Vickie has changed my life forever. I have long, curly hair and have been to ‘the best’ stylists before. I always went in with hopes of having a real haircut and hair style, and left with the exact same hair that I came in with, but maybe a little shorter and a little brushed out. I grew to kind of like my curly hair as it was, but never loved it or thought it was an asset. I was very content to hide my hair in a pony tail and just accept my extensive frizzy poodle hair style as a part of life. I went in, thinking i’ll pay a lot of money to sit down and have them style my hair in a way I can’t reproduce tomorrow, and maybe they’ll give me a couple layers and trim the dead stuff as per usual. My triangle hair style would be back in a week tops. I now LOVE my hair and look at everyone, no matter what their hair looks like, and frankly, mine is better. All my life I wanted straight hair,(as per the usual curly haired girl) just for the bangs, or ability to change a hairstyle, or just to walk outside and not feel like a lion with a Tina Turner mane style. Now, My hair is frickin’ awesome and hells yes it’s an attribute! I look better than a curly Garnier commercial.(btw, do not put that or any other crap in your curls). Everyone at the salon was incredibly kind and made me feel like I had been a regular there for years even though it was my first time. They TAUGHT me how to work WITH my curls, instead of treating my curls like regular hair and trying to «tame» them. The ladies at Curls On Top don’t just give you a hair cut or style. They show you how to take care of your curls on a chemical level as well as physical. It is completely different from lather, rinse, repeat, towel dry, brush, etc. Frankly, if you live 5 hours away, or 25, it is worth the drive. They do stand behind the Deva Curl product, which is an amazing product, but you need to learn how to take care of your hair with it. Using just the product won’t change a thing. I know because I tried it for over two weeks. You need to use it with the methods they teach you, which the ladies know up and down. The book, Curly Girl, also teaches you these methods to take care of your curls, but seeing it in person is much more helpful. I will never have to deal with frizz again, yanking knots out of my hair in the shower, and am now SO proud and happy(and admittedly, damn sexy) with my now taken care of and happy curls, all thanks To Curls on Top. I’m never letting anyone touch my hair with a brush(including myself. I threw my brushes in the trash as soon as I got home) besides Vickie ever again.

I hate my haircut! Unless you want to style it one way and invest in expensive Deva Hair product don’t go here! I’ve had other hair cuts especially for my curls and know that if it’s a good cut, hair product is not an issue! I do not have layers, I have a ledge. I have short pieces, longer piece. Can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am. I came here to avoid the longer drive to get a Ouidad haircut but I will NEVERCOMEHEREAGAIN! Just waiting for it to grow out and this hair tragedy to be over! Also, don’t be fooled by the before and after photos. They tell you to come in with combed out curls and no product. No ones hair looks good like that, regardless of the cut. Ladies were very nice but it doesn’t make the cut right…

Great cut! Legit curly hair salons. Recently relocated out here from NYC where I was going to Devachan for last 3 years. Cut/style was just as good as my Deva stylist. Actually better because I took the the leap from veryyyyy long to long layered bob. Love it! Thanks guys :) Worth the 30 minute drive!

If you have curly hair, giving«curls on top» a try, is a must! Vicki and her team help you feel comfortable and pampered at the same time. Along with leaving with beautiful curls, they teach you how to get the same results at home. They have helped me learn to embrace my curls! I would highly recommend and will be back.

I am so impressed with this salon! All of the stylists are very helpful and personable. The salon is in an awesome location on pch in Laguna. The décor in the salon is super stylish and comfortable. And of course most importantly my hair has never looked better! And all with just shampoo, conditioner and gel. No hair straighteners, no relaxers, no Brazilian blowout… it’s awesome. Just great, affordable curly girl hair products, and simple techniques for washing and drying. I’m amazed. I will definitely be coming back here. If you have curly hair, or want curly hair, you’ve got to come to this salon.

I love, love, love Curls on Top. Vicky the owner is awesome. The haircuts and hair care I learned from Vicky literally changed my life. Finally, someone who can work with my curls! Any curly girl knows that all beauticians say they can cut curly hair but afterwards it becomes a frizzy mess. Go curls! I will never straighten my hair!!!

Just got my haircut here today and had a wonderful experience. The salon is located in a little structure in Laguna, the ambience and decorations are so cute and there is a very girly beachy feel when you walk in. Was greeted nicely and offered water then Vicki sat me down and started talking to me about my hair history she asked a lot of questions and really asked me what I wanted. I had dry ends that went down straight so I told her I wanted that straight look out but still wanted my length and she did exactly that! Then a lovely lady washed my hair which feels amazing because of the mint in the Deva products, then put in some clips and dried my hair. Usually after that Vicki goes over and sees if she needs to fix anything, but my hair didn’t need any fixing! The price is really good considering it is impossible to find someone that does the DevaCut and its all on her website. Everyone there is so warm and friendly and I can’t wait to come back!

Vickie is an artist! She gave me the best haircut I have ever had in my 37 years of life. I felt at ease the moment I made the appointment with Laura, I was instructed to come to my appointment with my hair completely dry, product free, and in my usual style. I knew at that moment I was working with a pro. Vickie took me step by step, and she took her time with my hair. I left with a healthy looking, bouncy, beautiful set of curls on top, and a lot of tips to help me to accomplish the same.

I live in San Diego(Carlsbad) and so it’s about a fifty-minute drive for me to get to Curls on Top in Laguna Beach, but it’s really so worth it! I’ve been going to Vickie off and on for cuts only for over two years. Since it is a bit of a drive for me, I’ve strayed a few times and have gone to curly hair stylists in San Diego, but have never gotten as fantastic of a haircut as I get from Vickie.(She’s also been incredibly nice about the fact that I strayed a few times since she knows it’s hard for me to get up to her salon.) I have wavy hair, and she knows just what to do to it to make it look amazing! In fact, in March, I had her cut off about 13 inches from my waist-length hair to turn it into a lob.(I’ll post pics, but please excuse the deranged look on my face in the short hair one! I was trying to capture the sides of the cut right after I got out to my car!) I would normally be really nervous about such a major change, but knew I was in great hands with Vickie. She helped me grow it as long as it was(she would only do minor trims while I was growing it out to help me achieve the length), and then helped me take it shorter. She’s kind, patient, and a professional. She makes sure that you know exactly how to use products for your hair type, and her cuts have been the best cuts I’ve ever gotten. Her assistant Laura is also a sweetheart. I also want to add how honest she is, in both giving her opinion and in her professionalism. I’ve been doing my own color with henna for over a year, but it wasn’t coloring my greys as much as it used to. At my last cut, I asked her about having her do my color, but she told me that it looked great, and that I should keep doing my color on my own, rather than driving up to have her do it so I could save time and money. She also won’t have you come in more than you need for cuts; when I was growing out my hair, she had me come in just twice a year. Now that it’s shorter, she told me to come back in four months. Parking can be a bit tricky to find in the new salon location, but I can usually get a spot within five minutes. Vickie is fantastic, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about her! If you have curly or wavy hair, she’ll work wonders on it!

I can’t even being to tell you how happy I am to have come across this salon! I never knew how to manage my curly hair so I started a terrible cycle of chemical straightening about 10 years ago. I finally decided my hair had enough and wanted to make the transition back to curly. About 18 months later I landed in Vickie’s chair terrified at the thought of what my first cut was going to look like. All I could picture was a short, fizzy, and afro looking do. However, ITWASTHEBESTHAIRCUT I’VEEVERHAD. Most stylists don’t know how to cut curly hair. I’ve even had a few who have been horrible rude to me because of it. Vickie cut my hair using the Deva cut method and spent a substantial amount of time teaching me how to work with my hair and which products will give me the best result. I literally never thought my hair could look as great as it does right now. Vickie and her staff are amazing. They are all really sweet, knowledgeable, and great at making you feel comfortable. This is the first salon I have ever been to where I didn’t feel embarrassed about my hair. If you have spent your life going to non-curly hair salons then you definitely know what I mean by that. I absolutely recommend anyone with curly hair to Curls on Top!

I was so disappointed with my $ 150.00 haircut. Vicki butchered my hair, took over 6 inches off when I asked her to reshape my hair. A big disappointment. Will not be going back.

EXCELLENT salon to bring your curly little girls hair that you have NO idea how to tame. The staff is AMAZING — Vicki is so nice, her staff is amazing. My daughter is special needs and they take their time, never treating her any different than the rest of us. They are wonderful. :-)

I love curls on top! I drive all the way to see her from La Jolla. Yes, she is that good! Ever since I started going to Vickie I get compliments right and left. My hair was just blah before and now I actually have beautiful hair! Just see from my pic!

Four stars for the mastery of curls! Not only does Vicki navigate easily through what appears to be all curl patterns, but she also educates as she goes along. Nice added touch. I’ve got a lot(like, a whole lot) of thick, spring-coiled hair, and she got through it like it was nothing. Two stars comes for what seemed to be lack of mastery in cutting, however. Maybe it was just my hair/the day/the phase of the moon, or whatever, but man I found this haircut distressing. Cleared all of the dead ends, yay! But the layering job? First time in my life I’ve cried from a haircut lol. Guess I’ve been blessed so far. The layers were not at all fluid in appearance, but rather one can see very obviously about 3, maybe even just two layers. It’s especially disappointing for me since my hair grows very slowly, so I’m stuck unless I just wanted to go totally short. I’m attaching a pic so you can see what I’m saying– I can usually fix one side to hide it, but the other is just too far gone. In Vicki’s defense, she always welcomes you to come back for a fix if you’re unhappy, so I went back! But unfortunately, the damage was done– can’t really add hair back when it’s been cut too short so… y’know. The total experience averages out to a 3-star job. I’m thinking I’ll give Shai Amiel in studio city a try next. He shows pictures of him correcting this very error on his instagram account @shaiamiel.
