I’ve been here a few times and always have the burger cooked medium well. I like that it’s served with shredded cheddar cheese. I also get the loaded baked potato. The potatoes are huge, and this meal always leaves me feeling stuffed. I’ve enjoyed my meal each time. The restaurant is small and cramped feeling. A few areas are rather dim also. Overall, this is a great choice for a good burger in the city.

The best meal I’ve had in New Orleans. Perfectly cooked burger. The wait at this place is out of control and I can see why. On top of that the staff is great.

Stopped by Port of Call for dinner on Memorial Day, 2016. I was not at all impressed. We didn’t order(alcoholic) drinks… Maybe that’s why we didn’t love the food? Came in with a group of 5. Two of us ordered burgers, two ordered pizza, and one resorted to ordering salad after realizing the Mushroom Burger is not vegetarian.(Which is honestly totally bizarre… What does this place expect people to think when they name something a «Mushroom Burger»? Honestly, beef burger with mushrooms on it is not what comes to mind.) When I ordered a burger, our waitress asked how I would like it cooked. Normally, this is good sign for burger place, indicating high-quality meat and careful preparation. Not so at Port of Call. I(somewhat bravely) ordered my burger medium-rare. I liked medium-rare, but I do not think that the meat at this place is high enough quality to be served this way. I wish I had ordered it well-done or maybe medium. Other than that, the toppings on the burger were totally standard and the bun was unremarkable and quickly became soggy, since it wasn’t toasted. Meh. The pizza looked kind of good, but not that good. I was happy that they substituted a salad for baked potato without missing a beat. And the Salad with Peppercorn Dressing was actually pretty good. Though it wasn’t the worst, I won’t be back.

HORRIBLE, OVERRATEDTOURISTTRAP. The burgers suck, the steak is bland, and the pizza is the worst I have ever eaten. I’ve gone 3 times in hopes that I would see what the fuss is all about, only to be horribly disappointed every time. Today, I went to give their pizza a try. The server came out with the worst frozen pizza I have ever eaten in my life. When we complained, the manager came over and said, «I understand that you do not like it, but you are still paying for it.» She then promptly walked away. Worst customer service ever. If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would.

Well, this is cool that my first restaurant review after moving to New Orleans a few weeks ago gets to be for a great restaurant and a fantastic meal. let me start by saying I’m a restaurant manager. I managed 2 of the best places in Northern New Jersey for a number of years, so if I say this place is the real deal? Trust me. It’s the titties. As we happened to drive by the Port of Call, my one NOLa friend said, «Oh, they have good burgers. Are you hungry?». Really? when is a man NOT hungry for a good burger? A man can finish a 2 hour Thanksgiving dinner and if someone says, «Wanna go get a burger?» he’ll respond, «HELLYEAH!!». After a spot on prediction of a 10 minute wait by the awesome hostess, we were seated with menus in hand. From what I understand, you can have a great time sitting at the bar enjoying your meal, as well. Being a NOLa Newbie I am still attracted to large cockails possibly served in a coconut shell carved into a monkey’s head, so I ordered a Monsoon. Totally dig alcoholic drinks named after anything nautical. I was immediately brought a Big Gulp-sized concoction that kicked like a tropical storm. So far? Drinks are bangin’. It was then that I noticed the menu. The menu at the Port of Call is … succinct? Steaks. Burgers. … Steaks. Burgers. And, that’s it pretty much. Sure, they throw a token salad into the mix for those annoying herbivores. But, at PofC, they pretty much decided, «Yeah. Steaks and burgers. That’s it.» No appetizers? Um… No. Get the frak out! Nope. Not a jalapeño popper or Buffalo wing in sight. STEAKS! BURGERS! Comprende, mi amigo? OK, now that we got that out of the way. Fries, please. No fries. Baked potato. No, I mean could I get french fries with my burger? Oh, choice of potato? Yes, your choice would be a baked potato. You mean??? BAKED. POTATO! And, you know what? Good on them. Because it’s a smarter move to do a small menu incredibly than a big menu half-assed. At PofC they only do a couple of things but they execute them spot on. Burger? A thing of beauty. From the bun to the patty to the size and cooking instructions. A mighty fine example of the burger hamus. The baked potato with the works? Sour cream, cheese, bacon, chives. Easily, the most teriffic tuber I have eaten in my life. OMG! This took baked potatoes to a whole new level. This was true food porn. This is a meal I would have let take me out behind the restaurant and have it’s way with me. I mean, really? Between the Monsoon and the meal I felt like I had been ravaged. Have a chance to eat at the Port of Call? Don’t even think twice. Just freakin’ GO!

Big juicy burgers and the bombest Hurricanes in all of NOLAS! My homies and I stopped by to grab a bite right before heading over to party on Bourbon! I was told that the wait can be pretty long. Remember, long lines is a great sign! Got there early at 7 and were seated at 7:30. Grab a Hurricane at the bar while you’re waiting, you’ll thank me :) The Hurricanes come in a huge 48 oz cup! For only $ 10, yeeee! I love cheap, good alcohol! You know they serve some amazing burgers when people were about to fight for tables. Unfortunately, I was in that situation. Haha, this one grump older cat was so pissed off when I hopped on a car seat to order my hurricane while I was waiting for my table! I am just getting a drink. And you can’t even order a burger at that spot at the bar lol, it’s strictly to get drinks. Jesus. The only«ugh» thing I can think of about this spot was they don’t have fries. Boo! I love my fries! A big ass burger with a huge baked potato as a side is so heavy. My party seemed so happy with the burgers and baked potato. Where did they put it? Omg the bathroom was some real life freaky ass shit. Imagine every wall covered in magazine clippings of women. It literally reminded me of that one scene in CSI where the killer was stalking this one chick and had her pics on every wall in his house. I did what I had to do and ran out of the bathroom within a quickness. Worth trying but it’s not one of those«multiple visits per trip» kinda spot haha!

Decided to try this place while visiting New Orleans based on recommendations from friends and reviews on Unilocal.Several people mentioned that they make the«best burger in the world», so we had really high expectations. We decided to walk from our hotel and thought the place was located in a really nice, quiet part of town. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how small the place was and the low ceilings. The bar area seems really cramped and the tables below seemed on top of one another. I almost decided to skip it due to clausterphobia, but two spots quickly opened up at the bar so we were able to take our seats. After I relaxed a bit, I noticed how cool the bar was. It has a vintagey, divey, tiki bar vibe to it and is really relaxed and chill. I would have loved to grab a drink there if it were later in the day. We were immediately acknowledged by the bartender who asked us what we wanted to drink and gave us menus. I would describe the service as «cold», but«attentive». The staff was not friendly by any means, but they were prompt and we never had to wait long to order or to receive our bill. I ordered the cheeseburger with a baked potato and my only complaint was how long we had to wait for the food to arrive. We sat at the bar for nearly an hour before our food was served. Now this would not have been a big deal if we were drinking, so maybe that mistake is on our part. But we were hungry so it seemed like an eternity. When the burger did arrive, we were both unimpressed. I ordered mine«medium» but it came out more on the«medium rare» side and the burger lacked flavor even though it was topped with a mound of cheese. I had to keep adding salt to the burger just to be able to eat it, and I could not eat the middle due to it being under cooked. The baked potato was excellent but that was most likely due to the quarter stick of butter that was melted inside. All in all I was not impressed by the food at all. But I think Port of Call would be a cool place to grab a drink if I were in the area.

Fantastic little neighborhood bar off the normal touristy areas. Dark and small inside just like a bar should be. Amazing burger served rare with a baked potato. Big enough to fill you up full or share with a friend. The monsoon is the signature drink and after one you are nice and buzzed. The only reason they received a 4 instead of a 5 star is because we walked in and read signs saying please wait to be seated. We stood there for almost 5 minutes and bartenders, servers and even a cook walked by or made eye contact with us but never said anything to us or sat us. All they had to do was acknowledge that we were standing there waiting and say we will be right with you. They were busy but you can’t just leave people hanging at the door like that and ignore them. Food was great, service was as expected for a bar, location is fantastic. We will be back!

OMG. Just OMG. In my top 5 favorite restaurants on the planet. Sure their menu only has burgs or steak, but they do it damn right. Also, their drinks will get you loopy. I had a monsoon while I was waiting for our table and it got me nice and toasty for our trip onto Bourbon later. There were four people in my group and we had to wait about an hour and a half, but it was so worth it. I got a cheeseburg cooked medium with a baked potato with sour cream, chives, and bacon bits. What a dream, it was cooked perfectly and I couldn’t eat it fast enough. Two people in my group got steaks and raved about those as well. Our server was great too!

While in NOLA, came out to this place as it was highly recommended by locals. I had to try their signature drink, the monsoon. The drink took me back to my college days as it tasted like Cisco. Cisco is not a very good memory for me lol. Drink is strong so make sure to eat prior to. I did not stay and eat because the place to me is too small. Everyone seems to be on top of each other. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the place for you. It also didn’t feel like a friendly atmosphere. First establishment while being in NOLA that wasn’t friendly.

When you first walk in seems kind of sketchy because it is a little dark and small. Service there was awesome, waiter was very friendly and great on suggestions. We originally came for their famous Neptunes Monsoon but decided to share a burger. Let me tell you, the burger was so juicy and made to perfection. Their famous drink at first didn’t taste much of alcohol but at half way I started to feel the alcohol, must try drink. This place feels like authentic New Orleans. If you are in N.O. you have to swing by there.

It was the end of a long day of French Quarter Festing when we decided that the sun and the walking had gotten to be a little too much and we needed some serious food. This was more hunger than a sample from a fest booth could handle, so we wandered over to Port of Call, since I had never been and my PIC insisted that I try it. We got here around 5 and, of course, there was a line. However, we decided to just wait for a spot at the bar to open up because I actually like sitting at the bar, and who wants to wait an hour for dinner? Sure enough, after waiting about 20 minutes, we were happily seated at the bar and ordering our food. I got the cheeseburger topped with everything, including a nice pile of cheese and I got the baked potato topped with everything including bacon bits. The cheeseburger was delicious! Granted, I am speaking from the vantage point of someone who was starving, but I found it very fresh, cooked perfectly and«hype» worthy. The baked potato was good as well, but I think next time I won’t get bacon bits only because they didn’t really«do it» for me. The staff here is super friendly and cool and, considering the crowd they are dealing with, they get to you really fast– we didn’t have to wait to order once we were ready. Although Company Burger still holds onto it’s spot for«Marielle’s favorite NOLA burger», I will definitely be back to Port of Call. I have yet to try one of those monsoons– once I made it here after FQF I was no longer in the mood for sugary drinks. Next time.

I got a medium rare cheeseburger and a baked potato with chives, sour cream, and bacon bits. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly. Also it included lettuce, tomato, and onions and there was plenty of condiments to use on the table. The amount of sour cream on the baked potato was a little too much for me. Lastly, service was good and prices were reasonable.

I was in the mood for a good burger and Port of Call offered one up. Be prepared for the portions to be large and the food to be mighty tasty. All burgers come with a loaded baked potato(yes). The prices are very reasonable. I ordered the mushroom burger medium well. Fantastic burger! I was here in the middle of the day by myself so I cannot attest to the drinks but they looked yummy. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu is very basic meat and potatoes so it may not be the best stop off for the vegetarians. I walked from the French Quarter here and then after walked to Frenchmen street to find some afternoon jazz.

True story: there was about a year of my life where I pretty must lived on baked potatoes. So, when I was slightly inebriated and in New Orleans and heard there was a bar where baked potatoes were the specialty and that we were headed that direction I got pretty excited. Port of Call did not disappoint. It isn’t a fancy place, but the food is good and the drinks are strong. You are most likely going to have to wait for a table, but I don’t think it was a crazy long wait. I’m not sure though as I was preoccupied with my Port of Call, a drink that is described as «a full bodied grog» and comes in a giant plastic cup. Yo ho, yo ho, and all that jazz. It’s a party. With burgers. And potatoes. Why wouldn’t you be a fan?

I don’t know why everyone is raving about the burger and baked potato. I asked for medium and it came out medium rare at best. It’s a thick burger but there was no seasoning. They use shredded cheese but they don’t even melt it. I didn’t even eat it all. If you’re a burger lover you will b disappointed. Now for the potato, i love a loaded baked potato but there was so much sour cream, butter etc you couldn’t even taste the potato. Just way too much. The wait is long and crowded.

The burgers and baked potatoes were delicious. Simple menu with big taste. My only complaint is that the loaded baked potatoes were made with Bacos rather than real bacon. We really liked the dark atmosphere in there. The service was very good as well.

Port of Call has the best baked potatoes ever !!! It literally melts in your mouth. The burgers are really good too.(I would recommend medium or medium well) Their signature drink(«Monsoon») is pretty good. You only need one !! The«Goombay Punch» is good as well; just like Rum Punch. This place is always crowded and depending on when you go, the wait can be over an hour.

I LOVED Port of Call! We came here last weekend during our trip the Big Easy for Mardi Gras(yes it was as crazy as you imagine). It was busy but we only had to wait about five minutes to get seated. We started with some generous pours of Titos and, of course, a Monsoon! When in Nola, right? I got a burger and a loaded baked potato to get my grub on. The baked potato is what carb-obsessed dreams are made of! They are not playing around! It had a mountain of cheese, a pound of bacon, and a tub of sour cream on there Lol! Of course I devoured it because I was starving after Mardi Gras-ing all day. #NoRegrats I definitely recommend this place, SOGOOD! I am craving that baked potato right now! I wonder if they ship to Colorado.

The best burger and baked potato ever! Their meat is ground fresh daily, and they add freshly grated cheese on their open faced burgers. You can’t help but leave Port of Call stuffed! Make sure to enjoy a Monsoon in their signature Port of Call plastic cup… The only reason for the 4 of 5 stars is their small bathroom; however it is very clean.

I had bookmarked this place a couple of months ago. So I was happy to actually go here and enjoy the food in person! Now this place is small, and we were lucky enough that a table was walking, out as we where walking in, so it was no wait. The menu is very simple they have 3 different steak options; Filet Mignon, Ribeye and New York Strip. All of those steaks come with a salad baked potato and hot rolls and they range from $ 27 — 30. They also offer their famous ½ lb. Burgers, which also includes a baked potato, I believe they ranged from $ 12 – 15. The potatoes come with butter, it cost $ 1.25 for the add-ons. So I started my meal with a Coca Cola, the drinks come with slushed ice, and you get to keep the plastic cup! Now the salad is very simple too, just tomatoes, and some onions I think, I got the buttermilk dressing, which was made from scratch and tasted great. Then the basket of hot rolls came, and they were so fresh, and hot, lol. They complimented the meal perfectly. So the steak came out about 15 mins later, and it was a huge filet so it had to be butterflied, just to be cooked accurately, it was cooked perfectly. The baked potato was huge and loaded with Cheddar Cheese. The Meal was good and tasted good. I did feel as though it was more of a $ 20 meal than a $ 30 meal, but I would still return, and give that burger a try, everyone has been raving about!

Port-O-Call is dark, and relatively small, with limited bar seating and a small dining area off to the left hand side. Our wait time at night was approximately 30 – 40 minutes and because of the downpour outside we found ourselves crowding near the entrance with several other groups. The wait however wasn’t that bad, and if it wasn’t raining outside and we could have expanded to the side walk it would have been a lot better. Port-O-Call would have easily been 4-star’s to me, but awkwardness by the waitress lead me to docking a star, anywhoo — more on that later — first of all I have to rave about the drinks here! My good friend Tammy lives in New Orleans and when I asked her«whats one place I should go to that locals love?» she absolutely raved about Port-O-Call! She said that they had some of the best drinks in town, and I have to agree with her! During my visit I had a Hurricane(because.when in Rome!), Huma Huma, and my absolute favorite a Red Turtle(so good and so potent!). All the drinks were strong, not loaded with ice, and for ~$ 11/each packed one hell of a punch! Port-O-Call is also known for their burgers, so you know I had to give that a shot! All burgers come served with their famous baked potato which was so good, and which foolishly lead me to believe that I was consuming enough starch to add another drink! In short: the food was great, and the drinks were excellent! The thing that irked me so much about Port-O-Call was the wait staff. It was *really* hard to get the attention of our server and when we needed something we often had to wait a really long time or stop another server ask them/ask for our server. I tipped the server what I thought was appropriate(over 10% under 20%) and she came back with a snide remark about how the tip could have been better. Additionally she then chose to literally *hover* over the table to see if I made any changes to the tip. Ugh RUDE! Total mood killer for us.

The burgers and steaks(burger in particular) they serve up here are ridiculously good. Am salivating just thinking about it. Probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Paired with the famous loaded potato. mmm mmm soo yummy! Out of freakin control! Fun list of potent cocktails/punches to work your way down, and a totally kickass bloody mary! Port of Call is one of my favorites in the French Quarter. I’ve returned many times over the past 20 years and the burger is always as good as I remember, if not better. Sit at the bar instead of a table if you can… ;-)

Solid dive bar with a long standing reputation. Had to stop in while I was in town and it was exactly what I hoped for. Good burger, sweet rum punch drink, and surly but fun bartenders slinging beverages quickly and not putting up with any gruff. Lots of tourists as expected but you can cozy up with some strangers and drink a brew and exchange stories.

Menu is pretty simple. Burger or steak, and decide what topping you want on your baked potato. Still one of the best burgers I have ever had. Expect a long wait on weekends. I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Port Of Call before today. Ever since I was first introduced to Port O Call –way back in my College days xxmany years ago– this was and still is my favorite burger in this city. They are amazing and they’re huge too! This is the burger that other burger joints in the city have been aspiring to for decades! The Swiss and mushroom burger is my favorite but I’ve never had a bad burger from here. The baked potatoes are delicious too. I will give one word of caution with the potatoes though and that is if you get the butter on it– get it on the side. I don’t know if they still give you about a quarter of a full stick of butter, but that’s how it used to be. Who needs that much butter??? It’s delicious, but your arteries will appreciate it on the side. Haha. As for the drinks. Well, all I can say is that they are all potent! The Monsoon and the Huma-Humas are the ones that will knock you on your butt the quickest.(I’m not a fan of melon flavored cocktails so the Huma Huma never makes my list, but I know a lot of people like it). I prefer the Goombay. It’s similar to the Monsoon but a little bit sweeter and a little less potent– well, at least to me. I can drink 2 large Goombays and not feel quite as affected as I do from one large Monsoon. Whatever you do… if you’re drinking, get some delicious food to soak it up. Oh and hey, I just discovered that the Pizzas have returned to the menu. Thats exciting news for this girl. The burgers are still my favorite, but the pizzas were always great as an alternative when you’re looking to share or just not quite as hungry. It’s good to have options!

Ojo no experimentados! En la segunda vez, hicimos pick up para comer en nuestro balcón. Todo muy bien, salvo que no venden agua embotellada. Tienen que ir!

I can now understand why people rave about this place. Best cheeseburger I have ever had. I went for an early dinner/late lunch on a Thursday so there was no wait at all — I hear during peak hours there can be quite a long wait, but it is worth it I promise! The burgers are HUGE and cooked perfectly and topped with all of your favorite ingredients. The menu is simple and to the point. Burger and a potato. When your plate of food comes out it has gluttony written all over it, so this is definitely place to come and indulge, leave the diet rules at home! The atmosphere is a bit dark, the place is pretty small with some bar seating and a small dining area so I can see why there would be a wait. I liked the small hole-in-the-wall feel. And the cocktails are a plus too! Lots to choose from and creative. Will def be back next trip.

Recommend by a friend to stop in here while in NOLA. Definitely some decent burgers, but nothing that I was completely blown away by for roughly an hour wait. Walked in and it has a small divey bar. Had no idea what to do as we were waiting by the door for a few minutes. Walked around finally found out you had to flag a waitress down to get your name on the waiting list or find a spot at the bar whenever someone vacates. You will usually have a long wait here; we had an hour, but i think maybe took 45 mins once someone cleared at the bar. Had their famous drink the monsoon while waiting for a seat; which is a big $ 11 drink that’s sweet tasting, but it is good and will get you a nice buzz. Ordered my burger medium and it was certainly over cooked to medium well. Nothing to complain about so I ate it. Was decent I got everything on it minus the mushrooms. The potato was good; i got mine fully loaded. Service was decent the guy that took our orders was pretty funny. Prices were reasonable. I would recommend stopping in here if you have time(for the wait and nothing else to do), and you like the small packed divey feeling of a burger/bar joint. Otherwise it’s nothing to special to brag about, but worth a look while in NOLA.
