So, I’m shopping around for wedding venues — my review pertains to big events at the Onion Pub. I just visited to see the place and try the beers. Having read the Unilocal Reviews(this place is currently at 3.5 stars on Unilocal), I feel the need to comment. You may be aware — bar patrons are pretty much the worst. Half of these reviews have nothing to do with the food or drinks, but are some perceived slights committed by the wait staff, who work a tough job and are on average 19 years old. So, review time: the beer is awesome. I’m tried 3 of the 20 some choices on tap. All 3 were top notch. Have a werewolf, you’ll have a fun time! Service is awesome — event planner and bartender were both attentive and nice. I was asked like 4 times if I wanted a second beer. Cool, if I wanted more beer, I would be totally squared away: D All told, this is my top pick for the venue. Having read the reviews, i see that the cess of humanity known as the Chicago exurbs is alive and well. Bummer. This place earns a 5 star reputation, and is ranked 3.5 stars because it’s in an uncommonly jackoff plagued area.

I have never had a better Reuben! Food is overpriced though, and I wasn’t the most impressed with the beer selection.

Awesome food, beer and atmosphere! The vibe is a traditional pub with beautiful wood beams, and a stone fireplace. The patio is not to be missed!

Not bad, not great. Food was ok. Average bar food with the exception of the French onion soup. The soup was the best we have had and my fiancé orders it in every restaurant. Service left a lot to be desired. We sat at the bar as they were very busy for a Saturday night at 8pm. They had 2 bartenders and a manager behind the bar but they stayed very busy never checking on us. We had to waive them over to order and anything else. I ordered the fish and chips. It was ok but a bit oily. My fiancé ordered the ruben and it was about par, nothing special.

I’ve been here just for dinner to the restaurant and I’ve also been here in the back room for a wedding. The food is consistently delicious. It was also decorated beautifully for the wedding. I would definitely recommend it!

I was extremely disappointed. I came here previously and they had a dedicated section for gluten free. Today I asked the waiter why there wasn’t a section and if they had a separate menu and he rudely said«no most people who are gluten free know what they can’t eat.» I almost walked out at that second but we already had drinks and choose to stay and got the hummus platter and substituted tortilla chips for the pita chips. The reason we ask for dedicated gluten free menus or items is so that we know exactly what is gluten free without having to ask a million questions and feel safe eating the food. I will not be returning.

We recently went to The Onion Pub for an early dinner. We were promptly seated at a booth in the bar area where the service was horrendous. We sat for about ten minutes before a waitress came with a menu. We waited another half hour to place our order and my husband had to ask someone to get our waitress. We ordered and waited and waited for our food. We noticed that our waitress was also one of the bartenders and seemed to be too busy chatting with her bar patrons than to take care of our order. As my husband started walking towards her, she nodded and went to get our food which was, at least, still warm but certainly seemed to have been sitting under the lights. We never saw that waitress again until we had to wave her over for the check. The food was just ok and maybe our bad service tainted our opinion. The prices were reasonable. I doubt we will ever go back but if we do, I would insist we be seated in the dining room where, just maybe, we would get better service.

Wow 17 beers on tap all brewed in house! I met a couple friends here and we really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!

My daughter got married at the Onion. The Wedding venue in the back of the facility is beautiful, the food and drinks were great, the service was top-notch. It was a perfect day and the Onion did a perfect job. Top-rate !

Very pricey for pub food. I’m sure their craft beers are good but I’m not a craft beer person. Dining room is loud. Great pub style atmosphere in the bar area. If you don’t know where it is you’d never find it because it’s back in an industrial area.

We had a wonderful baby shower at The Onion today! The service, food and restaurant was fabulous! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to have an advent. We had 45 women and 10 children and everyone had a wonderful meal, even a vegan meal, with no problems. This was the easiest party I’ve ever given. Such a wonderful staff! Well organized and very accommodating! I would recommend The Onion to everyone!

Great place for family dinners, or to grab some really solid and various micro beers. Has become our families go-to midweek dinner out spot. Service is always outstanding, and they are always very good to the kids too !

We were there recently and the 3 of us shared the Brie appetizer with berries. So good. Then we all ordered the same entrée. Fish and chips. Came with a side of coleslaw. It was all very good. Best fish and chips that I have ever had. I’m a fan!

Coolest venue in the area when you’re inside, but get ready to be underwhelmed and ride your horse that likes the trots. Could be so much better. Location is kinda weird, dropped in the middle of an industrial park

I love their beer — always some good specials going on. The food is what you expect from a brew-pub and that’s my only problem with this place. The burger was really good — but I was hoping for a more diverse menu. On the other hand, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Feels like it was built a long time ago but I know it hasn’t been there that long. Worth checking out if you want really good craft beer and pub food. If that’s your gig tonight, then by all means stop in. If you’re looking for more refinement tonight then maybe a different night for the Onion.

Great craft beer! Friendly staff. Came on a recommendation and had great craft beer! A shout out to Patrick who made us feel very welcomed! Food was typical pub food. A nice place after two long days on the road!

Came here for food and drinks on a weeknight. Finding parking was almost impossible which was confusing because once we went in there was plenty of room in the restaurant. Odd. First waitress was very nice and knowledgable on the house beers but didn’t mention that they even carries non-Onion beer selection. I had the same beer all night but would have appreciated more of a selection and didn’t know that was even an option until almost walking out. We ordered the pulled pork sliders and got delivered the buffalo chicken sliders. The blu cheese sauce wasn’t my favorite– it had a very mayo taste to it. Between the two of us we didn’t finish the sliders and fries.

I went to the Onion Pub about a decade ago and wasn’t impressed. But friends told us it had really improved so we went back. Boy, they were right! The food is excellent, the beer is great, and the atmosphere is wonderful. It’s a gem right down the road. We will be back!

Nice comfortable micro brewery tucked away in an industrial park. I had their Oktoberfest which was smooth and not too heavy. Food was excellent and served quickly though it was not busy on a Wednesday night. Portion sizes off the charts, especially the nachos. Polish sausage would not fit on the bun. It was sort of cool out so I didn’t try the beer garden but it looked inviting overlooking a small lake.

I’d like this place better if you could actually get in and get a seat. Tonight I think was at least the third time I’ve gone here and been turned away because the deck and/or the main room was closed for an event. I really liked it the first time I came. But, as I said, the next three times, all or part of it was closed off. It’s tough to like a place you can never patronize. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll bother coming back.

Food was decent pub food, service was slow for a nearly empty restaurant. We visited on a beautiful day, but we were not offered the option of sitting on the patio. By the time we realized that there was a patio we had already ordered. Not sure if I’d go back, there wasn’t anything that stood out for me here. Though if you like to try different beers go here and sit at the bar.

We were here on the 4th of July and ate outside. Our meals were very good but the service was terrible. They have a nice outside eating area that overlooks a pond. It was a warm, sunny day, and everyone in our party ordered ice tea or soft drinks. Our waitress was a master of disappearing. It took a log time for her to come back and take our orders and she never noticed that our drinks were empty. People sitting around us had attentive servers and their drinks were kept fresh. We constantly had to ask for refills. When our meals arrived, we noticed we were short 2 place settings of silverware. Our waitress disappeared again and 2 of us had to sit twiddling our thumbs and watching our food get cold. After awhile, we gave up and asked a different server for the silverware, and more drinks, and ketchup, and the lemons we asked for and never got…

I’ve eaten here a few times and have always been pleased with whatever I’ve ordered. I especially love their soft pretzel platter and beer cheese soup. I don’t drink, but my two son in-laws say the beers they brew on premise are great. However, what really impressed me was their wedding and banquet service’s because my daughter had both her wedding and reception there on 5÷16÷15. The banquet staff went up and beyond to make her special day spectacular! The Great Room is a beautiful venue for a wedding ceremony and the waterfalls and lake outdoors made the perfect background for taking photo’s. Food was delicious, the servers polite and helpful and the bartenders made sure no one waited for a drink. I highly recommend any couples looking for a wedding venue to consider The Onion! You won’t be disappointed.

Took a trip up north this weekend to The Onion Pub & Brewery. There was no wait whatsoever — we sat down right away. The staff was super friendly — our waitress was as nice as could be. The beer was very good and extremely reasonably priced! My husband and I shared a beer flight of 10(yes, 10!) 5 ounce beers for just $ 13. Not bad at all! The food was alright — nothing special. $ 11 for a cobb salad that I could easily replicate at home. Ordered chicken nachos for an appetizer and they were a huge mess… They were served on a normal sized dinner plate and the toppings were layered so high that we couldn’t get to the tortilla chips that lined the bottom without a fork. We literally got food all over the table. The chicken reminded me of the kind I’d get in a salad at Panera. We sat against the wall by the window(which wasn’t and didn’t open… quite a shame since it was 75 degrees outside!) and we noticed multiple ants crawling on the wall and along the window sill. At one point my husband killed an ant that crawled across the table by our plate… Yuck. If I was in the area, I would definitely return for the beer. Don’t think I’d waste my time for the food though.

Overall a 3.5 star establishment, not bad but not outstanding. I stopped by yesterday for lunch, sitting at their patio out back to enjoy the weather while it lasts. I like the pub/brewery feel, the service was good and our waitress was nice enough to let us sample a few of their own brews before ordering. My favorite was the HopSlayer which was nice and hoppy, though the one nicknamed Big Hurt was a tad sweet for my taste. I’m not sure when it runs but they had a ½ price special going on many of their beers making my 20oz Antivenow a mere $ 2. Nice. As for the food, we went with fried pickles and poppers as well as the sausage sampler. I doubt I’d get the sausages again but the poppers were surprising because most places order the same generic ones stuffed with cream cheese while these were stuffed with cheese and a nice crunch. The Paddy Ale Melt was properly cooked to order and the fries were worth eating. The steamed mussels, however, left a lot to be desired. The juice didn’t entice me enough to finish the bread by dipping into it, and after a while I grew tired of the sausage slices. Can’t believe I just said that about sausage but it’s true. If you’re in the area I suggest checking out what Onion Pub has to offer. Besides the beer I know I’m interested in trying the fish and chips, another burger, and hopefully the jalapeño cheese brat if they keep in on the special’s list.

I LIKEONIONSAND I LIKEBEER So why wouldn’t I like this place? There is no reason to not like this place. In fact some people may even love it(Danielle S). I was recently getting my hair cut and Patty(the person who cuts my hair) told me about the Onion Pub & Brewery. She raved about the food, the beer and the atmosphere. I told her that my wife and I would be giving them a try this weekend but we just weren’t sure if we would go for lunch or dinner. She recommended that we should split the difference. Brilliant idea. This is why I go to Patty, she is my consultant and consigliore. We came in on a Saturday around 2:30pm. The place is kind off the beaten track and is located in a kind of industrial park. I guess that it makes sense because they are a brewery that happens to be a restaurant. From the moment that you walk in you can tell the atmosphere is very relaxing and laid back. The receptionist seated us at a small table in the main dining area. I noticed that they could add more tables if they wanted but I liked how it wasn’t overcrowded. We started off with our drinks where I ordered a Weiss. We then decided to order an appetizers of calamari and Patty highly recommended the cheese soup which was very good. The calamari was fantastic with pieces of fried onion and small pieces if pepper which made it really flavorful. The soup was extremely good and very filling. For our lunch I ordered a Reuben sandwich which was piled high with corned beef and it came with really good fries on the side. The Food is terrific and the beer is very, very good. I guess we found a new place close to home that we will be regulars. Thank you Patty for the recommendation of this place.
