Most important thing I can say is that these guys are open on Sunday.
We were traveling across the country, headed to the beach for a much-​needed vacation with three young boys in the back of our van, when 150 miles from anywhere in the baking hot Louisiana sun, a tire exploded on the interstate. We had a spare, but we also had 400+ miles to our destination, and the spare was rated for 50mph. Then it started pouring. 100 miles from Lafayette, we realized that we absolutely needed a new tire, and started looking frantically for a place that was open on Sunday. We found this Sears Auto Center, only 15 minutes out of our path, and gave them a call. They said they could get a new tire installed if we got there before 4:00, because they close right at 5:00, and won’t take anyone after 4 to avoid getting stuck at work.
We were 90 miles away, and had 90 minutes until 4. On a 50mph tire in the pouring rain. Whee. I’ll just say that we got there at 4, and despite a very long wait at the customer service counter before we were seen to (only one person at the front desk on Sunday, apparently), we got our tire.
Vacation was saved, and honestly I don’t think we would have made it there without Sears and their Sunday hours.
I will say that their price for a tire wasn’t comparable to what I am used to getting from an online tire seller, and that the man who sold us the tire also put a $ 20 road hazard upgrade on our bill without asking. I did notice it, and he took it off as soon as I asked, but they shouldn’t do that. Nobody wants road hazard on a single tire, and they probably wouldn’t honor it anyway, since the tires don’t match. Probably against some rule.
Anyway, if this were any other situation, I probably wouldn’t be giving this place 4 stars, but they saved our vacation, which is worth at least 2 stars on its own.
