Joinus Alterations

I have had four items that I have taken for alternations. The first was a dress in which they sewed the strap in a different place than was agreed upon so they had to redo. A pair of men’s pants which are hard to mess up. A pair of shorts which turned out ok but care was not taken to carefully align hems. This last time I took a beautiful silk pleated top in which a few hems had fallen out. She sloppily placed new hems (without linings pleats up) and then used a dark thread instead of the light green thread that was still there. When I asked her why she said I could go buy the thread and bring it back and she would fix it. Needless to say, I won’t be taking any more tailoring there :(. Dry cleaning is great though.

Sadly I need to write a less than stellar review of this business. My daughter brought a beaded bridesmaid dress (sister of the bride) in to be hemmed and to re-​sew some of the beads /​sequins that were falling off. When she came back in to pick up the dress (Wednesday), the hem was done but the beading had not been touched. When she asked why they didn’t sew on the beading as agreed, they said they would keep the dress and fix it by Friday as the wedding was on Sunday. My daughter confirmed that it would be done by Friday as she needed it for her sister’s wedding on Sunday, which was out of town. We were leaving early Saturday morning. I went in to pick up the dress Friday morning (around 11:30) and it was not there. The person working called the owner (I assume) to find out where the dress was and they had it at another location, and that the sewing was not done yet. It took multiple calls to get a response and I waited in the store until they spoke to the owner, so that I could confirm who had the dress! They said they would take it to get sewn, but since I was concerned we would not have the dress by end of day on Friday, I said they could forget the sewing and to confirm they would get the dress to me by end of day on Friday. Fortunately, they called me at 5:00 PM and the dress did arrive around 5:30 on Friday as promised. My daughter spent time Friday evening sewing the dress herself. This was all quite stressful as it was very last minute and I wasn’t sure if we would have the dress in time for the wedding! I asked for a refund for the cost of the alterations since they did not complete it in the time-​frame promised, and they said they could not give me a refund without approval from the manager.
This may not be a common occurrence with this business, but I will go elsewhere for my tailoring needs in the future.

They did a great job altering a Primaloft pullover I had that was too big. She was quick, friendly, and made it into a nice athletic cut — now the piece fits well underneath my hard shell jacket for skiing. Reasonable price, quick turnaround. Thanks!
