We got the black point boating tour package which includes tour around the lake and will stop by this beautiful house. The tour guide will give you education about the history of the house and also building structures and materials. We’re only allowed to go up to the 2nd floor(the 3rd floor was closed) due to WI state law. Furniture inside the house are more than 100 years old, everything is kept in a good antique condition. If you go plan, wear comfortable shoes because there are a 100 steps long cliff you need to climb up. If you wear shorts you might want to wear some bug/mosquito repellent because of the shrubs. Very interesting and you should definitely visit !

Fun boat ride out to the estate. I think the site’s tour guide must have been«new on the job», but luckily, Jill, a seasoned pro, tagged along behind her and filled in with fun stories and facts. I agree with a previous reviewer who said the tour could be a bit shorter — but it is expensive to go and I guess they want you to think you got your money’s worth! One tip: it’s not very apparent on the website, but there is a way to access the home via the mainland and not by boat.

We took the boat ride/tour of Black Point Historic Preserve. Loved the boat tour. Loved seeing the Black Point Historic House… however, the tour went on and on and on. We started out for about an 45 minutes on the front porch with and elderly guide. She talked about everything under the sun. This gal obviously loved this house and the history of the area but she needs to cut her talk way down. She lost her audience early in the tour. My husband and I had lost interest before we ever set foot in the house. It was also a little bit chilly that day so I can honestly say that the whole tour group was a little bit numb by the time we finally got done walking the perimeter of the house. The house is lovely but the tour could really be 1⁄3 of the length that it was. By the end of the tour, most of us were bored to tears. The boat ride back was probably the best part… two brothers were running a smaller boat than the one that drove us out to the house. They were very funny and knowledgeable.

I need to split the stars on this review — let me tell you why. We took the boat tour to the Black Point estate tour. The boat tour was very nice — beautiful day, uncrowded boat, and good visuals and juicy stories by the Captain about the owners of the«summer cottages» we were passing. Many movers and shakers, past and present, of Chicago have little 16 room cottages and grounds along the lake shore. 4 stars for the boat tour. We got to Black Point estate — a huge and beautifully situated Victorian monstrosity with beautiful lake views. The gardens are lovely! 4 stars! Here is where the stars go down to maybe 1 star — we had, by far, the worst interpretive guide on our tour that we have ever endured. After a while, we peeled out of the tour so we would not have to listen to him anymore. Too bad, the house looked interesting!
