Planet Fitness – Lake Forest Park

Clean gym, friendly employees, great price! I’ve been a member for about two months now. I usually go in the evenings and it’s never been overly crowded. Probably because the gym is pretty large and spread out. I haven’t tried any of the free personal training sessions, but it’s nice that they offer them. I might try it at some point. Can’t beat the monthly price and it’s right next to a grocery store and the cheapest gas I’ve seen around the Seattle area. Perfect to stock up on veggies when you’re done with your workout. Get your GGG on = Gym, Groceries, Gas. Win, win, win!

I love this gym. I feel at home here. Its a great place for a normal person to work out. The cost is so low why not join.
The staff here are always friendly and welcoming. No one makes you feel out of place, they actually have an alarm for people like that. Its a hidden little gym in an old strip mall so I never have trouble getting on machines. I love the 30 minute work out cycle area.
My one complaint is on that work our area. The machines are not as new or advanced as the rest of the gym and a lot of people go in there to just use one or two machines and get in the way of those doing the circuit. I wish they would enforce that the area was only for the circuit training.

Manager John Hunter at this location very arrogant and rude. Been a member since this location opened. Occasionally staff is unpleasant but it’s not a big deal. Today I closed two memberships and my fiancé will also be closing his. Customer service is not a priority. Asked for contact info for some one higher up or the franchise owner, I was given John Hunters business card. How is that helpful? He refused to give me any information above him. I will never recommend PF to anyone.

During a business trip in Seattle I literally had to drive 30 minutes away to get here. As there are no planet fitness locations within the city I believe. But this location was clean. The dumbbells went up to 75 pounds. And there were tons of cardio machines. I went on a Saturday mid afternoon and it was packed. But they were still enough machines and equipment available. Staff was cool. Bathroom and showers were OK. Was definitely worth the trek out. Members were older, but very friendly. I was the only African-​American in there. And they didn’t seem scared of me at all lol. Now that I think of it, this was one of the better planet fitness’ I’ve traveled to across the nation.

As far as gym’s go, this one has been my favorite! I was a member at Mieko’s (became Vision Quest, then LA Fitness) — and I loved it originally because it was small, the staff left you alone, and it was clean and machines worked. That fell by the wayside with future ownership.
I LOVE Planet Fitness! Love that they have a no talking on the phone rule, love that the staff is there to help and not sell you supplements, love that things are clean and fixed promptly! They also have Wifi, music in the background, and plenty of TVs.
if you are looking for a good workout with a variety of machines, free weights, and even a circuit workout station (!!!) this is the gym for you. If you’re a meat head who cuts your shirts down to gross tank tops or a gym poodle girl who wears tons of makeup and gossips about Biebs loudly? Try LA Fitness on LCW instead!

This is the best gym I have been to since leaving WSU and working out at the REC Center in Pullman. What I love about this gym is the fact that the staff has never once bugged me or tried to sell me on some sort of workout plan, training, classes or product. They are friendly, say hello have a great workout and thats that.
In addition to the laid back friendly staff I enjoy the fact that this gym has some codes/​standards with clothing and overall workout «style». What I mean with style is they don’t allow meat heads to sit in the corner and meat out pumping iron grunting and slamming weights down, none of that is allowed. In addition to this, they manage attire moderately well. Not many people are working out in their bro tanks flashing nips as they smash on their bicep workouts. There are a few here and there but nothing like any other gym I have been to.
Also, the facilities are clean, lots of options with machines and free weights and there is rarely a wait for using equipment.
Highly recommend this place if you like to workout in peace, don’t feel as though you are competing with the N|O Explode meat heads around you and want a clean gym.

Basic fitness for low $$. It’s comfortable with plenty of machines and decent facilities. Recently added a second drinking fountain and a new one with a water bottle filler. No frills but a welcoming place to work out.

Having been a longtime loyal member of a gym where over-​bicped men squat and groan while women with perfect midsections wear two-​pieced gym clothes that display their midriffs most provocatively, the Planet Fitness chain does take a little getting used to. Gone are the four-​foot high big boxes you’re supposed to jump and break your front teeth on. Gone are the humungous lengths of rope large enough for an oil tanker — ropes that you’re supposed to tie to a 100lb weight and pull across the length of the gym. There aren’t even any kettlebells. What Planet Fitness has are just lots and lots of basic cardio and weight equipment, as well as a simple selection of free weights, gym balls and weighted balls.
This gym is open 24 hours during the weekdays and more limited hours on the weekends. I’ve been during various parts of the day and clientele ranges from teenagers to middle aged and seniors. Front desk service varies.
Some reviews have mentioned that the TVs are tuned to the Food Network. I’d like to add that the gym is right next to a Great Harvest Bread, which — besides baking bread as seemingly all hours of the day, it also offers things with bacon. So your Food Network/​elliptical experience can be enhanced by smell-o-vision…which I can’t complain too harshly about, because the alternative — big B.O. — is far less attractive.

Great variety of machines, plenty of parking, very friendly staff, just about always open.

Here’s an update after going there weekly for over three years. I was going to give them two stars, but I’ll grant them three because they are a lot better than the Gold’s Gym which was here previously. The facilities and machines are good and the price is right ($ 10/​month).
I still like it and go, but there are some problems that should be addressed by staff.
Firstly, the room is kept too warm for much cardio exercise, and air circulation is poor. Most gyms allow floor fans to circulate the air, but not PF. When I ask about the temperature, I’m told that it is set by the staff members standing behind the counter who want to be comfortable. There is no allowance for the needs of the customers who are dying from the heat if they are running on a treadmill at 75 degrees room temperature. So the problem is that the staff is unresponsive.
Another problem is that they repeatedly forget about pizza night, or especially about the bagel Tuesday morning. No food is put out. We’re just told that a staff member forgot about it. This has happened at least six times in the last year. Again, the problem is with certain members of the staff who are not paying any attention. We’re no longer surprised when this happens, although quietly we wish that somebody gets fired for it.
At one time there was a cleaning man who came in and washed up the bathrooms, etc. I haven’t seen him for years and the cleanliness of the locker room and showers leaves a lot to be desired.

Any gym with a 4-​star rating on Unilocal should get kudos. $ 10 base membership. $ 20/​mo premium membership includes unlimited tanning (standing OR laying) and massage beds/​chairs. They have some «classes» (but not like a Zumba or yoga room, more like «30mins of leg machines» and you can bring a guest as much as you want (with the premium membership). Great bang for your buck!
Nice new branded machines. Large space so you never have to wait for the cardio machines. Weights corner and open floor space for stretching or sit ups with cushion mats. Staff is friendly, though I don’t know if I would trust all of them to give me personal training advice, some are in high school and others are older (sans six pack). But that isn’t a deal breaker for me at $ 20/​mo.
No money down, 12 month membership commitment required. $ 58 to break the contract early. Easy parking in the Lake Forest Park Towncentre.
Maybe I’m holding back a star because some of their TVs are always on the Food Network! I don’t want to watch someone make mac & cheese while I am trying to burn calories at the gym. But this is the second time I’ve renewed my membership here over the years and no complaints so far.

Good gym. I like the cleanliness, comfortable temperature (slightly cool), uncrowded equipment layout, plentiful treadmills/​ellipticals/​bikes, lockers (no charge/​use your own lock), and overall a good selection of machines and free weights for most people who aren’t into serious competition. The monthly price ($ 10 or $ 20) is great!
I also like the low-​key, but friendly, staff at the front desk – especially Terry, the very hospitable morning person who actually learns your name and memorizes your membership number. You can just walk in, wave to him and go work out. Nobody pushes you to spend more money. There is the annual $ 31 membership fee which they’re totally upfront about when you join – which another reviewer erroneously described as misleading.
The thing I DON’T like is the imposition of the «house» music. By far (maybe 80%, the previous manager told me), most people listen – or want to listen – to their own music, on their own devices. There’s a good mix of people from their 20s through 70s+, and the current pop music on the sound system cannot fit everyone’s taste, obviously. This isn’t a problem if they keep the volume subdued – as Terry does in the early morning – but, depending on what staff people are working, the volume can get totally ridiculous. Which makes it maddening to try to listen to one’s own music. To their credit, they usually have the speakers in the abs room turned off.
They don’t have classes for Zumba and Yoga, etc… but if you basically want a good, well-​equipped gym, and some instruction when you need it, this is the best deal in town.

I like this gym for its cleanliness and its amount of space. I’ve never had to wait for a machine I wanted to use and when I’m there its never overly crowded. I’m happy with my choice so far.
My only complaint is that they don’t have my favorite machine, the rowing machine. Sigh.

Wow it’s definitely gone downhill since I first started working out here… However only during later hours. The staff during the late shift are pretty unprofessional and the music is so loud you can barely hear your own music.
It’s still a decent place to get your workout in as long as you don’t need anything from the staff. Remember to read the fine print when you sign up. It’s true, you do get what you pay for.

I’ve been a member here for about a year now. I’ve tried other gyms in the Mountlake Terrace and surrounding areas. Most of them were small, crowed and run down (even some broken) equipment. Plus they had contracts and joining fees yada yada yada…
The basic membership here is $ 10 with no contract. In September I switched to the black card membership which is $ 30. Pretty much just for the Red light therapy and the viber shape program it does in the machine. I’ve lost 40+ pounds this year with diet and exercise (worked my butt off). The viber shape (sp?) program in the red light tightens and tones your skin, increases blood circulation and etc.
The gym itself is great! Always clean, lots of machines. In peak time I still have an elliptical or two to choose from. The weight machines are spaced out. Also they have cleaning stations everywhere so you can easily clean up after your done using something. Plus I’ve met some really nice people while working out.

Gym is clean, staff are friendly, and the cost is a pretty good deal. You choose from either a basic membership ($ 10/​month) or the PF Black Card ($ 19.99/mo). With the premium membership you get free tanning and there is also Red Light Therapy (looks like a tanning tube but it’s infrared lights). You also get unlimited guest privileges (nice perk!), massage chairs, unlimited fitness training.
The gym is pretty cold and the temp fluctuates as more people come into the gym, so I recommend bringing something warm to wear until you’ve warmed up.
According to the staff, most people who join are first time gym members and they cater to the non– bodybuilder clientele.
The equipment is pretty new & they have most of the same stuff my other gyms have. Locker rooms are really nice. They even having changing rooms, which you rarely see at any gym. The lockers are see– through which I don’t like and you bring your own lock so you don’t have to pay.
Overall this is a really nice gym!

Alright so I love this gym for the price. What you pay for is what you get. But, there are no rowing machines, kettlebells, medicine balls, squat rack or free Olympic bars. Seriously?! The smith machine is killing me and the pre weighted bars only go up to 60. As a girl this is all ok, but as a guy I would find it really frustrating to get a decent free weight workout in. STILL I signed up for a year for $ 99, so for less than $ 10 a month it’s still worth it. Another perk is the lack of creepy men just trying to mack, it’s actually 75% middle aged hah

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!!
First of all, like many others below have stated. They claim that there are no fees aside from your monthly $ 10 membership fee. Every year they charge you an additional $ 30 without letting you know.
Even more disappointing than this is the HORRIBLE management.
In August I contacted Planet Fitness to let them know that I had moved and wanted to cancel my account. The employee I spoke with informed me to simply send a letter in notifying the club. I followed those exact instructions and yet come October, I was charged the $ 30 fee. Confused, I called the club to ask about my cancelation and see what could be done about refunding me the money I had been charged, I spoke with the general manager, who is horrid. She first told me I needed to pay the post office to send it through First Class mail (which the original employee I spoke with failed to mention.) Then she told me the post office must have lost it and that there was nothing she can do. She then hung up on me.
Upset, I called the corporate office and was told to email the owner of the club, which I did. It has been 2 weeks and I have yet to receive a response and my membership is still not canceled.
Do yourself a favor and pay a bit more to join Vision Quest, right up the street, on Lake City Way. I used to belong there and was treated one million times better. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to assist you. The general manager of this club has no clue how to work with people. Save yourself the trouble.

I did not like this place at first. I signed up with them via their website and used a credit card and they hassled me every visit to change that to pay my monthly bill with a checking account. So I eventually did that and now there is no hassle at all. The perks are really why I stuck it out.
1. No waiting for machines or weights. I go at random times and have not yet had a problem. There are plenty of showers as well. I sometimes have to wait at the YMCA for one.
2. I thought at first that 10 bucks a month would be for no showers, but I was happily mistaken. No sauna or hot tub however like 24 Hour Fitness has. But we have a hot tub at home, so no loss there. The bathrooms have hair dryers on the men’s side as well. My hair is too long to dry fast.
3. No kids. I have never seen any kids there. I guess they are all at the YMCA.
4. First Monday of the month is free pizza. 4:30pm is the first order of pizza and 6pm is the second wave. They also have a free bagel morning, but I have not gone to that yet.
5. Nice staff. They seem to know the answers to all my questions.
6. Quiet place. At least when I am there, no one interrupts my focus.
7. They have a tv waiting room, so sometimes I have a cool down there. Not many channels though…8 channels maybe? The staff will change the channel if you ask.
8. They have an ab twist machine that I really like.
9. You bring your own lock for the locker room. I like this better than the YMCA where you have to pay for it each time.
10. The gym is located next to tons of other stores, banks, and a library. So that increases my use of the gym. *smile

This is a pretty nice place nestled in the plaza of Lake Forest Park well known for Third Place Books.
This place seems well kept as it’s always clean and tidy when I come in. The folks at the front counter greet you when you come in and when you leave. They have a good number of treadmills and ellipticals available and I’ve never seen anyone have to wait to use one. I personally have not tried them as I don’t come here for cardio work. I did notice though that they have 8 TVs in front of both sides of the room which you can watch while you’re on these machines. You plug in your headphones and tune to the TV number and can listen to the programming playing. I do find it entertaining that the food channel is always played in front of people while they are working out.
When I’m here, I like to use their free-​weights. I primarily use their curl bars and dumbbells while on a ball. They have 5 – 6 balls for use by gym members. While it’s nice they have a machine you can bench and incline press, squat, and dead-​lift on it’s not my favorite. You can only work on one range of movement because the weight stays on a track. This is the reason I don’t use the machines here but I do make use of substituting the exercises on a ball which simultaneously works on my core, satisfying my needs of a compound workout.
I rarely have to wait for weights or space to workout. There’s always a good number of people at the gym without being crowded. A lot of regulars here. Overall it’s a great gym for the price. 10 a month per person or 20 a month if you’d like unlimited guest privileges. The 20/​month package comes with a free T-​Shirt and gives your access to their tanning beds and massage chairs although I cannot comment as I have not used those.
