Decent indian buffet. Nothing special. A little disappointed, but I’d go back as there doesn’t seem like there are too many options here. Lasi seemed like it came from a jug.

…and now I know what Indian food made for Midwesterners who can’t eat spicy food tastes like. Don’t get me wrong, the food here doesn’t taste terrible, it just doesn’t taste like anything resembling Indian food. We had the dinner buffet(it’s nice that they have that, although it’s fairly pricey at $ 18 and doesn’t have a huge selection), so we had some of just about everything and none of it had any Indian flavor. It *looked* like Indian food, but it tasted like American food. Even chicken tikka masala, my favorite Indian dish, which is traditionally very mild was noticeably not seasoned at all and basically tasted like tomato soup with chunks of chicken. A lot of the dishes on the buffet were barely lukewarm, which was unappetizing and also sort of strange since we went right after they opened for the evening. The naan was good and the best thing about the food. They offer three kinds(plain, garlic and spicy), which is interesting. We tried the garlic and wanted to try the other kinds, but weren’t able to get the waiter’s attention until we were done with our meal.

Good place. Really love the goat curry goat and dessert rice pudding! Worth to try. Hope they can make more kinds of dishes for buffet.

It was one of those days I had forgotten to bring lunch to work, so my coworkers and I decided to go out for some Indian food. Upon entering the restaurant, I was pleased with the décor, which was somewhat elegant(white tablecloths, glassware, etc.) and understated. We were quickly seated and given waters by an efficient, if not gruff, waiter. Perhaps one of the owners? Apparently, naan(the best I’ve ever had!) is complimentary and so is the grilled chicken kabobs. You can choose how you want your naan – regular, spicy, or garlic – and you’ll soon receive perfectly seasoned, fluffy goodness. We couldn’t understand our waiter very well so we’re worried we had accidentally ordered an appetizer. Never fret though – it’s free! I would return just for the naan… The lunch buffet at Sharma’s is simple and not the biggest I’ve seen; however, everything I tried was pretty tasty, especially the spicy eggplant curry and goat curry. The samosas were just okay – a bit bland. They also had a small salad bar and 2 dessert options: rice pudding and some kind of sweet donuts covered in syrup. I left feeling very full and satisfied and only $ 12 lighter!

So I actually ended up here on Valentine’s day, kinda random, but it worked for us since we had been wanting to visit Lafayette and don’t care much about Valentine’s day, haha. They first asked us if we had a reservation, we didn’t and they didn’t seem to like that even though the place was only maybe half full. They sat us right away regardless but we got sat at a seat really close to the door despite many other open tables and every time it opened we got pretty cold, that was a bummer. We got to choose what we wanted for our naan and this was awesome, I loved it and the cheese dish my sister chose, it was ordered so fast I missed the name, haha! I wish I had more room at the end of our meal to eat more of this. On to the buffet, decent selection, fairly awkward layout and you had to dodge people and try not to get in the way. I tried a handful of dishes, all tasted pretty good but a few were kinda lukewarm which makes you a little cautious on a buffet since they are just sitting out. I liked that most options were labeled and had a brief explanation of what was in them. They also did a good job of keeping it stocked. I really enjoyed the dessert options as well and left stuffed. Server was polite as well. Overall, good, but I wasn’t particularly impressed, however, I would definitely give them another chance!

Had heard good things from friends about this place. So why not? Absolutely loved it. They offer a menu full of authentic dishes as well as a full buffet that offers a sampling of their feature dishes. We chose the buffet. Immediately a sizzling plate of chicken kabob and naan was brought out. The food was hot and fresh and full of flavor. We didn’t find anything that was too strange or weird(taste, texture, appearance wise). Staff was very friendly attentive and helpful in assisting us in the ways of eating their food. We will for sure be back. Thanks!

I had to amend my review. On our most recent visit, our server(who I had not seen before, so may have been new) was quite rude, almost like she was angry with us. The price for the buffet has gone up. I also noticed a family with small children using the buffet — the children were literally putting their faces to the trays to smell them. It was disgusting, and for how hypervigilant the manager /owner is to any perceived misbehavior of the clientele, I would have expected someone to catch this. It is not hygienic.

This was my second time here. You cant believe it, I found a screw nut in navratn korma in the dinner buffet!!! I mean this is seriously shocking! And that sharma aunty was defending that some competitor might have dropped down that nut in their food! Are you kidding me? I firmly suggest all of you to avoid this place at any cost. There are other good Indian restaurants in lafayette like garam masala, shaukeen, etc where I have had the best experience.

Good food, service leaves a lot to be desired. I’d rather not go there for a eat-in. A carryout, maybe.

Last night, on the occasion of Diwali, I and 3 other friends of mine decided to go to this place for dinner. I had planned to join them but not eat. We entered in and were asked by a waiter if we made a reservation for the 4 of us. There were lots of unoccupied tables but we had speculated a big Indian crowd, so before going there, had called in to ask about their menu and if we needed to have a reservation to which they said no. Anyway, he politely said that they would be able to arrange a table for us within a few minutes and that we needed to get our name on the waiting list. And that’s when the ‘fun’ started. We approached the lady at the counter(the owner of the place, Mrs. Sharma) to get our name on the waiting list. Below is the actual description of the statements showing how things panned out: Mrs. Sharma:(asks my friend) Your name? Friend: xxx (All the other names were crossed out and we were the 1st one on the waiting list) Mrs. Sharma: How many of you? Friend: 4 of us. Me: No, make it 3 please. I will just give you guys company, I won’t eat. Mrs. Sharma: We cannot accommodate you if you are not eating. (Yes she said it, just like that, point blank) Me: But I will be on the same table only.(A table has 4 sides, of course and we were 4 in total only) Mrs. Sharma: But we have fixed number of chairs and we can’t let you in unless you eat. (Oh yeah, that too when we could see a couple of empty chairs behind her) Me: Seriously? Mrs. Sharma: Yes. (At this point, we were all shell shocked by the way we were treated. What do I do? Go back and sit in the car while my friends eat) Friend: Ok, let’s go somewhere else and eat. Mrs. Sharma: Yes, please go. Errr… No apology or anything of sort. She took rudeness and ridiculousness to a new level altogether. As my friend quoted, she probably forgot Lesson101 in hotel management. I don’t think any of us could even in our dreams ever imagine to be treated so rudely at a restaurant — BEINGNOTLETINBECAUSE1PERSONFROMTHEGROUPISNOTEATINGANDTHEYDON’T HAVE A CHAIRFORTHEM. Surprised will probably be an understatement, we were flabbergasted. Yes their food is good but never ever could we think of going there again. I had had several reviews from my friend about that rude lady at the counter and found a lot more on Unilocal.May be I had to experience it myself before I would stop going there again. ‘Enter at your own risk’ — they need to write it down in BIG letters next to the hoarding at the entrance. Needless to say, we spent the rest of the night bitching about their service.

RUDE owner and weird awkward servers. The food is good and we went several times. Honestly though, I cannot even bring myself to come back because of how incredibly awkward it is dining here. The most recent visit put it over the edge, the owner lady asked if we were ready to order literally one minute after she gave us the menu. When I smiled and said no not yet, she made an audible noise, said«really?» Rolled her eyes and walked away. The two white nerdy servers are just as bad, they know nothing about the menu so they bring the wrong food, and you can’t ask them about anything. Then they try to take your plates while you are in the middle of eating off of them. I want to go back but it feels like some sort of weird psychological experiment in making people as uncomfortable as possible. The owner lady wasn’t as bad the first time but the more times we came, the ruder she got. The two servers were strange and inept everytime! This place would do better if no one served at all honestly, I cannot emphasize enough how awkward I feel everytime I go, as if we are bothering them by coming in the door. The only redeeming character here is the Mexican server, he tries really hard. But as hard as he tried, he cannot make up for the rudeness and complete ignorance and incompetence of the rest of the staff. Considered ordering to go, but I witnessed that same lady scooping things from the buffet into to go containers for people who called in orders. Sorry Sharmas, you lost a regular customer for good this time. Remove that rude woman from her peering perch at the front of the restaurant and I may consider going again.

The best Indian lunch buffet I’ve ever had! I love Indian food, but am not comfortable enough to eat it outside of a buffet format; therefore, I’ve been to a good number of different(over 20) buffets throughout my travels. There are a few things that set this one apart from the rest: 1– Fresh naan, with an assortment of flavors, delivered to your table at arrival. 2– Your choice of kabobs cooked to order and delivered to your table.(I went with chicken) 3-Detailed descriptions of each dish on the buffet. The food was delicious! I was shocked that it wasn’t as spicy as I’ve had in the past; it appears as if the food is prepared with Americans’ palates in mind. I loved the variety of flavors: sweet, savory, and spicy. My friend, who ordinarily shys away from spicy food, was able to enjoy all the dishes. The chicken masala was the best I’ve ever had, hands down! I really have no complaints about the taste and quality of the food. The only downside, which I am willing to overlook, is the lack of Palak Paneer(the spinach dish). I always look forward to having that along with my naan.

The food is alright, but the lady at the counter(who also owns the place) is VERY rude. I called them to check if they do to-go dinners(which they call«combo»). The guy answered my call, and told me that they do. But when I went to pickup the dinner, the lady rudely told me that they have stopped doing combo dinners. When I confronted her that I had checked before driving there, the guy whom I spoke to over phone came forward to let me take the to-go dinner. As I sat at one of the tables while I waited for the food, the lady told me that I cannot sit at the table cuz I am ONLY getting a to-go dinner. Considering that the place wasn’t even half full when I was there(and no way its gonna be full cuz its a weekday), I thought she was being rude. While I have felt that her demeanor is unwelcoming many times in the past, after this experience I decided never to go to this place ever again.

Very good Indian food but the service is awful. The food is good but in multiple occasions I got the wrong dish and in part because the server didn’t even know what he brought to the table was suppose to be so it can be frustrating when it happens more than once. We kept coming because we couldn’t find any other decent Indian restaurants around here but we found one today in Lafayette where the food is as good if not better with very nice service so I think we won’t be coming back to Sharma’s.

EXCELLENTPLACE. This place certainly blows other Indian restaurants around Lafayette(and even ones on Devon Street in Chicago) out of the water! I’ve dined at Sharma’s for their lunch buffet many times and it holds as one of my favorite restaurants. The service is always outstanding. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and attentive to drink refills or orders. The owners are certainly great hosts. The environment is very clean and well put together. The décor is warm and attractive and is consistent throughout the dining room. The food at the buffet was also neat(no crusty messes or spillovers into other trays). The food is amazing. The buffet has a variety of hot and fresh options both for meat eaters and vegetarians. Everything is always tasty. Also with the buffet, you have an option to get sizzling grilled chicken kabobs or paneer brought to your table as well as an assortment of naan(garlic, spicy and plain-TRY THEGARLIC). The dessert options are light(rice pudding) or more heavy(galub jamun)-both equally satisfying. Overall, best Indian food in the Lafayette area. Try it!

I have gone to Sharma’s kitchen at least 8 times within the past year, and it is my favorite restaurant in Lafayette. All the times I have gone I have had the buffet, and the selection is amazing. In terms of Indian food in the greater Lafayette area it is the best, and it is also the only place that I have found to have goat on their menu in Lafayette, if anyone knows of another place that has goat I will be interested in knowing. The dinner buffet with tax comes in at just over $ 17, but it is definitely worth the price. The environment is friendly and great whether you are going with family or on a business related dinner.

I did carryout tonight for the second time from Sharma’s. It was excellent all around. We had the Pani Puri appetizer, which was served piecemeal as a carryout order. I had never eaten it and didn’t know what to expect, so I was surprised at how it was served. Since the breads are crisp it made sense to do carryout this way. For entrees we had Baighan Bharta & Navratan Korma. My wife and I enjoyed them both. I preferred the Baighan Bharta, she preferred the Korma so that worked out well. But they were both delicious. Our naan was good as well. I checked out the buffet while I was picking up the food and the host told a server to package up a small dessert from the buffet for free. Very nice! The service is great and the food was excellent. In my previous review I noted the small portions, but that was not the case this time. We both have enough left for lunch tomorrow. However, the rice portion is too small to be served with our leftovers… luckily I knew and ordered a second side of rice. All in all I was very happy and we plan on dining in to eat at the buffet in the future. EDIT: I am not going to review them three times, but my latest meal was underwhelming. What I must add is when you get carryout(I cant speak to in house dining as I have not done it) you will not get nearly enough rice with the two meals you order. So, knowing this, I order an extra side of rice. Simple enough, right? What’s not simple is now they come to the conclusion that a side of rice should cost $ 4.50!!! Wow, I never saw an itemized receipt the other times I went there. That’s ludicrous. And if you dont have it, you just wont have enough rice. So go ahead and tack $ 2.50 on to each menu item that needs rice.

This wonderful new Indian restaurant featuring authentic Indian cuisine just opened October 10th. The food is fantastic! It is owned and operated by the chef, Satinder Sharma and his wife. They are very gracious hosts. There are buffets for lunch and dinner, with many dishes, all delicious. I particularly liked a palak(cheese) dish, the chicken vindaloo, one with egg plant, and another with chickpeas. The garlic tandoori chicken was wonderful. Nan is served with the meal. We drank tea masala and water. The tea was excellent. Fresh watermelon was nice way to finish the meal. There is a beautiful menu with many choices if one chooses not to go with the buffet. Vegetarians will also find many choices. The restaurant is bright and cheerful with attractive Indian artwork and décor. A statue of Lakshmi(Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity(both material and spiritual), light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity, courage and the embodiment of beauty, grace and charm), presented to Mr. Sharma by his friends on the restaurant’s opening, presides over the dessert table. Sharma’s Kitchen is easy to find. It is located on Sagamore Parkway where the Bombay restaurant once was. They do close from about 2pm until 4pm between meals, so you might call for exact hours. I’ve eaten there twice since they opened, and plan to visit again with friends this week. We have a lot of Indian restaurants in Lafayette, but Sharma’s Kitchen is my new favorite. I hope you will like it, too!
