2 stars because I had a great time with my fiancé and future in laws, but overall, totally an underwhelming 1 star experience in the Mediterranean Flavors class specifically. My fiancé and I love to cook and entertain. For Christmas, we decided to forego gifts and that the 6 of us(his two brothers and their wives) would do something fun together. Initial observations: The kitchen was clean, the staff is miserable. Our chef, Chef Steve, seemed unorganized right from the start. He wasn’t sure what ingredients he needed, or why our cake seemed so wet, or why there wasn’t dill for the tzatziki sauce we were making. He seemed like it was his first day. I was bored for a while because, frankly, we didn’t get to do much except some minor chopping and stirring. Chef Steve’s assistants baked our cake for us, made the dough for our flatbread and baked it and only 2 people from class got to actually cook the chicken that was pre-marinated from before class started. If you are someone who has no idea what they are doing when they cook, you might have liked this… it felt like a beginners approach to stepping into the kitchen. It wasn’t a class for someone who cooks everyday and isn’t scared of the stove. It was not worth even close to what we paid. I think we would do another class again, but not at that location and not with that chef.

Loved the instructors. The food was excellent. The kitchen is beautiful. Great set up. You get to shop after the class. They have espresso and cappuccino, we have a light snack of cheese and apricot preserve. All the kitchen gear used in the class, you can purchase at the store and you get a 10% coupon. The coupon can be used on your next class. I didn’t pay full price. I sign up for their email and got 50% off class.

Have taken a knife cutting skills class and 2 cooking classes(Thai and Mexican) and they were both great! The instructors are always pleasant and helpful and the pace of the classes are just right. If you are looking to learn something new, I would highly recommend their classes. When you leave they give you a packet with the recipes of the dishes you just made so you can easily recreate at home. A must try!!!

I was pretty underwhelmed at the $ 75 Per Person Sushi class tonight. It was just the fact that it felt to me disorganized and a bit thrown together(much like the rolls I massacred.) One thing they could of done was at least give us our own utensils and ingredients, instead of sharing. I’m not a germaphobe but shit man, don’t knock me for wanting to go Free Bird with my own ingredients. It may be my first cooking class but the price of $ 75 should leave me with more than a sour thought and sticky hands like the kid who got into the Elmer’s Glue cabinet in school. I really don’t like writing bad reviews, trust me. I’d rather stay silent and move on with a frown but I feel as though I should let Sur La Table know that with this specific class, you need more Sugoi(Japanese for Wow). The staff were kick-ass though. Just stop trying to psuedo-sell me your product by offering me to hold a «specific» knife(that ends up costing $ 400). I grew up on Long Island, the home of the New Yawker. Our noses smell bullshit a mile away.

Gnocchi cooking class! Took a cooking class here with a friend on a recent Saturday evening. The class started at 6:30 and ended at 8:30 — allowing 30 minutes to shop in the store with your 10% off coupon you get at the end of the class(its good for a week). We went with the Gnocchi 101 class — it was $ 69 and was terrific. Very informative, hands on, great teacher(Chef Jen) — and you leave with a full tummy of the 4 different versions of gnocchi and sauces you make with your partner. They give you a print out of all of the recipes as well. You are put into groups of 4 to do the prep/cooking so it would be great for a double date or a group of 4 friends. We were paired with a nice couple so it was good — but you could’ve gotten the annoying lady who kept asking questions like — how long does the water take to boil? How do you roast potatoes? Can we make this in the microwave? — I think she needs to take a COOKING101 class before a GNOCCHI101 class. Anyway — an enjoyable fun experience that I highly recommend if you like to cook and learn something new.
