What a great place to rent kayaks for exploring the Louisiana wetlands. It seems like most places in the area only offer guided tours, so this was just what we were looking for to explore on our own.
We stopped in on our way to New Orleans from Florida and rented a tandem kayak for $ 50 to paddle on Cane Bayou. The folks were very nice and we were on the water in no time. It only took 2 hours to get down to Lake Pontchartrain and back, but in the Summer sun that was plenty.
We saw several fish jumping and birds along the shore. The route took us from a densely wooded area right to the lake. It was around lunch time on a Friday and we only saw one other person in a fishing boat. It was definitely a fun way to get out on the water.
