New Kimono Sushi Bar Japanese & Chinese Restaurant

Don’t order pickup. They don’t make your food until you get there (third time that happened) and have messed up our order multiple times. Terrible. Go to Flourtown South Ocean instead. Better food and you’ll have it by the time you wait at Kimono

My wife and I visited this restaurant because the wait at From the Boot was a little too long one evening… And we are very happy we did!
Their sushi taste rivals the top spots in the area, the size is satisfactory and it is always fresh. Their Chinese food menu also delivers on taste. I have tried many of the traditional dishes, which all taste great. But my usual is the Vegetarian General Tso, made out of seitan.
I have enjoyed New Kimono for over five-​years because of great food. As stated in other reviews, service can be a tad slow at times. But if you have never tried their sushi, give this place a shot if you’re in the area.

I read the most recent review with interest. We stopped going here (and we had been picking up here multiple times per week) this past summer after a series of poor experiences with both sushi and cooked entrees. The reason positive comment gives me some hope that there may have been a significant improvement. We will try it out again and update this review if appropriate.

I was very apprehensive walking in as the place is family owned and what appeared to be the owners kid was our server. The service was decent; we got our food and always had drinks. More importantly the sushi rocked! I’ve eaten at a ton of sushi places and this compares to the best. My wife and I were shocked how great the sushi was we ordered 4 rolls (I usually eat 3) and couldn’t finish so not sure about the small rolls comments, maybe new owners? The reviews almost stopped me from going glad they didn’t!

This place sucks. Spicy tuna roll is grey, like a tuna salad sandwich. Service sucks. It’s a sushi place a block from my house and I never go.

We are new to the neighborhood and found ourselves looking for a quick dinner out in the neighborhood and this seemed to be the best option with no wait (I quickly realized why there wasn’t a line out the door). The service was just about the worst I’ve ever experienced — the whole dinner took 2 hours and they brought 2 out of 3 soups maybe 15 minutes after ordering with the 3^rd coming out about 20 minutes later to start the meal. We had to ask for water… and silverware… and napkins. They seemed very busy with take out, but there were only 3 tables of people in the restaurant. The sushi that I had wasn’t bad, but my husband had an upset stomach all night from the moo shoo pork.

We love this place!!! Extremely kid friendly– my son loves the spring rolls and rice. We love the sushi especially for the price. My mother gets the beef with vegetables and you get a lot of beef AND vegetables. It’s byob but have hot sake and beer for 3 $ you can’t beat that. They have a new roll with white tuna that is yummy. We usually get the same rolls over and over such as Tiffany maki, red dragon, Godzilla, volcano and of course crunchy spicy tuna or salmon ALL always good. Sometimes you have to stay on top of them for service but they try super hard and are very friendly.

Every time I come here it’s mainly for vegetarian sushi and some appetizers. I’ve notice negative comments about the size of the sushi but that is the thing I love. The sushi rolls are small, bite size unless you have a big mouth. Also, the waitress/​host is really friendly. Will be coming back for more.

This place is great, excuse any poor reviews. Quiet, consistent and fresh. Do they have the assortment of rolls that other sushi restaurant’s have? No. But what they do have is always fresh and well prepared. Don’t hesitate to ask for something not listed on the menu, they will do their best to meet your expectations. My wife and I have been going here once a week for 2 years, we always leave happy. Prices are more than fair and it’s BYO. Try it.

Decided to stop here for lunch during the week to satisfy a sushi craving. We ordered a few special rolls, but I only remember the Phoenix roll, and that’s because the server pronounced the «Ph» as «P» and the «x» as «s». They tasted good enough but the pieces were tiny, barely bite size.
The boyfriend had Pad Thai that he said was passable but didn’t taste like Pad Thai. I really loved my chicken udon soup and made a really good dent in it, but couldn’t stomach the salad that came with it.
I didn’t think it was very good value overall, especially given the quality of most of the food and small sushi portions, so I doubt we’ll come back.

We saw the reviews and decided to try this place out, since it was close. The décor of the restaurant is decent. The service was ok, nothing great but satisfactory. We ordered several items including a seaweed soup, speciality roll, sashimi, and a more basic roll. The soup was ok, lacked flavor but not too bad. The sashimi was decent, tasted like it had been sitting for a while. The sushi was not good — tasted old and was actually somewhat dark in color. The other roll was actually difficult to eat — it tasted stale and old. The menu said «tempura» style, but what we actually got was a fried piece of I don’t know.
I travel regularly on business and have experienced some excellent sushi in Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas, and even here in Philly there are some excellent spots in neighboring Chestnut Hill and even a ½ way decent buffet on the other side of 476 in Plymouth meeting. This sushi lacked freshness and flavor — two important qualities that make sushi so great.

We used to go here almost weekly, it was very good. It must have changed hands recently because there are all new Asians working there. The food is now awful. We ordered some sushi, and it had the texture of cat food, 1 piece and the rest went in the trash. We will not be going back.

We tried this place because it was the only sushi joint open on Sunday.
We got sashimi and a few rolls for take out.
The food was alright… just not great.
The Valcano roll was the only dish we really enjoyed.
The tuna sashimi lacked flavor, and the octopus was dried up — tasted like it had been sitting out since last week.
The place has a chinese /​japanese menu. I suppose we’ll give it another try… and taste the other side of the menu.

It’s decent enough but nothing to rave about. Lunch specials are pretty cheap and not overly greasy. The moo goo gai pan was well-​seasoned and on-​par with your typical take-​out dish. The curry here is well, not exactly curry. No coconut whatsoever. I haven’t tried the sushi yet but I think that I’ll stick with Bluefin for sushi.

We love this place. Lunch is rarely crowded. The food is consistently prepared and delicious. We often have the sushi, and I’ve been enjoying the tempura lately, it’s nice and light. My son who’s a noodle and seafood lover enjoys the place enormously. I take him there when he’s home from college. There’s a small sushi bar if you want to see your food prepared in front of you.
Always a nice experience and reasonable prices.
We’ve been eating from the Chinese menu for take-​out lately — it’s about the same as any other place for Chinese take-​out.
It’s our go-​to place for sushi, when we don’t have a reservation or want to spend the $$$ at the Blue Fin (up the road about 10 minutes)

Prices are perfect. Very nice lunch special menu. Sushi is decent, Chinese is good too. I usually go for hand rolls and steamed dumplings. Again, for what you get… the prices can’t be beat.

I don’t know why this place is getting low reviews, my only guess is that it’s usually dead empty during lunch. I hear it’s full in the evening. And yes this is another place I come to lunch once a week so I’ve never been to dinner here.
New Kimono doesn’t seem impressive but the quality of the food for the price, like most Asian food places, is right on the money. Its good quality eat-​in and take out. The General Tso’s Chicken is nice and crispy, lunch portions are dirt cheap and of a good size, and the sushi aint bad either.
Another place worth checking out. I promise.

Always loved going here for those random sushi cravings. Never too crowded and a BYOB. So if you can show up on a whim with a bottle of wine. The prices are more reasonable than other places in the are and the sushi is good. Right now it’s my go to sushi place.

Cheap, interesting maki combos. Warm miso soup not fresh. Some of the sushi was too cold which ruined the taste. Got sick immediately after. Maybe I hit a bad day. Atmosphere drab and kinda dirty looking. I would confidently say I won’t go back.

New Kimono is the perfect example of a «meeh» dinner experience. It’s tiny, but not so much that you feel like you’re sitting on top of strangers (yeah for booths!). The service is neither overly attentive or so bad that you start to think that the staff snuck out the back door. The wait time for your meal isn’t short, but they won’t blow your mind with speed. And the food? Well, it’s fine. We ate it, but my dude’s coconut curry chicken had no coconut and my salad with ginger dressing was super gingery. The sushi tasted fresh and was nicely prepared, but it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. My favorite part of the meal was the fortune in my cookie. It said, «The only now is in this moment.» That’s worth an extra star, don’t ya think?
