There yesterday, 1⁄30 with friend and got served a very dry brisket sandwich. When I mentioned to staff, got«sorry may have had a roast in too long.» So much for quality control. An offer was made to have more! More of what? dry brisket. A discount coupon of some sort would of been nice(and in order). Also, the sandwich buns have gotten much smaller from when there last time– year or so ago. The place I feel is resting on their laurels. It will be an even longer time before trying again.

i once got held up in a bad part of town. the robber took my cell phone, wallet and shoes for good measure. after i gave up my possessions he stared at me for a few seconds. he had a knife pulled out and slowly came closer and closer to me. i was paralyzed with fear. he then whispered in my ear«check out the joint in the bywater for amazing barbecue at affordable prices. and dont get me started on the amazing sides». he then ran off. after this surreal experience, i knew i had to check this place out. i gotta say I LOVETHISPLACE. ive been here many times and plan on coming back many more times. also, i really like the bathroom at this place

I’m no BBQ expert, but, based on friends’ recommendations and my taste buds, The Joint is my new favorite BBQ spot! There are plenty of seats inside and out in the back, and the bar looked pretty well stocked. We ended up getting takeout instead of staying to eat, but, good Lord, that was probably best because I definitely would have gone back to the counter to order more! I ended up picking the Special: a sampler of pulled pork, some beef brisket, and two ribs. For my side, I chose mac and cheese. All of the meat was amazing. The pulled pork was juicy and tender, the brisket fell apart under my fork, and the ribs came clean off the bone with zero effort! The mac and cheese was also cheesy, thick, and delicious. You get a slice of bread, but just set that aside and don’t look back. The stars of the show were the smoked meats, and they hit it out of the ballpark! The amount of food you’re given for the price you pay was also a big plus. I’m definitely coming back to this place!

The joint is a lovely BBQ joint, and I love the name. The joint is exactly what it claims to offer — damn good BBQ. When I first moved to Nola — this was the go to for BBQ. Then came along NOLA Smokehouse which blew everything else out the water… until it shut down, of course. It’s hard to compare to that, and that is why I can’t say The joint is the BESTBBQ I’ve ever had, but it’s close. The brisket is deliciously smoked, and it had the perfect amount of fattiness to it. It’s melt in your mouth good. I had the brisket sandwich with slaw, I topped it off with the perfect amount of in-house sauce, and I was in heaven! The companion got three meats — pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. I took a bite of the pulled pork and ribs(without asking — shame on me!) The ribs were good, even though I’m not usually a fan of ribs in general. The pulled pork was standard. I’d say the brisket stands out the most. I remember LOVING the pecan pie, but when I came this time, the guy at the register pulled it out of the fridge and cut a slice. He had some trouble so by the time it got to my plate it was all crumbled because it got hard in the fridge… I was disappointed in paying $ 3 for a crumbled slice, but the taste was there(I can’t deny that.) Overall, good BBQ and nice vibes. I’ll be back again if I’m in the area. The Marigny isn’t exactly close to Metairie!

This place is amazing! If you like eating meat, this place is the place for you. This is my second time eating here and it never fails to fill me up. Mac and cheese & ribs go great together. Trust me. The price is bit pricey but the portion is great. So it’s worth it! Can’t wait to come again with my bf who’s from Chicago.

I have always closely linked the Southern United States with BBQ culture. In most of my travels to this part of the country, be it the Carolinas, Tennessee, or Kentucky, BBQ has been the cornerstone of the area’s culinary culture. So when I traveled to New Orleans and found that scoring some real-deal BBQ was not as easy as I thought, I felt a bit disappointed. Blocks and blocks beyond the insanity of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, in a gritty neighborhood known as the Bywater, exists The Joint. The weathered brown and yellow building sits next to a vacant lot. There are no flashy signs. There are no neon lights. If you blink, you may miss it. But if you follow your nose, you’ll end up right at its door. When you enter, head directly to the counter. This is where you’ll order your food. If you’re planning to order some beer, you can do that directly at the bar. Once you order, go find yourself a seat and wait for your plate to be brought out. The vibe here is relaxed and communal, consistent with my experiences in New Orleans as a whole. The Joint offers some of the very best BBQ that I’ve ever sampled. I went for the three meat combo platter, which came with healthy portions of beef brisket, pulled pork, and two ribs. For a side, I chose the potato salad. It looked like all the dishes came with a piece of toasted white bread as well. The ribs were done to perfection. The Joint uses a dry rub, but offers three types of sauce at each table. I sampled them all and they each had their own identity. The pulled pork was tender and mild in flavor. Again, you’re not getting a a pile of pork drowning in sauce, as you can choose to add as much or as little as you’d like at the table. The brisket was good, though I found a bit overcooked. A few of the pieces were super tender, while others were just a little tough. And, lastly, the potato salad, was probably the best that I’ve ever had. It was hearty, tangy, and a perfect accompaniment to the savory BBQ meats. The prices at The Joint are reasonable. This would probably not be the best place to bring a vegetarian friend, unless they are willing to eat sides as you plow through a few pounds of meat across the table. If I’m ever in New Orleans again, The Joint will be at the top of my list of places to return.

Another place that is good but not great. I wasn’t disappointed but I was not impressed. It is a good place to eat in the cut of New Orleans in a neighborhood where your not sure if it is a nice neighborhood or not lol. It’s like an artsy place kind of like its at the beginning stages of gentrification but they don’t know what to do with it yet. Anyway when you walk it you order then sit down. I find that’s a pattern in smaller bars/dives in NOLA. I got the brisket with Mac and cheese and a salad. The brisket was juicy and tender. It was not too fatty or salty. I hate when BBQ is too salty. Anyway… I didn’t like the BBQ sauce it was less like sauce and more like dressing. The Mac and cheese was good as well. I would recommend coming here if your in the area but I would not make a special trip for it.

Really cool place with really good BBQ. I think I might actually like the sides here better than the BBQ. This would be a first at a BBQ place. Usually, the sides are an afterthought or are downright terrible. I loved the baked beans. I don’t know what they put in them but they are not to be missed. They weren’t sweet. In fact, nothing was buried in sugar. All the food was well balanced except for maybe the rub on the ribs. I also loved the potato salad. It was perfect. Red potatoes with the skin on and a bit of mustard. Terrific. I ordered the 3 meat plate. I got double ribs(four) and pulled pork. I would have been fine with 2 ribs. They were very good, well cooked and a nice cut with a good amount of fat. They’re rich so two would be fine. The rub was heavy for me and a little salty after awhile. The pulled pork was tender and juicy and fatty for sure. This is really rich BBQ so less is more. I really liked the sauces. Again, not sweet, plenty of spice and tang. BBQ isn’t spicy but if you want yours to be, they have a Habanero sauce that I passed on. I would come back again and try the chicken and sausage but what I’ll really come back for are the sides.

Partook of the Joint over the holidays and got high on the food! We ordered the ribs and a brisket sandwich with mac and cheese and a salad. The ribs were really good and the brisket in the sandwich was thick and juicy. The mac and cheese was good and my daughter said the salad was tasty. My only complaint would be that the BBQ sauce was a little thin and lacked significant flavor. My other only complaint is that it maybe a tad overpriced but that’s easy for me to say being from the land of BBQ joints and trucks. Overall, the food was really good, the place had great Nola character and it’s located right across the street and by the water of the great Mississippi!

This place is really that good. They smoke the meat for about 5 hours and under 200 degrees. The ribs were tender and fell off the bones. The Mac and cheese and beans were good also. The only thing I didn’t like about this place are the sauces. Definitely will come back to try the briskest.

Say YES if someone offers you this Joint and be sure to inhale. This is the real deal Western-style BBQ. Best to go off-hours or you might not get a seat. There’s inside(tables and full bar) and patio seating. When seated outside you can breathe deep the wood smoke from the giant smoker. I had the 3 combo with two sides: brisket, pork ribs, quarter chicken. I picked baked beans and mac and cheese as sides. The meat comes unsauced. It all had that beautiful pink smoke ring and was cooked perfectly. The meat fell off the rib bones. The brisket was fork-tender, as was the chicken. I loved the brisket as it was, with no sauce. It may be a bit fatty for some but not for me. Hard to decide, but I think the chicken was my favorite. It had a dry rub that was anything but dry. Didn’t need sauce. I preferred the pork ribs with sauce. Try the meat plain first, then squirt sauces on the side and try them. There are three sauces — original, apple vinegar, and pineapple habanero, if I recall correctly. The meal came with a piece of toast on top to sop up good stuff. The baked beans were tasty, not too sweet, with some bell pepper. The mac and cheese was also good, a little peppery. I saved room for that smooth-as-silk peanut butter pie. Mmmmm, creamy, and not heavy. As far as I could tell, everything was housemade, down to the sauces and graham cracker pie crust. Staff are friendly and helpful.(I’d be happy too if I worked there.) The 5 bus stops close by but it does not come very often. I took a cab from Decatur and Canal and it was $ 11. Staff will call you a cab for the return trip. If your legs work really well you could walk back to the French Quarter, but it’s a bit of a schlep. Don’t think I’d walk at night, though.

Definitely my favorite BBQ place in New orleans! Especially on my lunch break, though beware the lunch line can get long. They open at 11:30 so I recommend getting there 11:15 or so so you’re not having to wait too long. Located in the Bywater district of town it’s one of those good neighborhood restaurants. Except that it has been highly reviewed and featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives(how I first heard of it). I have had pretty much everything on the menu and I can honestly say that everything is great! I tend to stick with the two meat plate. Brisket, BBQ chicken, and mac n cheese just makes for a great meal. Their BBQ has a nice bark to it from the smoke but the smoke is not so overbearing that you feel like your head is inside the smoker itself. Everyone should try it at lest once! I hope that you are able to try The Joint and I hope that you enjoy it.

Wow. We never would’ve found this place if a local hadn’t turned us into it. It’s great! The prices are reasonable. There’s plenty of street parking. The atmosphere is fun and laid back and the food is awesome!

Being raised in the West Coast, I pretty much assumed every southern state would be saturated with BBQ. After moving to New Orleans, good BBQ wasn’t as common as I expected. I decided to try The Joint after a quick search on Unilocal.I ordered the 2 meat combo with Ribs and Brisket with Macaroni and cheese and also ate some of my friend’s pulled pork and beans. Ribs: Delicious! Fall off the bone, moist and tons of flavor. Cooked to perfection. They cook their ribs with dry rub Memphis style which is how I prefer it. Their ribs are pretty meaty. Brisket: Very flavorful and not dry. Again cooked to perfection with the outside slightly burnt for the perfect crunchiness. Pulled Pork: Seasoned perfectly. Nice and juicy. Mac and Cheese: I actually thought it was just alright. It’s a little bland but saturated with cheese which makes it a little heavy for my taste. Beans: Pretty good. Its hard to make beans taste amazing but I preferred it over the mac and cheese. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Overall, best BBQ place in town. There’s tons of parking on the street and plenty of seating inside and outside. The staff is very friendly and the food comes fast. Only negative is that I’m not really feeling their BBQ sauce. Not that their BBQ sauce isn’t delicious, but I just like it thicker. It’s just personal opinion though. They do have 3 different flavors of BBQ sauce. I only used the normal one but they also have Habanero sauce which i was too afraid to try. Must try this place if you’re in town!

my neighbor wanted BBQ, so we ended up here one Sunday. It was hot, because they have an outside seating area. However, you walk up to the counter, place your order, and voila. They have a self-serve drink machine so that is nice. I had the half chicken — it was good. I had mac n cheese and potato salad — also good. Neighbor had ribs — he said they were really good. I would return, but definitely now that it is becoming cooler. :) i’m hungry.

I love bbq. I’m from Alabama — and I gotta say I’ve had better barbecue at dozens of places(Archibalds, Dreamland, Bob Gibsons, Whitts, etc). That being said the joint is good! Especially for Nola bbq standards. Idk honestly the meats can be hit or miss. I dunno if it’s because they reheat or what but it’s sometimes a bit dry. This happens least often with the chicken(especially if you get the dark meat. Being bone in helps). I tend to cure the dryness by dousing it in barbecue sauce because I love condiments. The beans are awesome and so is the tater salad. The slaw is pretty bland… I wouldn’t get the salad. Lol prob shouldn’t eat here if you’re vegetarian(obviously). Why four stars with the sometimes mediocre meat? Consistently good atmosphere and service and at the end of the day it’s still barbecue which is smoked deliciousness even on a dry day… AND sometimes, it’s perfect. If I could figure out their cooking schedule maybe they’d get elusive star number 5!

Note, they are NOT open on Sundays. PARKING: There is plenty of street parking as it is located in a random neighborhood. We found some right in front. WAIT: They open at 11:30 but by the time we got there around 11:15 there were already people lining up outside. By the time we got let in ordering took some time as there was only one cashier. There is a bar area where you can sit down right away and order but since we had a large group we snagged one of the few tables inside. ATMOSPHERE: The inside is small with wooden benches and a lot of décor on the walls, it’s very fun and lively inside. You can go outside where there are more tables and the bathrooms. You order first then sit down and they call your name and bring the food to you. It didnt take much for the food to come out, maybe 5 or so minutes. FOOD: I got the W special with 2 sides but I think 1 side would have been plenty. I think the total is $ 13 with 1 side dish. It comes with 2 ribs, 3 slices of brisket and a helping of the pulled pork. The meat does not come with any sauce but at the table there was a vinegar-y sauce, bbq sauce and a spicy habanero sauce. Their sauces are very watery, but has a tangy type taste. Not bad, but the bbq actually didnt even need it to taste good. Brisket was fatty and tasty, each bite had a little bit of fat in it. Ribs were also very good. Fall off the bone and had their own flavor and taste despite not having any sauce to go with it. Pulled pork was pretty tender but not the best I’ve had — I probably could have stuck with the 2 meat combo. Mac n Cheese — SO good. They bake it and yet the pasta was still al dente and the sauce wasnt overly runny or saucy. Cole Slaw — not that saucy either, which was good because it didnt feel like it was drenched in mayo. Probably my least favorite part. They also include a toasted piece of white bread. Overall, definitely worth coming to. The bbq was dry in the sense it wasnt smothered with sauce but it was so delicious!

Decided to venture to this place when my crew and I were craving some BBQ near but outside of the French Quarter. Prices are fair for the food — each plate comes with two sides. I had the pulled pork with mac and cheese and cole slaw. Everything tasted delicious. The meat was especially yummy with the brown sauce they provide at each table. Tried the beef brisket as well and it melts in your mouth. Their homemade lemonade was really good. Then one of my friends ordered a slice of their peanut butter cheesecake… holy shit. I’m not even a big cheesecake or pb fan, but it tasted incredible. Their bathroom is also surprisingly nice, although just 1 per gender. My only complaint is that the place is small so it was a bit inconvenient to wait around in the middle of the restaurant for a table to clear. It started to rain but the majority of the tables outside weren’t under any cover. However, we were still able to sit down before our meal was ready. I would definitely come again next time in NOLA!
