Jon sold my house in Orinda in 2006. He was wonderful to work with. He was very easy-going, pleasant to work with, and did exactly what I had asked him to do. It was such a pleasure to work with him. Jon provided his expertise to my first real estate transaction upon my and my husband’s move back to the Bay. The time was Winter 2011 and prices were 30−50% depressed from the 2006 – 2007 highs. Foreclosure and short sales littered the market and supply was plentiful. It was an interesting time to buy with many buyers skeptical that the bottom had not quite hit and bankers holding the purse strings as tight as could be. After seeing more than 40 houses, my husband and I settled on a BofA foreclosure with multiple offers. Jon assisted us with insights about historical pricing, current market environment, and more importantly what all that information meant for us a buyers. We secured the house with an offer 2.5% above asking price, which during that time was not done without apprehension, but ultimately was required since the bank priced the house below market. Without Jon’s insight into the market, we could have very well, and mistakenly, offered too low of a price. Jon also oversaw the entire process with regard to the purchase including inspections, dealing with BofA and their agent, which alone can be a major headache, providing calming words of wisdom to us when the deal looked like it was going to fall through, and finally seeing it to closing. Of course, as most deals go, there were issues, but all in all I was pleased with the outcome. Fast forward to Winter 2014 and my husband and I find ourselves in a position where we are able to rent out our first house we purchased with Jon’s help, and upgrade to a bigger house in a superior neighborhood. While we had a strong inclination that our first house was a good investment, going through the rigors of converting it to a rental and purchasing a new house only confirmed that we made an investment that paid off with a handsome amount of equity and cash flow. While we were of course pleased with outcome of our first house, we were then hit with the reality that the market had drastically changed from 2011. As we were looking for our new house, we were confronted with prices more comparable to the highs experienced in 2006/2007, a much more limited supply, and houses with offers in the dozens or more and often cash. This is when I realized that Jon was an even better agent than I originally thought. Since he’s been through different market environments, his insight was invaluable. We were able to not only find our dream home, our house appraised for slightly more than our purchase price, which was 8% higher than asking price. Overall, Jon has proved himself in two extremely different real estate markets. I’m an informed, proactive, and some would say demanding person and my expectations with my dealings with Jon were exceeded on all fronts. I would not, and have not, hesitated in recommending Jon to friends and family and I would absolutely work with him again in future real estate deals. One last thing to mention… The icing on the cake, Holly! She’s picks up where Jon leaves off, if necessary, and always follows through be it with emails, phone calls, texts, appointments, the inevitable rescheduling of appointments, etc. She is both effective and efficient and a pleasure to work with.
