This place was really hard to find, or it could be the fact that a college student gave me some bad directions. Either way, you really wouldn’t know you were at The Venue when you’re outside of it. Unless someone opens the door and tells you. The Venue used to be a place called Downtown Records. The new owners have converted the two story building into a small music hall for local shows. I came to see a band called Tim Williams here. Only 10 other people showed up besides my group and we had the place to ourselves. We danced upstairs, there’s a ping pong table and some benches to sit on, as well as a balcony that overlooks the stage. I’ve been told other shows are a lot more crowded and fun than the one I happened to attend. You pay for tickets at the front counter when you enter the building, and show prices are usually $ 5 – 10 bucks. A good deal for a college student. There’s a parking garage about 5 blocks away, but I assume you could catch the bus that comes through downtown Lafayette or park on the street.
