My friend and I ate at Carmo our first night visiting NOLA. The food and service is amazing. We ordered sangria and a drink called the front porch– fresh and delicious! I had the Moroccan chicken with cous cous and it was fantastic. Didnt get the name of our male server who explained the menu after we were seated, and before we could ask. He also brought me fresh blueberries because with my many allergies I couldnt partake in dessert. Thank you!

One of my favorite Nola restaurants. All of the food tastes fresh, and they have nutritional options. The soup of the day is always delicious, and both the raw menu and regular menu have tasty options! The pao de queijo(cheesy bread) is my favorite ever. Must try it.

This was my first meal in NOLA& it superseded all of the foodie hype that this city gets. From the service to the dishes, my entire dining experience was perfection! I started off with a special drink of muddled blueberries & a citrus fruit with New Orleans rum, which was delightful. For dinner, I thoroughly enjoyed the special for the day, which was moqueca and it took me back to my brief time in Bahia. The flavors danced on my tongue & the homemade Brazilian hot sauce took it to the next level. The passion fruit mousse was exceptional & it was a nice ending to a fantastic meal. This entire experience made my heart happy. NOLA is a food lovers paradise!

Excellent food but the service was a bit disjointed as far as how to get a cocktail. If you aren’t going to serve drinks at the bar, don’t set up a bar with seating.

After eating fatty and fried foods over the course of several days, we wanted a fresh and healthy option for dinner. I was a little worried that my meat-loving man would shudder at the thought of going to a super vegetarian friendly spot, but this turned out to be one of our favorite meals in NOLA. I was a bit upset that one of the servers mistook my post-pregnancy belly for a newly pregnant belly and told me I shouldn’t drink. But I got over the mistake when I had the peanut noodles. I dream about these noodles… even my one year old loved them. Wish I could have these once a week!

Tried Carmo out after taking the usual hour to try to decide where to go for dinner(there’s just too many options in this wonderful city!). We liked the look of the since I am a pescatarian(but mostly eat veg) and the boyfriend is a meat-eater. We didn’t have reservations, but we were seated immediately. The vibe in this place is really cool. Hippie meets modern meets just plain cool. You are offered 3 menus. the main menu with drinks, the specials, and the raw menu. The waitress also told us about the special Eat Local NOLA cocktail which was made from local rum. I got that and the boyfriend got the caipirinha. Both were really yummy. We already knew from looking at the menu on Unilocal that we wanted to try ceviche for the first time so we ordered the Authentic Peruvian ceviche as an appetizer. I don’t have much to compare this to since it was our first time ordering it, but it was amazing. It made me excited to try other ceviches. The boyfriend ordered The Rico with pork. I like that there is an option in almost every part of the menu to go vegetarian(no dairy) or vegan(eliminating the meat or fish, or adding in meat substitute). But the carnivore happily got his pork. I tried the plantain patty and it was definitely delish. I got the large Esmeralda salad. It is quinoa, black beans, corn, peppers & cilantro tossed with a yummy coconut chili lime vinaigrette & topped with toasted pumpkin seeds & cotija cheese on lettuce. Basically everything I love on a plate. If they threw in avocados on there, I probably would’ve just died. It was huge and I am anxiously awaiting my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Another plus is that it is Eat Fit NOLA approved… a non-profit through Ochsner that I worked with for a few weeks that is promoting healthy eating in local restaurants(shameless registered dietitian… ie. me… plug). The 5th star in this review was earned by our waitress. She was very attentive, but not overbearing. She was super friendly and conversational. Lately on my Unilocal reviews the service makes or breaks the gap between 4 and 5 stars. She made it.

Delicious food and great service! I love the specials that they have… it’s always exciting to come in there and see what great new dish they are serving. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they make the experience that much more enjoyable!

Been here 3 times while working in NOLA. If you want something aside from another derivative of shrimp and grits, I recommend Carmo! Great cocktails — had the tequila one that I can’t pronounce. Delicately seared white fish and the avocado plate — one with mango reduction. Passion fruit mousse for desert. YUM! Casual environment. Light, very tasty — chef knows his sh**. Peruvian, Brazilian, Caribbean, Hawaiian influences — tropical.

A great find! Healthy food that doesn’t sacrifice flavor. I came in looking for some good recovery food after some Saturday morning volleyball. Had the Esmerelda salad with shrimp(quinoa, black beans, pumpkin seeds, greens, cotija cheese, with a coconut chili lime vinaigrette). Great blend of ingredients and flavors. Wish I had a place like this everywhere I traveled.

Excellent. Staff is over the top friendly. Oh LALA was very refreshing. Carmo salad and Rico complemented each other perfectly. Very good. PS. I have to edit this. I wrote part 1 while there. As we were leaving one of the owners and a server were talking with us. They are so nice and the place is so cool. When I visit a city I like to get off the beaten path a bit and experience the soul of the city. If you enjoy that don’t miss this place. Although the ambiance and food are different it kind of reminds me a bit of Pica Pica in San Francisco. I think it is the friendliness. Anyway so glad I found this place. :)

Fantastic food at an unbelievably low price. Came here yesterday with my wife and 16 month old. We had 3 mains, dessert, a couple apps and a really great Brazilian fruit drink. Total bill came in at under $ 50. Food was phenomenal. I also loved the fact that their place is run in 100% renewable energy. My only small complaint is that they were out of the first 2 fruit drinks I ordered. But, not a big deal. Please open one of these in Toronto.

Ate Carmo’s Rico sandwich and I j! zzed in my pants. Really, it’s that good. So is everything else on their menu – vegan, omnivore and otherwise. Our group ordered the Veggie King, the Rico and the Yellowfin Tuna Salad. I can not attest to the orgasmic nature of my dining companions’ eating experience, but I do know they were extraordinarily happy with their meals. Some of the, possibly the, best food we had in NOLA. Super friendly staff too!

My last review talked some about the weird traffic flow that was the dinner situation at Carmo. We were back a few weeks ago because we had to feed a picky vegetarian, a picky gluten-free’r, and a person who has the«god, you are allergic to everything that is tasty» allergies. Carmo was literally the only thing in the city that I could think of that would fit the bill and keep the complaints to a minimum. And HALLELUJAH! They now offer full table service at dinner! It’s a laid back meal, but I am not complaining. My dining companions were annoying enough that just the sheer joy of having a server to take our order table-side was like the heavens opened. Thumbs up(and another star) for making that change, Carmo. Good on ya. Accessibility notes: one step up. Door opens out. No Braille menu or signage. Restrooms are single stall, no gender specified. Can get loud at peak hours. Bar has high counter. Dining area can be dim in the evenings. Tables have space for mobility devices to maneuver.

Five stars for the food! Creative and unique and very tasty. Also the calm ambience was a nice respite from the other places we’d been. Can’t remember the names of what we had, but both sons devoured the pork special over rice. The flat breads were delicious. I had one of he house specialties it was a vegan fritter and so tasty. Mixed drinks were also good. Definitely a welcome switch to the usual here on our NOLA trip. Definitely not for everyone I’m sure, but if Vegetarian and Vegan don’t scare you off then it’s a great find.

I like the laid back Caribbean feel to it. The staff is pretty freaking awesome as well. The food is fresh and different, and the flavors come together so well! I like that they offer a variety of items to satisfy any palette. We will most definitely be back! Two thumbs up

Oh my yum. Loved my carmo salad. If you are like me and thinking you won’t be full, you are wrong. But if you are really worried just add some of that delicious bread to your order. The bartender was also great and I loved my dark and stormy. Will have to check out happy hour. We went valentine’s weekend without a reservation and just barely got squeezed in. So definitely consider calling before you go or making a reservation during weekends.

Yummm– so many good options here, it was hard to pick. So I had to go for two! Got the esmerelda salad, which had a very light but delicious flavor and the soup of the day, which happened to be this Cambodian lemongrass, lentil thing– OMGSOOOGOOD! One of my friends got the Veggie Sandwich– which was really good, and my other friend got this Brazilian special they had at the time which was amazing! Plus they had this live band, which always creates a nice environment. Their fresh juices were very refreshing and delicious. They do have meat options, it appears, but I’d just stick to the Vegetarian– really flavorful, fresh, and delicious.

Loved this place! Casual atmosphere. You order food at the counter and they will bring it out to your table whenever it is ready. We tried 1. The Carmo salad — This was amazing. I got the small portion but it was still very filling. The dressing was nice and light and lots of the delicious toppings. They also offer vegan ham as an option for this salad which is something you don’t find a lot of places. 2. Esmeralda salad — This salad was delicious also with lots of quinoa and black beans. 3. Shrimp empanadas — This is the only item I would not order again. The dough it was served on was very dense. 4. Maqaquito Banquette Breads — This was sooooo good. It sounds weird with the bananas, cinnamon, and cheese on one bread, but it was the best thing we had. I want to go back again just for this. It is a must try!
