find. PROs: Agua Frescas are good. Staff is EXTREMELY kind. She also was very open to making things that weren’t even on the menu! I got an Oreo Cookie Shake… was pretty good. :D Great study spot. CONs: It can get a bit warm in there… :/Other than that, its perfect!

I am embarrassed to say that we moved to La Mirada about 9 months ago and JUST came into this café for the first time. We literally walked here. Initially, we had wanted to try the crêpe place, but it ended up shutting down before we had the opportunity to do so. This time, we decided to venture out and explore our own neighborhood, in hopes of finding a hidden jewel. Just as «FRIENDS» has Central Perk and«How I Met Your Mother» has McLarens, I think we’ve found our local go-to hangout spot! Like any good Unilocal-er, I did my research prior to stepping into this café, and decided on ordering a Bionico. I would say I’m somewhat cultured when it comes to Mexican food, but I was thinking, «what exactly IS a Bionico??» I decided the only way to find out was to try one. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sign inside that read«Corn on a Cob with mayo, parmesan, butter.» I remembered having one of these at my friend’s baby shower and they were ah-maz-ing to say the least. The Hubby and I each ordered one of those, as well as their highly-spoken of tortas. The owner, Letty(sp?), recommended the tuna, which is made fresh, not canned(already a plus in my mind). She was super friendly, patient and accommodating. This is the reason why I love coming to mom-n-pops as opposed to the typical cold & generic chains. The corn was ready first and it was pretty tasty, not exactly the same style as the one we’ve tried from the corn vendor at the party, but still good. The torta came next and the bread was lightly toasted and fluffy. The greens inside were fresh and the tuna was mixed with mayo and parsley. After taking a bite, I decided I would be back to try the other tortas. It also came with a small bowl of fresh fruit, the good kind(not just melons)! My absolute favorite was the Bionico. Sliced strawberries, bananas, grapes, apples, cantaloupes, raisins, coconut flakes and fresh crunchy granola. They soak in a light sweet cream sauce that the owner said was made fresh from scratch. This would also make a fresh and delicious breakfast! I asked Letty what«Bionico» meant and she told me this fruit dessert comes from Guadalajara and the word literally means«energy.» Sounds good enough to me! I am definitely coming back for the tortas & Bionicos. I would also like to try the coffee, since they use quality ingredients(they also serve a fusion of loose leaf teas), I don’t doubt that it would be anything less than awesome.

I must admit that I was actually bitter when I first saw that the place next to Hong Kong Express had become«Azucar Café.» I immediately thought«WHATNOMORECREPEPLACE? LESIGH.» It’s bad enough that they closed Genki Living in Irvine and Crepes & Pasta in Cerritos, but now the crêpe place down the street from me? fail. However, after reading some positive reviews here on Unilocal,I gave this place a shot and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. If you’ve been to the crêpe place, the look of Azucar Café won’t be anything new to you. It’s still very vibrant with lots of color throughout the café. The owner in one word is a total«sweetheart.» She comes off as a very amiable and caring individual who makes an effort to have a conversation with each one of her customers. I’m happy to be considered a «regular» here now. Now while the selling point of Azucar Café is its beverages, I come here for the food, particularly the tortas that are served with fresh fruit. You have your choice of Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, or Tuna for the lunch torta. There is also a breakfast one that has egg and ham I believe. I usually get a Turkey or Roast Beef torta with everything which includes avocado slices at no extra charge. What really makes the tortas great here though is the home-made bread. The bread at Azucar Café is delicious to say the least. It’s got a nice subtle buttery taste to it and it really goes well with all the other ingredients. Try to eat your tortas right away so the bread is as fresh as possible! I also enjoy their freshly made tamales. While my mom prefers their pineapple ones, I prefer the Salsa and cheese. It’s a delectably gooey bite with the melted cheese and salsa verde. If you’re looking for a meatier tamale, they also have pork and chicken ones. I believe you can get a dozen for $ 15. The juices are also very tasty. They always have two juices freshly prepared so I usually go with one of those two rather than ordering a customized drink. I have had their strawberry, horchata, and cataloupe juices. I’ve enjoyed each one of them, especially the cantaloupe juice because it reminds me of the Filipino drink Melon Juice. A lunch torta + one of the daily prepared juices will run you about $ 7. Not bad considering you get a cup of fresh fruits with the torta. Everything about Azucar Café’s menu is FRESH. The food and juices are home-made and you don’t have to worry about additives and unhealthy preservatives. I really hope this place makes it because La Mirada needs a good mom and pop place like this. I only wish they added more meats to their torta menu like carne asada, carnitas, etc but I’m sure it’s a business/financial decision. To all my La Mirada Unilocalers, please give this endearing place a chance!

This place is awesome. We have eaten here many times in the couple months that is has been open. We happened onto it by mistake, we went to Hong Kong Express next door(which is another review) and saw Azucar. So we popped in to see what was going on. We were talking with owner and she was explaining everything to us, then to my shock she hands each of us a small bionico, which is fruit and a sweet cream like treat with some granola on top. OMG this stuff is beyond AMAZING!!! I ate all of it, which is amazing in itself as some of the fruits were things that I do not normally eat, like cantaloupe. Needless to say, we went back again and again, and hopefully they will survive, unlike all the previous businesses in that space. We never did make it to the crêpe place that was there before.
