Luna was 4 star but has closed at the golf course. Is supposed to reopen in April at the Valley Market.

This lovely Italian place is located right next door to the timeshare that we stayed at. It is attached to the Apple Valley Golf Club House and has a magnificent view of the golf course below. Although, I overheard the owner saying that he was going to be moving soon. So, don’t go looking for this magnificent view for too much longer. The interior of the restaurant has two different personalities. The bar area looks like an Italian tiki bar while the dining room area literally looks like you are in someone’s dining room. With the view of the golf course, this really is something to see. I order Johnny’s Killer Pasta, which promised to be an amazing secret meat sauce recipe. It doesn’t say anything about coming with cheese, but there is some shredded parm that comes on top of it. So, if you are lactose intolerant, consider yourself warned. Overall, the sauce doesn’t live up to its name. The portion size was about right, but the sauce itself was a bit light on meat and flavor. I’ve had worse, and I’ve had better. My wife ordered her old standby: chicken parm. She liked the chicken, but was disappointed that there wasn’t very much sauce on the pasta that came with it. She also said that she’s had worse and had better. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate cake. It arrived with a nice drizzle of chocolate sauce on it, but it looked like the cake got butchered when it was cut. Someone in the kitchen flunks Cake Cutting 101. The cake was good, and the portion was enough for us to share. The service was great. Our waitress was a hustler the whole night. In spite of being responsibility for all of the tables on our side of the dining room, she was very attentive to us throughout our meal. Overall, we had an ok experience. For convenience, I would probably go back, but this isn’t a must eat at place by any means.

Luna del Sol. My rudimentary Spanish/Italian tells me this means moon of the sun??? Ok, I’ll stop there. Went there with my family(28 people at least) while attending a family reunion in Lake Lure. We had arranged for us to have several tables reserved, and were not disappointed. The owner and his wife, and the wait staff were, for the most part really attentive. The food was good, nobody complained anyway, and the atmosphere was very nice as well. Love the Fred Flintstone tables right near the entrance. Reasonable prices for a country club setting. One caveat — I had the half-rack of ribs with fries and corn on the cob. The corn was way overcooked, and stuck like glue to my teeth — it was pretty much un-palatable. That’s about the only thing I could complain about. I recommend.

We ate here a couple years ago and had a great meal but were a bit disappointed this time. The blackened chicken pasta lacked seasoning and they forgot the sun dried tomatoes. They brought some in the side and apologized, which was very nice, but I think that was one of the missing flavor a I remembered from last time. The monday night buffet was ok. The prime rib wasnt great. The chicken parm was the highlight by far and they included a pretty good salad bar. I was surprised by the berry cobbler others have mentioned — it was definitely made from those bags of frozen berries with just a simple flour and butter crust. Overall, not a bad place. It’s odd in a charming way so an interesting spot for dinner while on vacation. I would suggest sticking to the Italian options, as those seem to have more homemade ingredients. They do have a pretty cute bar attached too, so that’s a fun plus.
