This is the metro’s newest disc golf course(Unitl Arvada’s Memorial Park course opens later this Summer). Nine holes were opened in July 2014 on the east side of Waneka Lake Park with an additional nine scheduled for 2015 along the west side of the park. Course plays through the grass surrounding the lake. Many of the holes are short, but there are a few longish holes. Two of the baskets are elevated. Weirdly, they cut fairways in the long grass for each hole. I am not sure if the creators play disc golf, but a narrow fairway is not really helpful for this sport. Hopefully, they will cut a wider area. As with most of the tall grass courses, Waneka Lake may be a better played in the off-season course when the grass is dormant.

This is one of our family’s favorite parks. We love it in the summer because it is covered by the trees enough to offer shade through the heat. It is also exposed enough in the winter to melt away the snow effectively. There is enough play equipment to accommodate the many kids who always swarm here. You will find that in addition to the large ‘big kid’ jungle gym area, that there are also smaller toys geared towards toddlers. A+++ in our book.

Waneka Lake is an awesome place for parties, picnics, jogs, walking dogs, etc. Just in general it is a great place for families, kids, and pets to hang out. There is a playground and a boat house, and a trail around the lake so you can walk around it. The playground is pretty cool, and I always loved climbing the trees.
