Whitemarsh Valley Country Club

Great place to have an upscale event!
I had my daughter’s 16^th birthday party at this club. It was awesome. The food and decorations were great and all the kids had a great time. This was a formal event and it was elegant but still very fun. I will definitely plan another event there.

We came here for a wedding and it was a nice facility. Both the ceremony and reception took place here and held plenty of people. The drive up to and entry is nice. It was valet only.
All of the activities took place on the second floor. There was a distinct room for ceremony, then transitioned by a cocktail hour which was next door, opening up to a huge balcony with sweeping views of the beautiful grounds. There was only one bar in this room and one outside on the balcony. They converted the ceremony room into the dining room and we moved back into there for dinner and dancing.
The service was great and they offered a variety of foods. A very nice evening wsa had by all!

I am struggling between giving two and three stars… This is a long review of complaints, but it boils down to bad service. When it comes to country clubs, service is very important (especially at a wedding reception), and service is terrible here! Ambiance was great, food was OK, but without good service… sigh.
Now, to continue with the meat of the matter! Let’s start with what I liked:
1. The décor: It was a lovely country club, the inside had a nice ambiance, and the view of the golf course was very pretty.
2. Booze: The mixed drinks were well made, but what is with the lack of liquors??? No Midori, no Malibu… what the heck DO they carry? I asked for different mixed drinks until finally I just told them to make something with what they have, since clearly they don’t have a lot of selection.
Now what was OK: Food!
The food was not bad. It started with a shrimp and scallop «cerviche.» It was more like a cold salad. The scallops were tiny and rubbery, while the shrimp were large and tender. Yet there was not much flavor to the salad. At least add a lemon, come on! The salmon was cooked well, the chicken was not universally palatable (some people said it was alright, some people said it was awful). The potatoes were perfectly buttery… I loved it. The green beans were undercooked! It like they cooked it for about 3 seconds… it was nearly raw.
My beef: SERVICE
The service was absolutely terrible. During the entire reception, you always saw the service people, and this is not because they were trying to be helpful. Often times I saw them milling around, and usually obstructing your view of something good happening. It didn’t matter where the action was happening! If I moved, there was another set of service people just hanging out, if the action was at another part of the room, you could be sure that the service folk were in your view. If they are waiting to take plates, couldn’t they be on the side, out of the way? I don’t want to sound like a snob, but when the bride and groom kiss, or when there is a slide show being shown, or when someone is making a speech, why are there three or four service people in my way? (Just to give an idea of how bad this was, I was sitting right by the dance floor, so that means they would hang out IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM!). So every time you turned to look at something, there was a hoard of servers in your view!
Also, they are total automatons! They can’t stop their programmed itinerary. When they started serving coffee, they had a route they followed. Which was fine, except then it was time for the cake cutting, so they stopped coffee service to serve cake. Turns out they totally forgot about coffee service. So I asked them THREE times for coffee. When they FINALLY resumed coffee service, they didn’t care that I requested coffee, and the table they started serving again were all on the dance floor, THEY HAD TO CONTINUE THEIR PROGRAMMED ROUTE! Which meant they put out coffee cups at each table and then asked the one guy at the table if anyone wanted coffee or tea. They also completely forgot about milk and sugar. I didn’t bother asking for it after getting my coffee, because I knew my coffee would be cold by the time they came back with it.
Finally, they are just really SLOW. Everything takes forever. So fine, maybe it is more convenient to stand at the dance floor to remove dishes, but why are you there for half an hour??? There are a LOT of visible servers EVERYwhere, yet it takes them forever to finish ANY task.
When it comes to banquets, all aspects are important, and when one aspect is lacking, it brings down the entire place. Décor was great, but food was only so-​so and the service was horrible.

I went to a WomenOnCourse networking event tonight, and it was wonderful. The country club is very pretty. The event offered an introductory indoor golf circuit. The instructors Jeff an David showed everyone hand placement when putting and chipping. This was my first time golfing. I have a new appreciation of how vital hand positioning and body angling play a major role in having an effective golf stroke.
There was also a nice appetizer spread, tea, and wine. The food taste really good an the fruit was very sweet. The area we were in also seemed like a nice reception hall, I could see someone hosting a nice wedding party or small gathering here. After attending the event I believe I’d like to take more golfing lessons. I didn’t remember her name, but another instructor taught us the logistics of the sport, and explained a lot of info regarding rules, etiquette and general course layout information. They also gave out raffle prizes an gave everyone gift bags. I had my first IQPlus bar :)

I went to an awesome wedding here Friday night. The food was good and the lowest quality vodka that could be found on site was Absolut. They have an outdoor terrace right off the bar area which allows the smokers at your wedding party not to be exiled to some far away location. The drink glasses were huge and the bartenders were pouring pretty heavy. All in all a great place to attend a wedding.
