Here visiting relatives and always try to make it here. The gumbo is the best in Lake Charles (the best I’ve ever had) and the oyster po-​boy and onion rings are just perfect. Every dish we’ve had here has been good, it’s inexpensive and the waitstaff is so accommodating and pleasant. You’ve got to try it if you haven’t.

The food was delicious! My bf had the bacon cheeseburger and he literally said that he enjoyed every single bite. My chicken baked potato was delicious as well, and so were the fried pickles we had as an appetizer. The complimentary bread pudding was so delicious and probably my favorite part of the meal.
The staff was super friendly which is always great!

Five in our party and we each enjoyed different delicious entrees! The chicken strawberry cobb salad — wow! — we highly recommend! All very fresh, beautiful ingredients. I normally don’t care much for feta cheese but this was delicious! Southern Spice did an excellent job in choosing the best ingredients for this very good menu. And the prices are very friendly! So we enjoyed a very generous slice of the Italian wedding cake — oh wow! Stop in for the cake itself sometime!

Significant Other wanted Chicken Fried Steak and I wanted «home cooking», so we decided to go to Southern Spice. The outside isn’t attractive, but the interior is very «homey» and comfortable. The ambient noise level is conversational, the temperature was good for me AND the S.O., and the lighting is good. Not too bright to be fast-​foodish and not to low to feel like you’re eating in the dark.
The menu selection were pretty good, and they have a «plate lunch» special. Lucky for us, the Chicken Fried Steak was on the special, so my S.O. got that and I opted for the Meatballs and Gravy over Rice. I selected Red Beans, cornbread, and their onion rings, the S.O. selected a roll, and a double order of fries. Everything was very tasty… but… the «cornbread» was a tiny muffin-​type AND sweeeet. :oP Tasted very much like a store-​bought «corn-​kit». REAL cornbread would have literally raised this review another star. (If they’d like, I’d be more than happy to come in and teach them how to make old-​fashioned home-​made cornbread.)
Seriously. Very good experience, Great staff. Nice ambience. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Breakfast, lunch, or supper, it doesn’t really matter. All of their food is well done and very reasonably priced. I’ve never had a bad experience there.

Food was good; get what you pay for! The sausage was delicious though… for breakfast… BUT, don’t go during any type of rain fall… that corner of the street does NOT drain. My BF had to go move the car and to get to it water was up to his knees!!!
But food was worth going for :)

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to New Orleans. The breakfast was Southern style, nothing too fancy. It tasted good and filled us up for the rest of our journey. I should say they got their basics right and their food tastes pretty good.

First, the people there were very nice. 2^nd, food came out quickly. And the food was very good. Ordered the chicken fingers, onion rings, a shrimp po boy, fries, & a crawfish etoufee baked potato. All very tasty (the potato was a bit on the small side, but good nonetheless). They have their own seasoning for sale (cheap!). Bought two bowls of gumbo to take home to houston. Would def come back.

I was here a few weeks ago, and I told myself I’d write a review for the amazing service we experienced while in Lake Charles. The coffee was fresh and awesome, server would frequently ask how we were doing, and the breakfast was great! No complaints, totally a family feel to the little place. The people serving you are so sweet and it’s definitely a place I’d like to go back to when I’m out in New Orleans again!

I love this place. Personable sincere service! Wait staff is always friendly and greets us with a smile, even when we show up close to closing! Ladies are always helpful with recommending menu selections when I don’t know what I want. I am always satisfied!

So this is where all the locals come– we picked this place because it was open at 6:30 and didn’t want to go to IHOP because … Why? — anyway — the coffee here is excellent and hot– everyone says good mornin’ as you walk in – very going to visit he family feeling — the food is simple and tasty— don’t come here for a culinary master piece– come here to get fed and enjoy company with good people.

This place has good food! I got a jalapeño burger and fries. Talk about delicious. The patty was seasoned to perfection. I also got a huge slice of chocolate cake for like 4 bucks. Definitely recommend this place to anyone. Friendly staff fast service!

I had breakfast here, so I have no idea what their regular lunch dinner menu tastes like.
We both ordered a number 2. He ordered his with pancakes and I ordered one with the French toast, Hashbrowns and biscuits. Taste wise, it’s comparable to IHOP almost to the T. Nothing original in the flavours, but I guess you can’t expect too much out of breakfast. Just like Ihop you get a lot for your money. (12.99 pancakes, bacon, hash browns, eggs and 2 biscuits).

I had the plate lunch, regular size, which was great! The food was made fresh to order, so it takes a minute to come out, but it was worth the wait.
I would definitely come back for lunch.

Went here for breakfast. Friendly staff, a little slow on the service but the food was worth the wait. Their homemade spice rub is very good.

We ate here for breakfast 3 or 4 days in a row while visiting family. Good coffee, good food, great service. Wish we lived closer as it would be a regular place for us!

Every time my family and I go to this restaurant we have NEVER had a bad experience. The grilled tilapia special that they offer periodically is absolutely scrumptous. Service is always great and food is always done right!

We stopped in for lunch today on our way east to Baton Rouge. First of all, the service was excellent. I tried a bowl of their sausage and chicken gumbo which was very good. For our entrees, we had a crab cake sandwich, good, but the crab cake contained too much filler material, and fried oysters which were okay. The oysters were not pan fried, but deep fat fried, which made them less soft and succulent. However, the portion size was good.
