Good down home cooking at a reasonable price. The staff is friendly and engaged. I got no complaints. If you’re looking for something fancy, this probably isn’t your place.

Fresh home cooked food. Friendly and welcoming service. We will be back next time we are in town. I can’t recommend to eat here enough.

The plate lunch is decent here. It’s a similar thing to what they used to have at Cajun Café when they were open, but done with better food in a worse environment. The pork chop was good, but not greatly above average. The yams were served in a cloying syrup that was tough to get past. It’s hard to mess up rice and gravy, and theirs was decent. Same for the smothered cabbage, but some kudos to them if that hunk of tasso I got in my cabbage comes standard in every serving. The service was good and friendly. In a town where you can find so many good plate lunches but only a couple of great ones, The Kitchen doesn’t shine brightly enough to be special, but I imagine I’ll be back there for more lunches when I’m nearby.

Wow! I ate here the other day for the first time and was impressed to say the least! I had the baked chicken and cornbread dressing and it was phenomenal! The staff was super nice as well. This place will definitely be on the lunch rotation!

Came in on a Monday and went for the pork roast, mashed potatoes, corn and salad. It was awesome. Definitely do the gravy on the mashed potatoes. Cornbread was really good as well. Great value for $ 9. I’ll be back!

Home-cooking. Plastic utensils and a styrofoam plate and cup. No biggie. I had okra sausage and chicken. With corn and potato salad. Th corn tasted weird. I don’t like when places try to get jazz up corn. Just serve plain corn. It’s good that way. Potato salad tasted like it was out of a can. Not special. Chicken was chewy. I would come back. Good value for the food. Not thrilled about it like everyone else.

Conveniently located for anyone working downtown, an absolute«Must Go» if you’re craving some true home cooking. Delicious, quick and well priced. no frills and no drama, staff are great and I’ve never walked away from this place feeling let down, The Kitchen is now a must go for me at least twice a week.

The food is always delicious – so close to how my Cajun grandmother cooked. And the staff could not be friendlier or more fun.

If you like spicy, 5 stars may be for you. Everything(potatoes, corn, greenbeans, pork roast, stuffed pepper) is spicy but the cornbread and cake. But then you should expect that from a local spot in Louisiana. Paper plastic plates, utensils, foam cups. I can see this might be a local favorite. For us, it did not measure up to the 5 stars we saw posted by others. An A-OK spot, as Unilocal would say, for 3 stars.

Love the food and service, lovely people. We were looking for home cooking and we found the best! Okra, sausage and rice was wonderful. Huge servings. My mom ordered ribs andd rice dressing, beans. She is a very picky eater and liked it a lot. We will be going back to try the other dishes. Not many tables and unassuming building.

Fantastic locally owned joint with down-home southern cooking. Love to go on Wednesday for fried chicken, mac n cheese, and it is great for barbecue on Thursdays, with a fork tender pork steak and delicious rice dressing. Good cornbread and always service with a smile. Love it.

Simply superb! I was taken here for the first time about a year ago. They have yet to disappoint me. I have gotten the spaghetti and meatballs, the meatloaf, and the baked chicken. Always flavorful, never bland and with a little kick to it. Id say the cornbread is the best in town. Also the service is great. I give it 5 Bams on a scale of 5 Bams!

If you want good old fashion country cooking, this is the place. This local restaurant really knows southern cooking. I had roasted pork, mashed potatoes, green beans. The pork was roasted just right. The pork was moist and tender. Their cornbread was so awesome we took some to go, to take back to Houston.

I was in town for work and on the search for some good Southern cooking. Being a California kid, I got on Unilocal and crossed my fingers that someone would know about Unilocal in Lake Charles and write some reviews. I found The Kitchen and it was the best find EVER! I was running a little later than I wanted and rolled in as they were trying to close for the evening. I think they saw the dismay in my face when they said they were closing and agreed to give me a plate of food to go. I got the smothered pork chop, greens and yams and was not disappointed! I took my to-go box, found a nice spot to sit by the lake, popped open that box and ate the tastiest smothered chop I’ve ever had. And there was a piece of chocolate cake in there to die for! MMMMM…the Kitchen really knows how to cook it up and they exude«Southern Hospitality»…I’ll be sure to go there anytime I’m in the area fo sho!

Hole in the wall and worth the find, a diamond in the rough! A cozy place for some down home cooking. The potato salad has good spice and flavor, baked bean are just as they should be. There is a daily menu of 5 choices that each come with 3 sides of your choice that also change daily, cornbread and cake. The cornbread is made in house and should not be missed. The staff is friendly and welcoming. An all around great experience. They close at 6 so this makes for a great lunch or early supper place, and is very reasonably priced.

The Kitchen just recently moved to this location and it seems like it has been a very good move. They have a daily menu with lots of good home cooking. The place is clean and the people are very friendly. It’s open for lunch until 2, then closes until around 5 for dinner. The food gives you the warm fuzzies while it soothes your hunger. They currently have a special that kids under 12 eat free on Tuesday nights. I do not believe that they have a liquor license.
