Oysters Rockefeller was visually unappealing and not very tasty. The other oyster appetizers were delicious. Gumbo and lamb chops were good. No baked Alaska available. We had trouble getting waited on. There were 14 of us – all on separate expense accounts needing original receipts. We were told«the machine» could only accept 8 credit cards. We spent the next 30 minutes having to manually figure out the bill. Really? The lack of technology in this day and age is pitiful and ruined the end of the meal. My experience here? Lukewarm.

Had dinner last night, thursday prior to Marti Grau. …in town with conference… federal and state leadership… had party of 16… service was good, food good… then bill arrived and waiter said can only accept 4 credit cards… and can’t seperate the billings… as we each, couple, work for federal/state orgs that expect detailed reciepts. As you can imagine. It took more time for our party to sort the bill then to enjoy dinner. Will NEVER recommend this fine restaurant… no upscale restaurant at this location during Marti Grau should ever put a party of 5+ people through this bull shit… on the bill. Our total bill with tip was over $ 1900 dollars and it’s the last time these agencies will EVER go back to this bull ship location . Believe me… we will get the word out. Chris

I went with a friend to give the Winter Special a try and all of it was perfect. As an appetizer I had the salad and my friend had the various errrsters(oysters.) For the main we both had a perfect little steak filet, and then I had the bread pudding for dessert. Seriously it was all good and the 25 cent martinis were pretty damn good too. Of course the place is beautiful and it’s nice to sit in there and our server Richard was really nice and even read my mind when I couldn’t spit out the words«medium rare.» Waiting to sit down it’s always good to have a drink at the Hermes Bar. Thanks, guys!

Save your money and go somewhere else. Everything here is extremely overpriced. Food quality is is worst than anything I’ve ever had. Definitely don’t get the Oysters Rockefeller. It tasted like something they pulled out of the kitchen sink disposal.

Antoine’s was recommended by one of the locals. It’s the oldest French-Creole fine dining restaurant in New Orleans. It has been around since 1840. When we went in 2014, they had a special lunch menu wherein for $ 20.14, you get an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. You can also order a cocktail for 25 cents. I don’t think you can get a better deal than that!

All I can say is despite the ambiance, I cannot even give them two stars. We are part of a dinner club and try and like to go to the different LOCAL restaurants in the area. We had a party of eight(8) on Friday night. Our first issue is when we sat down, our server seemed as if he thought either he was(a) above us and(b) really didn’t want to put forth the effort into his job. Second, when I went to the Men’s Room I was a bit disappointed in Antoine’s. The urinal plumbing had so much calcification on it that it looked worse then McDonald’s. The sink was tilted down at an angle because it was falling off the wall. The caulking was damn near non-existent. Now, for the food. We had one(1) good dish. That was the soft-shell crab with almonds. Everything else was ice cold. Not room temperature cold, ICECOLD. The corn was burnt, half of the appetizers came after the main course. How does soup show up after an entrée? Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed. We can find a better place to spend close to one thousand dollars elsewhere.

Ok so let me start by saying this, I believe this place is 2 things, a bucket list experience and throwback dining allure from 1840… recipes are as such, that was wonderful, we were seated in the mystery room If you are hoping for new age food and /or dining you will be disappointed simple as that… very disappointed that some people are that ignorant and post their review as such, hello waiter was excellent, recommendations were on point… oysters 3 ways, potatoes, asparagus, lamb and chicken… all 1840s style for people to be disappointed I can only say this, they are not food critics and neither am I, best dining over all on our visit

I’m surprised by the bad reviews I’m seeing. My husband and I had a great meal. I was afraid that it would be overly pretentious, but our waiter was very welcoming and attentive. I had the chicken Rochambeau and asparagus, and both were cooked perfectly. Husband had grilled pompano and roasted corn. We started out with the French onion soup for me and shrimp remoulade for him. He said that his shrimp tasted like regular cocktail sauce, but my onion soup was amazing. I always thought that it was supposed to be watery, but this soup was a bit thicker and more delicious than I ever had before. We were stuffed, but shared the peach melba. I had never had it before and expected it to be a plain dessert, but it was fantastic. I can’t believe I almost didn’t order it!

This restaurant was on my bucket list. What a major disappointment. I truly believe this establishment is riding the coat tails of 175 years. This place had none of the graciousness as did The Commander’s Place. It started with the host asking us if we wanted to sit«here» of in the other room. Seriously, is this a diner. Our server was fine but had the personality of a scared little kitten. She made no recommendations, nor did she ask if we had any questions. We ordered the«famous» oysters Rockefeller, not good. We also selected the crayfish bisque; so salty we sent it back and it was removed from our bill. Finally, with much excitement we ordered soft shell crab. This was the biggest disappointment as it tasted like carry out from Long John Silvers. It was an over salted over breaded mess. We have had many really great meals in NOLA, this was definitely NOT one of them.

I will give it 2 stars because of respect of its 175 years serving. Place is beautiful and classic. Old style tables and dishes. We reserved there as we were hooked up by an eater review top list and website recommendations. To star you will need a reservation to dine in, if you don’t have one don’t bother in stoping by. My husband ordered a Bordeaux wine from the wine list, the wine was served but we never saw the bottle from where it came from. Wine glasses are the old style, short glasses, thick, nothing fancy. Wine was just fine. We ordered to start the so famous Rockefeller oysters. First disappointment. We have tried them in several places and for this place to be proud to say that here was where the recipe was born they were pretty bad. The oyster wee covered by a green paste with a soup, veggie flavor and at the very end an oyster that you could recognize just by its texture. No pics as I saw many of them on here. look around I ordered to start the gumbo which was pretty lame, perhaps it had 3 or 4 shrimps. The flavor mmm with a lot to wish for. I had some gumbo in Luke our first day and was pretty good so in comparison with a well known restaurant this was disappointment number 2. I didn’t want to order a main dish as I wasn’t that hungry and I saw that was going to be a waste of money. My husband ordered the meat tenderloin and a side dish of potatoes. I don’t mean to be rude but if you do the potatoes yourself will be much better than those, grassy plain cubed potatoes. The meat wasn’t that bad, it had a good taste, and the sauce according to my husband was good(it better be for the $ 40 that you are paying) We expected so much from this restaurant and at this point we just wanted to go to our hotel and order some food there. No dessert. I saw a couple desserts around and they look plain and nothing worth it. At the end of this disenchantment we just order our check and I could tell that our waiter could see in my face how I was thinking and he even asked if everything was al right after he removed my unfinished gumbo.. I have to say that the waiter was nice and I wasn’t going to say anything to him. Perhaps I’m not used to this old fashion way of cooking or flavors but do yourself a favor and if you really want to try it do it at lunch or brunch(as u would pay half) or better skip this place.

We had a fantastic experience at Antoine’s today! The $ 20.16 winter lunch special is such a great deal with loads of great choices. Sometimes with nicer restaurants like this, you lose some of the personal, welcoming touches in exchange for fanciness, but that is not the case with Antoine’s. The staff makes you feel as comfortable as you’d be at your favorite local diner, but with all the quality and atmosphere of a fancy night out. My friend and I both started out with a selection of three oysters: Rockefeller, Thermidor, and Bienville. We both liked the Bienville the best, but it was nice to have the opportunity to try a selection, including their signature Oysters Rockefeller. For our entrees we had the Oyster Bön Femme and Pork St. Louis. Both were delightful. Did I mention the 25 cent featured cocktail? Delicious and refreshing. The part that brought my meal over the top though, and solidified this 5-star review, was the sweet potato bread pudding. Good lord, this was one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever put in my mouth, as evidenced by the yummy noises that escaped me with every bite. Possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had. I don’t say that lightly. The golden raisins and candied pecans provided a nice variety of texture, and the whiskey eggnog sauce on top was to die for. I wanted to pick my plate up and lick it clean. This is a must-do in New Orleans. Full of rich food and even richer history, Antoine’s is a place to which I am eager to return.

Almost Everything we had was good but not great. Our server’s name was Brandon and I must say he knew everything about the menu, the specials and recommendations without hesitation. Great job Brandon. My companion ordered the escargot and said wouldn’t order it again. I had a small plate of fried oysters that were good. However had a sauce on top that I didn’t recognize. My friends had a fried soft shell crab that I didn’t recognize but it was good. I was kind of underwhelmed since this place has been around forever. Too many great places in Nola to just have regular tasting food.

A long time coming for a review of Antoine’s. Having most of my family born and raised in New Orleans, I always heard Antoine’s held in the highest regard. Because of this, my family also viewed it as a place not suitable for children. That combined with a long family line of frugal German blood… I was not able to go while my immediate family was still living down in New Orleans. Fast forward to the present and twenty-somewhat years. Antoine’s is still up as that same place that was put on a pedestal for most of my life. But with a lunch special going on, we were able to bypass the frugal heritage and finally make a trip to Antoine’s. And after some help with the Unilocal reviews, it seemed like the experience is best through this lunch special. As with most things hyped for decades of your life, it is really hard to live up to that. And to have a mental image of a coat required dining room just to showing up to tourists dressed in jean shorts and tank tops that you can see a sports bra through was a bit of a… well to be expected in the French Quarter. The best part of my meal were the oysters three ways which also happened to be the first course. The Oyster Bienville was outstanding and the other two were quite good too. I went with the filet with mashed potatoes as my main course. I will say the filet was one of the most tender steaks I have ever had. But it just felt like something in the flavor profile was missing on that and the potatoes. I had a bite of the oyster entrée and that was outstanding! I’m sure you can already hear the regrets. For dessert was the glacee. It was a very unique texture that started out with promise, but you get a little tired of it after a while. The really cool part of the experience was having the waiter take us to the private rooms and wine cellar. That was a very unique experience that you won’t get any where else in New Orleans. The king of Mardi Gras has been chosen in one of those room for decades! Overall the experience shakes out to be a four star. There were definitely some things below that rating(especially with a lifetime hype). But with extraordinary service and a unique experience, I feel like this was something that I needed to check off of my list.

This is Old School New Orleans at its finest. If you’re looking for $ 1 shots and crappy fried food, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want to be treated well and fed even better, then make a reservation and don your best clothes. The staff is experienced(and their age shows that they’ve probably been working at Antoine’s for decades, which speaks well of the employer) and well-educated on the menu. We enjoyed crawfish bisque, Pompano Ponchartrain, and the filet mignon, as well as pommes soufflees and the crème renversee. All was perfection in seasoning and preparation. Would definitely recommend and return to.

Had so looked forward to this reservation. I got my vacation days mixed up and they were gracious about changing it for me.(I now doubt they’re all that busy) Hubby & I were in our party wear & full of anticipation. However, we now agree, this was the worst night we’ve had in a loooong time. My first note was, «Good bread, snooty waiter». Why didn’t I read my Unilocal friends’ reviews first? Just downright hopefulness I guess. For years I’ve longed to have Antoine’s Pommes de terre soufflées. Puffy bites of hot potato heaven as only Antoine’s can prepare. Pictures always speak for themselves. Some of mine burnt. Greasy! Yuck! A French fry w/no sauce. So bummed. Compare, please, my pictures of pomme frites w/those of Unilocaler Mark David«Sharpie» Y. Of Los Angeles, CA. Oh, I wish I’d had those. Our waiter and his«helper» were pure abomination. They were so pushy. In the extensive wine list I’d seen one of my favorite wines but lost the place in the book when the waiter showed up. I mentioned I’d seen it & he blurted, «Of course we have _______!» Well, of course they might not. It’s a small winery in the Walla Walla Valley, mister know-it-all. Then he & his helper kept pouring w/o asking until it was nearly gone. That’s really too much for a small woman. Ill-mannered, pushy, inconsiderate.(As a comparison, @ Nola the waiter was so courteous. I went home w/over ½ bottle.) FYI: or TMI, skip this paragraph. I discovered said wine on a Mediterranean cruise. On my next cruise, same line, in Middle East, I mentioned it to the sommelier with whom I’d become friends. She said, «Oh, we have it. Just not enough to publicize. I’ll release it to you.» She did. Yummy! The wine was nicely priced. Since we were newly arrived to the city, I inquired about local laws for«carry out» booze(the tad that was left) Helper(I think his name was Jeff) went on and on and on and on about not drinking from the bottle in the street. Really? Do I look like I’d do that, stupid? Even in New Orleans? I only have a couple pictures. I have discussed this horrible experience many times w/hubby & we have concluded: we’ve, basically, wiped it from our memory. The picture of my fish? All I can say is this is NOT what I expected. Pretty sure it was suppose be served w/Meunière Sauce — butter, parsley, lemon. Lightly dredged in flour this was not. See photo. It was a deep fried mess. Is the myth of old true? 30 years ago it was said you couldn’t get a reservation unless you knew a waiter. Maybe today, even with the Internet, TripAdvisor, Unilocal,Open Table, and people’s extensive international travel, you still need to know a waiter? Even if you’re only in the city every couple years? So sad, Antoine’s.

Not impressed. I expected better food and definitely better service. The restaurant opens at 11:30, and even though we arrived at opening, each server looked as though they had been working all day! Dirty shirts and a disheveled look about them. We ordered the $ 20.15 lunch special… not worth it! Maybe the lunch special is produced in mass quantities… it certainly tasted like it was. Their .25 cents cocktail were good. Just remember there is a limit of 3 and only comes when ordering the lunch special.

When I was growing up, my dad worked in a well known French restaurant in Oakland so I grew up eating a lot of the dishes that are served at Antoine’s, such as Oysters Rockefeller and Baked Alaska. So when I first read about this place, I decided I had to come and taste the original Oysters Rockefeller and someone else’s version of a Baked Alaska for myself. I came for lunch and ordered the special three course deal for $ 20.15 and a 25 cent martini, which happened to be a lemon drop that day. Since I am from the Bay Area where you can barely get a cocktail for $ 20, I thought the three course lunch special was well worth the money, even though the food was only average. The Oyster Rockefeller came in a trio of baked oysters as my first course and I thought it was tasty. I had a puffed pastry with oysters as my main entrée. Although the flavor was good, the puff pastry was tough and chewy so parts of it were near inedible. I topped off the three course meal with an order of the Baked Alaska which is HUGE! It is meant to be shared between two people but I think a table of six wouldn’t be able to finish it. The martini tasted like a flat Sprite, but I had to try it, right? And it was only 25 cents so I didn’t expect much. The ambience of the restaurant was fabulous. It really felt like I had gone back in time. The setting was romantic and the service was formal, yet attentive. And we got the best table in the house next to the beautiful Christmas tree. It is definitely an experience worth trying at least once.

I was in town for a girls weekend which happened to coincide with Coolinary Month. Fortunately Antoine’s was one of the participating restaurants so I was able to sample this piece of New Orleans history. The prixe fixe options were limited to 2 appetizer, 3 entrée and 2 dessert options. I chose the Oysters Bienville to start, seafood pasta as my entrée, and the bread pudding to end the meal. During the week Antoine’s also offers a signature martini for 25 cents(with a limit of 3). The oysters were served hot. It was a good choice to start. The seafood pasta was served in a very small portion. The pasta was just ok. I did not think it was anything special. My friend ordered the veal which was served in a very small portion as well but she enjoyed it much better than I did the pasta. I chose bread pudding for my dessert. It was a great option. Actually my friend was wishing she had ordered the same. It was a good experience for my first time at Antoine’s however it was just ok. It seems the allure for this restaurant is based in history and tradition not the quality of the food. I am glad I took advantage of the Coolinary promotion because based on this experience; I could not see myself paying their regular prices for the quality of food I received. The service however is top notch and what you would expect from a fine dining establishment.

Anniversary dinner. Was highly recommended by locals. Over priced wine and Under cooked awful, baby food topped oyster Rockefeller. My veal chop was 4 bites of disappointment. No sides, salads or soup with dinner. My wife order a sub par overpriced salad. Ordered baked Alaskan at the beginning of dinner; I guess they forgot. They finally brought out, the waiter cut in half with 2 big spoons an plopped on side dishes. Not baked Alaska on my opinion, not flaming, no merengue. This was basically vanilla ice cream with cool whip dusted with something. The Waiter was close to twice my age. Did not see much if him anyway. Server assistant was great! I like the history. Straighten your pictures. Re-look an menus. Re-train wait staff.

We were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday and they didn’t pay attention to that information with our reservation. Our server, James C., did not explain dishes or offer much in the way of suggestions like all of the other serving staff surrounding us. A note about the dress code … you used to have to wear a jacket and tie here. We dressed up but others around us were in jeans and other casual wear. Drinks — the Pimms Cup here is very good but the Champagne cocktail was below average. Appetizers — Oysters Rockefeller originated here and they are served in the original preparation with no spinach. They have special seasoning but I couldn’t hear what the other server said about these and our waiter wasn’t around to offer commentary. Oysters Foch were exceptional and served on buttered toast with a rich pâté and Colbert sauce. They were fantastic. Entrees — Drum was the daily fish and we ordered it Pontchartrain style and Amandine. Both were very good. Entrees are served ala carte with sides ordered separately. We both liked the Brabant potatoes and au gratin potatoes. Dessert — we ordered the Baked Alaska(order with entrees as it takes time to prepare). It was very good but the portion size was enough for four people so we weren’t able to finish it. This is one of the old New Orleans institutions and the service should have been impecable and not fair. That really makes the evening go downhill. They really didn’t seem happy to have us. But the food was good to very good. The experience just wasn’t special enough to make us want to come back.
